1:50 AM
If you haven't already seen, I opened a new chat room for the WWDC keynote event tommorrow morning. I also added an event for the keynote, so register yourself! You can register here

11 hours later…
12:23 PM
Nathan Greenstein on June 11, 2012

This is the twenty-seventh episode of the Ask Different Podcast. Your hosts this week are Kyle Cronin, Jason Salaz, Nathan Greenstein.

We’re back already from our summer hiatus! Our topic this week is CSS development on the Mac.

The software one spends the most time in when working with CSS is, of course, a text editor. Nathan is a fan of Chocolat, which is lightweight but full featured. Kyle likes TextMate for its powerful CSS bundle features. Jason loves Vim for its many powerful shortcuts and built-in editing tools. …

12:35 PM
Who remembers this saying? :D
WWDC 2012. Samsung, start your photocopiers.

1:04 PM
Samsung copy stuff way more than MS ever did, it's tragically comic.

1:14 PM
Hi @phwd

Hey
Is there a stream that will be on for WWDC today?

I've seen a couple links, there is a WWDC chat room on the site rooms, not sure how busy it will be tho
Sorry, to clarify, I've see a load of link to people liveblogging etc (live.appleinsider.com/Event/…) but no actually live streaming of the actual keynote.
Which is odd, you would think that would be a given these days

Cool, I'll wait around an see what happens

The store is down :)

Hmmm

1:21 PM

 WWDC 2012

some conference in california or something
See this room for a selection of liveblog links

@stuffe What will do tonight? Go out and watch the game or follow WWDJ blogs?

Watch the game obv.
which OKC will \o/

Tonight I will watch the footy, then watch the keynote podcast in it's entirely when it's all finished

I'll sit in front of the TV with the MBP on my lap :)

Although I am not even wholly sure who we are playing, I have not been very interested in the competition thus far. Maybe I will be a weekend fan if they actually play well, but with the team we have, I think that's unlikely. Full of old men and boys.

1:24 PM
You're fighting the french! It's the FRENCH!

Oh, yeah, that will be fun then, they are the form team, we have just a bunch of randoms and a new manager with only 2 games under his belt, and our "best" player suspended!
And for @phwd's information and anyone else the wrong side of the pond, we are both in Europe and talking about the European Football Championships ;)

Germany's next game is against the Netherlands. That's a "classico".

Yeah, they are going out then :)
Personally, I love to see us play Germany and Argentina - those are the big ones.

Yeah, world cup games are the most fun ones!

Good morning campers.

1:29 PM
France can be fun, but it's often a horrible dirty game, worse if it's Rugby tho! Those games are brutal.

Good afternoon, sir.

Good morning, and for interest the 50mph wind brought an early end to my camping, shortly before blowing down a Marquee that had had 1000 sheep evacuated at a farming show down the road...

I wish there were other games popular in Germany. Here is only soccer - which I don't even play myself...

You had me at sheep. British comedy at its finest.
My I'm out of practice. I had to dig deep for the Markdown syntax to italicize.

I spent a week in a tent getting cold and wet with no internets. It was great.

1:36 PM
"a slightly more permanent structure"

A few more guy ropes should fix it.
I gave in when every peg on on the broadside of the tent pulled not out but through the ground as it got sufficiently saturated to have lost it's strength.

Our dome structure at Burning Man has survived much worse. Granted it isnt open on the sides–which would allow wind to get underneath and generate lift.
I've been using USMIL surplus tent stakes with great success–but when the earth loses solidity, your options are limited.

I would have stayed if I didn't have a 1 year old to think of.

Was just gonna ask–was it a family trip or a boys getaway. I trust your decision was the correct one. Survival camping lacks the tranquility of holiday.

Family trip, meet up with owners of similarly aged kids - everyone else bottled out in the previous days, we stuck it out until the last night, and then performed an emergency exit at about 7pm on the last night!

1:44 PM
@gentmatt – you're an avid bicyclist, yes? Or am I misremembering?

And then I got in trouble from the police yesterday for pitching my tent somewhere I should't have (child's playground - hey...) so I could attempt to dry it

LOL. I had the rafters of the carriage house in Boston rigged for tent drying. Plus the Victorian porch.

@stuffe HA! "evacuating a thousand sheep" - that phrase deserves a metaphor!

I got the ire of the local mothers mafia for blocking access to the play equipment (I hadn't), who threatened to call the police (I suggested they were welcome), who arrived mere seconds after I had taken it down and was placing it back in the car :)

It was scuppering them that concerned me. ;)

1:48 PM
Much humour ensued :)

Nice to know Brit soccer moms exhibit the same signs of entitlement as their yank sisters.

And the best thing was that the kids who were actually in the park, not just complaining over the fence like the moms, all knew me and cared not a job, in fact were having fun throwing shoes over the top of it from the swings. Go figure :)

I guess you'll need to befriend someone with a pole barn for future tent drying. Or give up the canvas and get a caravan.
or make a donation to the local equivalent of the PBA.

PBA?
We were going to take it to a large supermarket with a covered car park, but that would have meant waiting until they closed, and would have had it out of the sun so it would have taken longer.

Police (or Patrolman's) Benevolent Association. Legalized bribes. You get a card proving you made a contribution.

1:59 PM
Patrolmen's Benevolent Association or Policemen's Benevolent Association (PBA) is the name of several labor unions representing police officers. One such union is the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association of the City of New York, which is the largest union representing members of the New York City Police Department. [http://www.nypost.com/seven/06022007/news/regionalnews/pba_sues_to_boot_9_11_air_victim_regionalnews_david_seifman.htm] This is not true in all states, however. And a sticker for the drivers side window of the Lotus. ;)

Also, Caravan? Have you no soul?
@jaberg Just got her back from the workshop, had all the dirty bits properly cleaned while the wheels and floor were off - it's got a shiny engine now - for about 10 miles I imagine

that one?

