@cocomac such a policy would be very bad :)
+1 to your question...

7:02 AM
@Zanna Assuming you mean "rationale" questions should be allowed (if you mean the opposite, then I misunderstood), should this question and possibly this one also be re-opened? At risk of conflicting with the author's intent, I could also see this one being re-opened if the bit about alternatives was removed (to avoid closure as Needs More Focus)

7:30 AM
Just taking a look at that first one (Python), I think ... maybe. If I recall correctly (without looking it up), @Zanna has advocated for "advantages/disadvantages" questions in the past being good for the site. In asking "why", that question seems to me to be asking for the pros/cons.

Is that opinion? Often borderline, IMHO. I don't have a strong feeling either way, but I just seem to recall that @Zanna has said in the past that those types of questions are okay. I might be wrong ...

I think this is off-topic. askubuntu.com/questions/1443267/…
Asking about running Ubuntu on hardware that is officially not supported. There really isn't any point to this .. 😎

8:16 AM
This should probably be closed as either off-topic (Mint), or duplicate of the phased updates thread I referred to..

Q: dist-upgrade won't upgrade kept back packages

cringeposterI'm on Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon, based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. I'm trying to upgrade all upgradable packages on my system but this is the output I get: % sudo apt update Ign:1 http://linux-mint.froonix.org vanessa InRelease Hit:2 https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com stable InRelease ...

In principle, the answer for phased updates apply in full, but it still is Linux Mint.
It's against my principles to add a new answer to a question I know should rightfully be closed. 😉

8:30 AM
@ArturMeinild IMO it's ok. I reworded it a bit. Can you check and see if you still think it's OT?
So much fluff for the actual answer being: "i suggest that you give up on VGA, and just proceed with DVI and HDMI."

8:48 AM
^^^ Edited it and added TLDR.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Ok in that case I've answered. But the same answer could be applied to any non-supported platform. But ok ...

@ArturMeinild True. But fortunately there aren't that many platforms that there would be a point for Ubuntu to run on.
Your answer is nice. Upvoted.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Thanks. I do admit it was a little hard to find the "official" list of supported hardware platforms (also because it isn't updated for 22.04), so maybe this is another reason the question should remain open as it is..

@ArturMeinild Perhaps it can also be used as a duplicate target.
@ArturMeinild Off-topic.

@BeastOfCaerbannog so sorry, in the transcript, it didn't show the links of natty, so I thought it would post a couple and then stop didn't expect it to flood the room. Sorry, there was an Error404 :/

Might possibly hit 10k today. 120 points to go, and this WSL question actually became a hot network question.

@Natty tp
@andrew.46 Ah, good to know - A while back it had been explained to me that it required a bit of Mod-juggling to do that.

@NotTheDr01ds Fingers crossed! 🤞

@NotTheDr01ds A tiny boost

@ArturMeinild Thanks! And I'm assuming also thanks for the 40 points in upvotes I just saw :P
Ah, that was thanks @BeastOfCaerbannog then!
And thanks to both.

😃
@NotTheDr01ds Oh, mine was for the WSL alternative question

@Natty tp

Lol - Beat me to that one.

@Natty tp
@NotTheDr01ds Hahaha! I use canned comments

Initially surprised that a 10-year user of the site would make that mistake, but only 100 rep over the years (not from the "other site" bonus), so not a very active user.
Me, too! ;-)

@Natty ne
@NotTheDr01ds ^^^ A nice case of ne. It was an answer, just missing some formatting.
@Natty not sure about that one, but was deleted
@Natty tp - It's ok after the edit, since it now has additional information, but the initial post that Natty caught was a "Thank you" one
I got some upvotes, thanks if it was from any of you!

2:42 PM
@BeastOfCaerbannog I wonder what the limit is before it kicks it back.

@NotTheDr01ds I think somewere around 6 votes in relatively close succession from the same user. It has happened to me twice (I mean receiving upvotes), one with 6 votes and another one with 8.
So if you get a couple of votes from a single user, you must be safe.
If the votes are on new questions, you may be able to receive more votes.
And maybe you aren't asking about that, but you just tagged me (just tagging highlights the last message of a user here), so I am answering irrelevant stuff.

Nope, you are answering the right thing.
And didn't realize that it auto-highlighted the most-recent message based on a tag. Thanks for that tidbit.

@NotTheDr01ds Good!

I was spreading out my votes ... Just have to make sure they are all in by midnight UTC. :P

Hahaha! You don't have to!

4:07 PM
@NotTheDr01ds Congrats NotTheDr01ds 🥳🥳

4:19 PM
@cocomac yes I mean rationale questions should be allowed :)
@cocomac I would support reopening all of them

@ArturMeinild Yay! Thanks!

Dang, I know these types of answers are frustrating when you post it and get absolutely no feedback.
Ok, shameless channel plug to upvote some good @BeastOfCaerbannog answers for a Mortarboard. ;-)

@BeastOfCaerbannog "it's great for previewing images too (that's why I use kitty as my terminal)" - Yes, that's one thing I'd like to see Windows Terminal add.

6:11 PM
@NotTheDr01ds Hahahaha! Thanks!
@NotTheDr01ds Yeah. I hope that they will be useful to some people some time, even without getting voted.

I don't see anything wrong with this answer and I think it should be undeleted. Answer to: Find and delete files starting or ending with certain sign‭ - Raffa‭ 2022-11-26 10:23:46Z

7:05 PM
This question is a duplicate of this question, however I cannot add it as such because I have already voted for another dupe and the system doesn't yet let me.

7:43 PM
@BeastOfCaerbannog It was actually the OP that deleted it originally, but has now undeleted.
@BeastOfCaerbannog Did you retract your close vote?

@NotTheDr01ds Yup. I commented and Raffa responded immediately undeleting the answer.

Cool - Figured there must have been a comment thread I couldn't see.

@NotTheDr01ds No, It got in the review and the community decided that it was not a dupe (after the OP's edit).
See the timeline of the question.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Ah, thanks.
I was just reading through it, and wasn't quite sure if it was a dupe or not. I was still leaning towards dupe, but good to hear it's resolved.
@BeastOfCaerbannog Ahh - Okay, I think I understand. The old dupe voted got invalidated anyway, and now this is a new dupe. Got it. That makes sense.

@NotTheDr01ds Oh, I think you are confused (or I confused you). At first I suggested that it is a dupe of How to enable "mirror" feature in the display settings using command line?.
The question got in the Close votes queue and then the OP edited their post and said that it isn't actually a dupe of that. So the community rightly decided that it shouldn't be closed. But today I found the question make mirroring displays the default in gnome which I would use as a target to close again the question as dupe, but the system doesn't let me do that.
@NotTheDr01ds Exactly!

7:54 PM
That's why I'm saying - We're on the same page now.
Right
Okay, VTC'd that one as the proper dupe.
I'm sure there's a meta thread somewhere explaining why you can't change your Close vote reason. :-/
It's still odd to me.

@NotTheDr01ds Thank you
@NotTheDr01ds Actually you can, but not before a certain time (which I'm not sure how much it is, but I think it's about 20 days) has passed.
