12:12 AM
@KyleCronin That is a ridiculously convincing photoshop XD.
@Nathan It was in a state where I had little access to anything. Frankly, I'm happy with how it turned out.
@Nathan Told you it'd be there on Friday.

that you did.

I meant to reply to Kyle
@KyleCronin Told you it'd be there on Friday.

@Nathan you didn't say when on Friday though

@bmike That much I didn't remember. I always get to my RSS after the fact. So time of day means little to me.
(bmike, re ^, we're making fun of the fact that I hit reply on the wrong post.)

@VxJasonxV one thing I noticed when I had already finished was that I capitalized "randomly", whereas the rest of the options only had a capital for the first word
but I'm glad it came out well

12:19 AM
it did. good work
Ryan approves too. And she's a Graphic Designer!

FWIW, I have Acorn to thank for making it easy
just over 500 visits from daring fireball.net so far
and that space is not me being clever, it was inserted by Lion's autocorrect

suuuuure

@VxJasonxV can I get a screenshot of the close as off topic box on AD?

sure

thanks
I'm going to start a meta post about our default migration paths

12:35 AM
yay

Q: Which sites should be in our primary migration paths?

Kyle CroninWhen you select "off topic" as a reason to close a post on most of the other established Stack Exchange sites, you're presented with a menu similar to this: As you can see, there are a few pre-selected sites that you can vote for a question to be migrated to instead of simply closing the quest...

I admit, I've never understood why there is a finite list

me neither

It should have the same site chooser in place elsewhere.
a text box where you type a name or subject or url or whatever.

I understand why they'd want to have a few suggestions - there are some sites with similar and overlapping subjects

1:33 AM
Almost 1000 clicks from DF!

yaaay!

the stats in the mod page are a bit delayed

And sloooow to load sometimes.

I really wish we could see the actual inbound links, not just the domains

1:39 AM
Yeah. GA does that...

I'm sure there's a [feature-request] about it somewhere

I don't wanna complain (now). SE spent $6k on advertising for us!

DF sponsorship pricing is funny

how so?

back when we first got the tweet, I checked it out and it was $5500
then not 20 minutes later I checked and it was $6000
I have a feeling that it varies quite a bit, and might even be up for negotiation

1:46 AM
Quite possibly.
Well, the fact that SE has given us a full-time employee and a ~5K+ ad campaign makes me feel honored.

it's appreciated, for sure, but it's not a gift - they own the site
but it's great to see that they're committed to making it successful

@KyleCronin Exactly! Seems they're paying us a lot more attention right now.

yeah, it is nice
Spotify doesn't have Sometimes There's a Man mailchimp.com/sometimes-theres-a-man
this is ridiculous
it's completely useless

:|

why would I pay for a service that doesn't even have every song in the world?
I am, of course, being sarcastic
somewhat

2:06 AM
I have to say that Spotify has had just about all I've needed.
Not that my tastes are particularly exotic...
I have been pleasantly surprised by the comedy selection there.
.
Although, the app is... not great.
They need to spend more time on UX.SE.

I understand how to drag an app to Applications to install it, but what do I do when an app comes with an 'extras' or 'plugins' folder (such as XChat Aqua)? there is an app icon and a few folders.

one day I'm going to go through my iTunes library and see how much is on Spotify

@Corey If it doesn't have an installer (.pkg or .mpkg), the process will vary.

@Corey I usually just drag the application only, and leave the extras where I downloaded them

If the other folders are necessary, there should be an installer or a readme with details.

2:48 AM
I found out how to download Chocolat, but it requires a testing key
and I don't know how to get around it without reverse compiling the binary, which I don't know how to do

1.3K from Gruber.

@Nathan Huh, I haven't thought to look for comedy. Nice suggestion.

3 hours later…
5:36 AM
in all seriousness, Spotify's pretty good
going down my iTunes library in terms of play count, I got to #20 before I found a song that it didn't have
granted, a few of the songs I could only find live versions of, but that's still pretty impressive
and in case you're curious, the one that stumped it was Bob Seger's "Turn the page"

5:55 AM
actually, there's no Bob Seger at all
no Eagles or AC DC

6:34 AM
Metallica's version is better anyways.

6:44 AM
uh, no
the entire tone of it is different

Whilst editing something, I accidentally created new tags and so FYI: meta.apple.stackexchange.com/questions/49/tag-corrections/… no rush, just to flag that it may be appropriate to remove one or both of the tags.

5 hours later…

2.5K! Nice.

just wanted to check in and see if @kyle is still alive after Gruber didn't use the space

Yeah, he seemed alive yesterday afternoon.
(after Gruber posted)

just checking :)

The bump from it has been good, but less than I expected.

do you have any experience with what kind of bump other plugs of his have experienced?

2:11 PM
Not Gruber's, no.
But he does say there are like 400K subscribers who got pushed our link twice.
And a million monthly pageviews.

i guess we'll just wait and see what it does over the weekend

Yep. Hopefully that's when it'll really take off.
What we really need is for iOS 5 and iCloud to be released on like the same day.
And then for the new iPhone and iPad and iPods to be released on the same day.

@Nathan that would be convenient!

If we thought Lion was big...

and for os x ocelot to be surprised released next month

2:15 PM
That would be nice too!
Who knows, maybe it would even ship with **PHYSICAL MEDIA!** dun dun dun

@Nathan scandal!!

:P

6 hours later…
7:49 PM
New Lion feature I had not stumbled across before:
QuickLook continues to play media (music at least, unsure about videos) when no longer in the foreground. This now makes QuickLook a BEAUTIFUL ad-hoc music player.
@KyleCronin That's why it's better anyways :D.

2 hours later…
9:51 PM
@VxJasonxV you have no taste, you have absolutely no taste
and I don't mean that in a small, way, I mean that in a big way

10:36 PM
@KyleCronin And you have no concept of sarcasm :D. Also I don't know if I've even heard Bob Seger's version. Therefore I carry no actual opinion of it.

@VxJasonxV Seger's version is quite good - it's more subtle and emotional than Metallica ever can be

people say that about Duran Duran's version of Ordinary World, vs. my favorite trancey version.
Also... Metallica is neither subtle nor emotional so umm. No kidding :).

if you want to get a feel for what the Seger version is like, there are a few 'tribute' versions on Spotify
of course, they're all by country singers, which Seger is not

@Nathan 'tis better to stagger than to play all your cards at the same time.

I have no doubt iOS5 and iCloud and the new iPhone will arrive on the same day
I just asked a question on Quora
shudder

10:48 PM
Yeah, sure, iOS 5 and some piece of hardware on the same day is understandable.
