love that meme

maybe opinion-based as we don't have lot of information about the battle, but how could Qohor lose in the first day against Khal Temmo?
i mean, dothraki have no siege weapon. Qohor have walls. Couldn't they just wait inside, showering them with arrows and wait for the unsullied?

12:11 PM
They met them in the field didn't they?

yes, but why?
i mean, it's a really bad move, as you loose your main strength. And you can survive long time behind walls, at least enough to wait unsullied

Because they did, it was the first time the Dothraki had crossed the Sea, how would you know of their prowess

well, they crush several kingdoms and city on their way
and even if you don't know the ennemy, you want to fight him with all ods with you

They sack towns and cities
How would you know the odds aren't with you?

JAD
yadda yadda yadda realism in fantasy

12:15 PM
You're making quite a few assumptions based on the evidence you have from years in the future

JAD
maybe qohor didn't have a moat between their walls, so they preferrred to meet them in an open field

@JAD Shh you don't get to make that argument. Mr Roofs of winterfell aren't believable but giant dragon towers are

well, giant dragon towers can be explained by magic and rule of cool
the thing is, why would a commander take the risk to fight outside, while it's much safer to fight inside?

If one thing in the universe can be explained by "Magic and Rule of Cool" then most things can be.

JAD
@Kepotx because it is not cool to fight inside

12:18 PM
Cuz he's cocky, thought he would smash them, didn't want to waste time, just wanted what he thought would be a swift in

@Edlothiad maybe. after all, the khal did the same the next day

JAD
also, while you sit behind your gates, them dothraki will just rape and pillage the entire countryside
I can imagine the qohorik to be pretty keen on stopping that

still, i find the siege weapons are underrated
same in the tv-show were they take casterly rock and high garden with no siege engines
only ladders in casterly rock, and i don't even remember if they had siege engine for highgarden

12:54 PM
I'm pretty sure the events at Casterly Rock are, Grey Worm and his merry men snuck in and then opened the gates and the ladders was only tyrion showing what could happen
As for Highgarden I'm not sure if anything was shown in the Lannister troops but the actual battle wasn't shown

JAD
bottom line, sieges are boring

Yeah we don't want too watch weeks of a seige
Though we did see one at Riverrun
I think

JAD
yep
we saw it getting broken, that is

yeah, no way you could make a good story with siege cough Iliad cough
but I see what you mean, it's even more true with a time-limited show

A siege is fine but there was no time for one in S7 and the show had no interest in showing one

JAD
12:58 PM
hmm, I was mostly talking about show perspective for CR and highgarden

For all we know both occasions could have involved sieges they just weren't shown

maybe. and the fact that we never see them carrying or building siege don't mean that there a no siege weapons, but still odd to me
even if i think that two dragons are pretty good siege weapons

JAD
given the timeframe it seems unlikely that a full-blown siege happened

Very good ones but not used haha

JAD
especially at CR which was meant to be a surprise attack

1:01 PM
Well I'm still not 100% on what we was shown of CR is actually what happened

JAD
well it might be as you say, but that'd be the first time they do it like that

There was a Q on here about it but I can't be bothered to find it

I also see that like "not the actual battle but how tyrion describe it"
one of the good things from this season

Yeah it wasn't totally clear though and not edited terribly well

it kinda reminds me age of empire II intro scene, were kings are playing chess

JAD
1:05 PM
oooooh I member

and each time they move a piece, we see real warfare

JAD
never played AoE much, but I do remember seeing the intro

gosh, i spent too many hours in that game
and still spending today with HD version

Hello @Buffy what brings you here?

@TheLethalCarrot Just exploring a bit. I had a positive experience on the site with a recent question. I was looking for a general SF chat, though.

well, it's not only ASOIAF/GOT related topic here

Not this room, I guess.

in off season we talk about whatever we want

I was also wondering whether author Terry Dowling got much play here.
The Tom Rynosseros books (spelling?)
Australian. Very interesting stuff.
It turns out as search suggests he is not well known to members here.

1:40 PM
He might be well known, but not get many questions.

@Buffy Fair enough, the main chatroom is The Restaurant at the End of the Universe but we're pretty active and although we're mainly for ASOIAF/the TV show thingy we talk about all sorts, especially in the off season

Asimov is well known but gets very few questions
Nevermind he has 156, more than I thought

156 total? :P

@Edlothiad Hmmm. People may think they understand Asimov, or realize they don't.

HG Wells is a better example
Whether or not they understand Asimov, they can know of him.

1:42 PM
I met Asimov once, though. I even challenged him. His wife backed me up. Odd experience.

1:54 PM
only 60 question with lovecraft, though it would be more

32 for Gene Wolfe. One of my favorites.

This meme temp is great

Haha is pretty good

3:55 PM
Do we want a feed for ASOIAF/GOT on Lit?

4:14 PM
does Lit get many of those?

4:31 PM
No idea haha

JAD
4:43 PM
btw, the drooling 4yo son of Lord Frey in the Mystery Knight, is he the Walder Frey?
timing seems to fit
> The bride's father followed close behind her, hand in hand with his young son. Lord Frey of the Crossing was a lean man elegant in blue and grey, his heir a chinless boy of four whose nose was dripping snot.

General discussion for scifi.stackexchange.com, both on-topic ...
@amflare not really. Don't get a lot of questions period on Lit :P
There are 8 questions tagged on Literature.SE.

I don't think a feed would be worth it then
