@AarthiDevanathan Sorry, I have no opportunity to watch video so I can't comment. Is the written form going out of fashion?
@AarthiDevanathan putting my lava lamp in the kid's room is a great idea! For years I have loved to watch the slow undulations. It might be an extra soothing component at bedtime. Or it might keep him from closing his eyes, of course! I'll try it out soon, and (if I remember) report back.
But before we add another component, I first want to finish the transition to going to sleep without any parent present. Have been training that for some days now, with very varying results. A good scientist only changes one parameter at a time ;-)

@Beofett on TV time: I think we're getting around 5 hours per month if even that much. But then, we have never watched much to begin with. That some parents would set up a portable TV in front of an infant at a restaurant comes close to neglect, in my opinion!
it's always weird for me to read the backscroll and chime in half a day later...

Q: What are important legal and financial steps for new parents?

SomeGuyWhat are the most important legal and financial steps for new parents in the US? For example, establishing a will, purchasing life insurance, setting up a college fund, etc...

Is this question too localized? At the same time, I think it's too broad. There could be a "list" type of question about legal steps, and another one about financial steps. I think the financial side is pretty well covered by this one: parenting.stackexchange.com/questions/2338/…

@TorbenGundtofteBruun My gut feeling is it is a "bad" question, but I haven't quite been able to pin down what specifically is wrong with it. The legal vs. financial portion may be the problem.
I don't think it is too localized, though.

@Beofett Legal and financial matters don't overlap or affect each other, so it definitely needs to be turned into two separate questions. I'd like the author (or someone!) to rephrase it and focus only on the legal side, then create another question that focuses on financials. If done that way, the linked "money" question doesn't address it well so many new answers can be given.
I'd volunteer but today work and home are demanding all of my time.

I say we have plenty of financial questions that aren't so open-ended.

Moments in geeky parenting: LF was supposedly having a hard time finding the main idea in stories in reading class. I told him, "just figure out what you would tag it with if it were on the computer, then make the list of tags into a complete sentence" and he got it :P
Good tagging habits FTW!

Nice. :)

@Beofett you're a Walking Dead fan?

@aarthi oh yes. I've always been a fan of zombie flicks, and Walking Dead is one of the best "serious" zombie venues.
