@AbbyT.Miller as a single window to content with which you're extremely familiar, it's acceptable.

@bmike @AbbyT.Miller I can agree without hesitation that most aspects of Yosemite are beautiful but for me, the design aspects that cause problems are extremely concerning. If those designs are to be forced upon all users, then I'll never prefer Yosemite … and ultimately that would be the end of OS X as my OS of choice.

@AbbyT.Miller apologies for the curtness of my first response to you. It wasn't personal :-)
Towards an understanding of why I treat the current design of Safari 8 as seriously broken – critically bugged – there's this in UX Stack Exchange (with a first answer from me):

Q: What encouraged the designers of GNOME Web 3.11.90 to show both (a) the page title and (b) the address/location/URL in the header bar?

Graham PerrinPoints of reference, please, for documents and/or discussions that supported the design rationale. I'll add one answer, I don't know whether it's ideal. @GrahamPerrin no worries! i think it's a bit of an acquired taste.

@GrahamPerrin I have a machine running Panther, a machine running Lion, and a machine running Mountain Lion currently. Just because you don't like the "features" in a newer release doesn't mean you're stuck using it.
FWIW, I tried Mavericks and found it broke too much software in my workflow (granted, some of these are ancient applications), so I used my Time Machine backup to go back to the state of my computer before installing Mavericks.
I find iMovie HD so much more usable than whatever the one with the star-shaped icon is called, and I can get iMovie HD to run well under ML but not anything since.

First: for at least a few days I'll be mostly on Mavericks. Whilst it's almost certain that the SSHD in my MacBookPro5,2 is (as suggested by S.M.A.R.T.) failing, I'm cautiously dragging things out as long as possible to see how it behaves with some of the features of HDAT2 and with fsck_hfs -S
That topic began as a point of reference but as time passes (there's more to add to the topic, dunno when I'll find time) some questions have arisen. If/when there's a reasonable amount of data, I'll probably ask in Ask Different.
