@BeastOfCaerbannog just saw this note. When the item came up in the review queue, I saw it as being a bug (which has likely been resolved over the years) within the code and the solution as a workaround to a fundamental issue that needed developer attention 🤔

@matigo the bug report closing reason is somewhat misunderstood. It should be used for questions intended as bug reports, not for questions looking for a workaround that is also a bug and should be reported. In the latter case, a comment suggesting the OP to report the issue as a bug, along with the appropriate place to do so should be the best way to handle the question.

@Natty tp

'MegaBurn' hmmmm..... sounds legit? :)

@andrew.46 I learned a lot before buying, then went and acquired 8! 🤪

@matigo Good call :)

7:06 AM
@BeastOfCaerbannog I read it, but they say the output format is deprecated, while the comment says the command is deprecated. I am not sure what the former means
on my system rfkill list outputs something different to rfkill. The same information there, but the rfkill list output format is familiar (the output of rfkill is more concise)
considering that rfkill list is "maintained for backward compatibility" at least, editing a 9 year old post for this kind of "update" seems a bit off
if someone started suggesting such edits to every post with rfkill list, I would consider that destructive

@BeastOfCaerbannog thanks!
@BeastOfCaerbannog yeah I guess that post would be no longer needed, along with the comment it replies to, if the edit were done

@Zanna I suppose that the list option will be completely removed at a later update (no idea how later).

@BeastOfCaerbannog it's really annoying that paste.ubuntu.com requires login to view... I didn't know there was a Debian pastebin... would it be rude to use it for pastebinit?

@BeastOfCaerbannog :)
@BeastOfCaerbannog but you are the author of the code :)
Beast, what's this: "*To ensure legibility, keep your code lines under 80 characters long.
Include comments to indicate what you need feedback on.*"?

7:16 AM
@BeastOfCaerbannog I believe you... if that is to happen, then I strongly agree with your suggestion to add to the post mentioning that rfkill should be used in newer systems, rather than changing the original command altogether. The edit has already been approved
(sorry for the double ping)

@Zanna I agree with everything you said. The edit should be either rejected or we should have both options (rfkill and rfkill list) in the post.
^^^ you commented about that, but I had already written this comment :)
@Zanna No problem! :D

@BeastOfCaerbannog wow that's a very very answerable question with great potential for creating interesting and useful content
@BeastOfCaerbannog :D

@Zanna Why would it be rude? Because we use Ubuntu?

hahaha yes
get off my lawn ubuntuer!

@RandomPerson I'm the author of a version of the code. The final code is yours and I need no credits for that! :)
@Zanna hahhahahahahahahah
@Zanna There is also pastebin.com , which is neither Ubuntu nor Debian
@RandomPerson It's a common convention that is used to ensure that the code will be visible width-wise to all monitors.
It's not obligatory, but for Python it is mentioned in PEP 8, Python's style guide.

7:24 AM
ok

Many people find that width too small and use something like 120 characters per line, or what fits them best.
@Zanna Yeah, thanks for reopening!

@BeastOfCaerbannog true... maybe I should tell pastebinit to use that
@BeastOfCaerbannog đź‘Ťđź‘Ťđź‘Ť

@RandomPerson Cool! I also like the highlighting of Debian's pastebin! I think the second credit is not really needed. Even the first one, but I really appreciate that! :)

:)
I used to_markdown for the table

7:37 AM
@Zanna Yeah, it seems nice, though I have never used it. I also feel more comfortable with Debian's for privacy and license reasons. Not that pastebin.com is bad, but Debian is Debian. <3

yeah <3

@RandomPerson Nice!

idk if this question should be reopened now - I am biased because I don't personally agree that the close reason applies - but if it remains closed (or gets reopened and reclosed) we should keep an eye on it and reopen when 22.04 is released
assuming it's still relevant
I think we should also try to find other posts closed for the same reason during beta and reopen them if they are still relevant after the release

Well, the software components might change after the final release compared to the beta right?
So, is it appropriate to reopen those questions? I am not sure

it depends if they are still relevant - this is usually possible to determine
we usually try to do this after any release

7:44 AM
ok
Zanna, can you please share the revision history link of askubuntu.com/help/on-topic?

@Zanna by attempting to reproduce the issue oneself

@Zanna Obviously, as my vote shows, I support the reopening, as this is not going to change after the release of 22.04. Since the question already has a useful answer, it's not so bad if it will remain closed until the release, but it definitely should be reopened then.

@RandomPerson Did it really contain " There are no "dumb" questions "?

@RandomPerson so it's not a public link

7:49 AM
yup

@RandomPerson nope
most recent edit April 2021 btw

but in meta.askubuntu.com/q/19977, NotTheDr01ds spoke about it

@BeastOfCaerbannog :)
@RandomPerson oh my bad, there are 2 pages of revisions
it did say that

oh... ok. When was the text removed?

June 2014

7:58 AM
@Zanna thanks!

I posted a comment on the MSE post and in the TL
the MSE mods are generally there

cool
Thanks!