Yup
That's my Rover on the tow dolly too.

2:07 PM
Ha, fun times :)

It was. Now more of a memory of Michelle. Kind of rips the scabs off. So it goes I guess.

Yeah, that wouldn't have actually fitted on most of the roads where I went - would love to own something like that - I saw one once in Mammoth that towed a tiny Smart car on the back - will do a big old Yank trip with similar one day

I'd like to get rid of that rig and get something based on a Sprinter chassis–or maybe a Sportmobile 4WD.
Don't need the full-size bathroom or all of the closet space anymore. My life is simplified.

Yeah, we (just) fitted all our stuff in the "Station Wagon" with a roof box.

Michelle and I did do a few events in a Hannibel "safari" tent bolted to the roof rack of the Discovery. Small tent (would suck to be stuck in it) but easy up and down and perfect for sleeping. Wish they weren't so $$$. (Ours was borrowed).

2:15 PM
@jaberg Sweet Jesus - That's a monster!

Only in America ;)
I rented a huge (I thought, to me) thing once with a massive 3 litre engine (3 is massive to us brits where 1.3 is the norm), and I remember parking it, and to the left through the window the "5.7L" decal of some huge ford thing was at eye level.

That's what she… oh, you meant the RoVerhauler. ;)

Made me feel all insignificant.

Through nobody's fault but my own this conversation is taking me to some dark places. I'm going to jump on the bike and pedal through it. Catch up with you guys soon.

Laters

2:26 PM
@jaberg That's correct. I ride the MBP mostly, but I also use a "racing bike" or whatever it's called in English :)
laters.

2:52 PM
Also - what's up with all the app bundles lately? Seems we need an app bundle tracker and a keynote tracker for this week's news.

Yeah, I delayed doing any screencasts for the blog because quicktime wash;t really up to it, and my choice of s/w screen flow was 99 greenbacks, so I was very pleased.
Also an up to date copy of parallels is always useful for emergencies I suppose.
And always good to share the love and give away the ones you don't need :)
Oh, and by the way, anyone ordered a Pi? Mines on the way, should be a couple of weeks more.

Yo.
I'm in front of the line!

@Moshe Good luck keeping your network access! Enjoy your week

@bmike Thanks!

Did SE ever send you any cards?

3:01 PM
Nope.
But I'm wearing my SE shirt.

Aah - that's totally cool.

Vote for me for mod on StackOverflow.

@Moshe Brad Larson has my vote. I haven't decided on 2 or 3 (for the ranked choice if my vote ends up not counting or being needed to elect brad)- but I did see you put your hat in the ring. Kudos for that.

@bmike Did recently.

I think I found a bug on the elections page
The total SE reputation score indicated in the candidacy profiles is more than double the actual value.

3:14 PM
Would some kind soul double check my time zone math on the community bulletin board?

Seems good

@stuffe You could post it on the main meta or you could go get some beer and a snack and assume it'll be fixed soon enough :-)
@stuffe Thank you.

Well, it's been wrong since the AD elections, so...
I think @moshe should bring it up, get him some more exposure ;)

Wow! Check this intersting stat: "22.4% of Chinese Internet users use IE 6." ie6countdown.com

3:29 PM
The maths seems a little suspect - 100% using i.e 6, which was 5.2% less than last year? So last year 105.2% of the world was on IE6?

I think that means: This is the break down of all (=100%) IE 6 users which are 5.2% less in total than last year.

I think something's up with the screenshot. If you actually go to the page, the percentage ticks down to 6.3% in about a second.
Maybe the screenshot got grabbed before it had time to count down?
I don't think IE 6 has ever had 100% adoption...

Sitting in the front of the line...

is the line moving, or you been there all night?
@NathanGreenstein Yeah, the calendar portions of the ss are blank also

@NathanGreenstein Mmmh. I only see 100% all the time.

3:38 PM
@gentmatt What browser?

Chrome!

@gentmatt Weird. Working for me in Chrome 21...

@NathanGreenstein Ok, in Firefox 13 I get what you've seen.

@gentmatt Terrible browser, perhaps you should try I.E. 6? ;)

4:12 PM
Hello all
I won't be as active during the event as I have been in the past, I'm at work and typing on my ipad
But I'm here

I went to sleep at a house 30 mins away. I befriended the guy at the front of the line.
So I'm in front.

4:31 PM
Nice
By the way, feel free to liveblog
Probably use the WWDC room though

4:58 PM
Link?

 WWDC 2012

some conference in california or something

3 hours later…
7:48 PM
Those gills on the side of the MacBook Pro make me want to call it sharkey..

8:10 PM
is anybody here?

at least 7
including yourself

ok
so I cannot connect to the internet
at our dormitory
In Linux and Windows it works
but in Mac it doesn't
I don't know where the problem is
since I have never used Mac before
is there any firewall in Mac?
something like Windows Firewall in Windows?

there is, off by default and for incoming connections only.
System Preferences > Security
do you know the symptoms of the inability to connect to the internet?
DHCP issue? DNS issue? etc.?

8:59 PM
iOS 6 beta 1, coming to an iPad near you. Well, near me anyway.

9:26 PM
Looks like the Mac Pro did get that refresh it has been needing, though it wasn't a big change

1 hour later…
10:39 PM
I missed out on the WWDC brouhaha. Is there a summary somewhere yet?

11:11 PM
@Brant tuaw... the verge... gdgt... engadget... maybe pandodaily...

11:32 PM
@Moshe NDA

@bmike He said nothing about the contents therein :P.
I think I should upgrade my iPad as well.
I can't in good conscious upgrade my iPhone currently. But my iPad? TALLY HO!