Interesting how asking a mod about a migration issue is considered a waste of time... 🤔

NotTheDr01ds has been a member for 1 year, 3 months .... how did they know about the text which was removed in June 2014? @NotTheDr01ds

those comments are terrible imho
@RandomPerson the meta post says "apparently"
implying that the speaker learned this indirectly

8:06 AM
hmmm...
if the revision history is not public, I have no idea how one can know about it...
maybe Internet archive?

indirectly i.e. someone told them about it, rather than them experiencing it directly

@BeastOfCaerbannog someone even upvoted that comment
throws shade on MSE people

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad ns for domain in answer, potentially bad keyword in answer (2): How to use Kde connect to "add devices by IP"?‭ by thamudi‭ on askubuntu.com

@Zanna I was looking for an online notepad to add the posts that would need reopening after 22.04, something similar to the one that you were using for the code fences fix project:
Sep 22, 2020 at 3:53, by Zanna
I'm using this thing which has a list of posts that need fixing
This does not work anymore!

8:12 AM
did you find something better?

> As announced, this service has been shutdown. If you did not migrate your data yet, please reach out to support [ at ] snopyta.org, data is kept until end of March. /edit: We'll keep data until end of April because we're still getting export requests.

https://status.snopyta.org/issues/2022-01-23-etherpad-ethercalc-shutdown

we could use Trello for that maybe

I found this: etherpad.ch
@Zanna I haven't used Trello. Does it fit this purpose?

since discussion of each case and multiple participants might be required, Trello could be worthwhile
I love Trello
it's just a bit overkill for editing usually
for evaluating a reopening case, I think it would be good
I have got records of how I automatically made Trello cards from SEDE query output

I pinned the Trello board you were using.

8:17 AM
that board has a specific purpose (hope to return to it eventually!)
we could make a board for this project

Should I create a new card there? (no idea how these things are called)
@Zanna OK

write a query to find questions tagged 22.04 or with 22.04 in the body
or something
that have been closed
and generate cards from that
We could do that on, say, 18th April (because the data gets refreshed on Sundays)
and go straight to work on it
one card per question
we can add people to the board (assuming anyone who wants to be involved is happy to create an account)
you can have different stacks (columns) like to do, needs such and such, done

@RandomPerson Question deleted....

you can colour the cards - this can also be used to indicate status of some kind, needing some action or whatever
you can tag users and have discussion on the cards

@Zanna Cool! Sounds awesome! So on 18th April we run the query and get the posts?

8:24 AM
@BeastOfCaerbannog yeah, I think that would be best :)

Awesome

@RandomPerson looks like MSE mods did not want to migrate. Hopefully OP will post on AU (or U&L)

@andrew.46 aah!
@Zanna wth? the flag requesting mod to migrate the post has been marked as helpful.
@Zanna I guess the mods.

I very often mark a flag as helpful and do nothing haha

8:53 AM
should this be considered an answer? Seems like doing what caused the problem again undid it haha
but obviously the original problem shouldn't happen
I would hope this isn't reproducible
but... is it?

@Zanna Perhaps try it on your own computer? :)

I know this doesn't happen on my computer

@Zanna it does seem like no-repro. VTC'd as such.

seems best to me :)
Just reviewed Low Quality Posts
Some very obviously NAA posts there that haven't been flagged
just a reminder than posts in LQP don't always have actual flags - it's worth raising flags on them if they merit that - can help to trim the queue down faster
I voted to close a lot of unclear questions
but can see that Close Votes is still very overloaded
Also the Firsts queues...

@Zanna Perhaps a small meta post as a reminder to also flag would be useful?

maybe
@BeastOfCaerbannog I should make a meta post about this

Yeah, I agree

10:31 AM
hmm is this question a feature request? or is there some way we can help this person?
this question does not seem like a dupe of the suggested one, unless we disbelieve OP's description

@Zanna it does look like a feature request. The OP seems to know how to workaround the issue (compile it themselves) and they don't ask for some other solution.

10:46 AM
thanks... all the other votes seem to be for another reason

Yeah. I voted to close it as a bug report, since a feature request may be considered as such.

the OP of this question hasn't made it super easy to understand the problem, but I think that ultimately it is answerable and it seems the correct answer has not been posted. The target suggestion gives the necessary clue, but I think that there is enough that can be said to address the case of a .desktop file to make it desirable to have a specific answer to this one
an answer could also address OP's misunderstanding of what happened when they ran chmod (many commands don't output anything when they succeed)

Autoflagging disabled until restart

@Zanna Hmmm... It may be the dupe's case, but it may another issue as well. I would either leave it open or, if it should be closed, close it as unclear.
@Zanna How is it possible that this question shows two closing reasons? I don't remember seeing this again. Is it because it was closed by a mod?

if there are two subreasons from the same category they both show up
@BeastOfCaerbannog closed it as unclear. If OP gives info, we can help them
does not seem no repro -answered in comments

11:29 AM
@Zanna Aha!
@Zanna Thanks!

@Zanna I came across it when editing this MSE post where someone had "apparently" ;-) copied/pasted from the "FAQ". However, at this point it's not clear to me whether the text was from the Help or the Tour, however. Most of the text appears to be the "Help" topic (like referencing "Backtrack"), but the original link was to the "Tour".
Sorry, that was meant as a reply to @RandomPerson

@Zanna Left open.
@Zanna I also commented to request an answer from the OP. If they don't respond we can add a CW.
