@Someone It's showing "watched" because I have watched the software installation tag. Its probably a new design.

Q: New post summary designs on greatest hits now, everywhere else eventually

Ben Kellytl;dr We’re starting a rollout of the new post summary design to many existing screens, starting with greatest hits. This will be a slow rollout, with only one set of related screens changing at a time. What we’re shipping now We’ve built a new component to replace the existing post summary imple...

I don't think that this answer offers something new apart from another PHP version (it's not even the version the OP asked help for). I think it should be deleted (haven't flagged myself, because I'm not totally sure). I also think that the whole thread needs a cleanup.

the accepted answer !!!

Wow! Didn't see that!!
We need a lot of downvoters!

this answer claims that apt remove will do a really nice dependency resolution
all in all, I like that answer and the answer you linked to better than any of the older answers

Yeah, but they are for a different version than what's asked.

10:53 AM
does that matter?
I hope nobody is currently using 5.3 or whatever...

@Zanna Sure. But shouldn't the question be made more generic then, so that the answers are relevant to the question?

well, some version would have to be included as an example anyway
the version isn't in the title
I don't see any need to improve the question really
surely people can generalise to whatever version they are using in such cases?

11:11 AM
OK then.

as for what else could be done with this page.... :/
maybe we should just delete the question XD

@Natty ne

11:30 AM
@Zanna Hahaha!
@Someone When you feed a ne to Natty, please also do the necessary edits. That's because, usually, when someone (not you) uses ne, I (and perhaps other users of this room) consider that the report was handled, and won't look at it.
It was a coincidence that I looked at it and edited the post this time.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Yes, I was doing the edit but I got comments (and upvotes :)) Which I felt important to reply to, the edit page is opened in the alternative tab.

@Someone OK, no problem! I just wanted to let you know about that. :)

ughhh worst possible hyperlink naming... what to do?

1:41 PM
@Zanna It's not that bad. For the AU links, the name of the main thread should suffice. No?

definitely, but it's a link only answer as well

3:04 PM
@Zanna Yeah, I agree. I think it should be deleted. It really doesn't offer much other than a list of links.
I flagged it as NAA.

idk why i didn't think of the solution proposed by karel - deleted the answer and closed as dupe

my brain is really not working properly these days
thanks for your help :)
what do you think about the three vote to close proposal?

@Zanna I haven't really helped!
I'm not sure what to do about this edit suggestion
@Zanna I think it is needed, since the participation is low on the queues. On the other hand, the more experienced users don't seem to participate, so I think that lowering the threshold now could cause more harm than good, by having many wrong closures. It's hopeful though that we have some relatively newer users, like @NotTheDr01ds, @cocomac, @Someone, @mickmackusa, that do a great job in my opinion.
If more users start being active in reviewing, then I believe it would be OK to lower the threshold. I'm not sure if now is the right time to do that.
You would be right to tell me then that till that time the reviews will continue getting invalidated. You can see that I'm confused about that. If you would ask me a year ago, I would be certain that the threshold should be lowered.

3:40 PM
@BeastOfCaerbannog It can be "Improved". Since it's removing the 14.04 method, one can improve the edit to re-add the 14.04 method and also add the 20.04 method mentioned in the edit. I'll not do it as I am not on my PC. Maybe someone else can do it.

@Someone I disagree
I think the edit should be rejected
the suggester should just write a new answer
they are adding way too much material
and we should definitely not give the impression that it's okay to remove all that other stuff

@Zanna Thanks. That's what I was also thinking.

Hmm... I don't know about that..

people don't always check back on their edit suggestions
I would feel the need to contact them about it if it was approved

3:42 PM
Well... I am new to this edit queue and I am approving almost all edits like this. I'm not sure why it's a reject, the information is mostly OK.

saying "we wrongly approved your highly destructive edit. Please don't do stuff like this"

@Zanna Yes, I agree that they may add another answer.

@Someone are you saying that you're approving edits that replace most of the content of a post with something entirely different?

@Zanna NO
I am not saying that.
I meant the edits which adds or updates the information provided in the actual post without disturbing it.

@Someone okay, good :)

3:45 PM
@Someone Yeah. You empathize more, since you until recently was in their position. It's normal, but you have to always remember that you set an example for others.
For any doubt that you have in reviewing, ask here!

@BeastOfCaerbannog OK.

Also make sure to revisit your previous reviews to see what others did in the same reviews.

@Someone you proposed a non-destructive solution, so I'm sure you're reviewing okay :)
@BeastOfCaerbannog haha I'm always happy to click back and see the smart awesome people who agreed with me haha

@Zanna Hahahaha! And some petty people who don't know anything!
@Zanna Jokes aside, I think that seeing others agreeing with your decisions gives you a dopamine boost, and that's one of the reasons that AU (SE sites in general) is so addictive, even when you don't get rep.

right! ride that boost haha :)
@BeastOfCaerbannog haha those fools with different opinons, pfff

3:52 PM
Hahahahaha XD

@BeastOfCaerbannog yes, happy to see some newer people doing moderation stuff! phew! sorely needed!

Yeah! :D

I would like to give the 3 votes thing a try but I'm concerned it won't be easy to tell if questions are being wrongly closed
I know that it has been popular on other sites
but I am worried about the unheard voices!
no doubt the reviewing community will love a short close vote review queue and perhaps not seeing votes age away, and not struggling to get enough support for reopening
but most of the questions we get are from people who aren't part of that community and who have very little knowledge of the site

who don't know about meta, who don't even have the flagging privilege...

3:58 PM
@BeastOfCaerbannog Hello. As one of the people you mentioned, thought I'd pitch in. I think it would be good to lower it to three votes. Some of my flags (5%) age away. When I flag something as off-topic (typically because their distro is either EOL or non-Ubuntu), I find that it takes a while for them to be closed. I'd estimate somewhere between eight hours and a day. There are often questions that are off-topic, due to the OP using not-Ubuntu, and there are enough of those, lowering it would be good

and I see no obvious way for users who have the power to reopen wrongly closed questions to come across them
hmm I think 8 hours - 1 day is perfectly fine...
but if correct close votes/flags are aging away, it's a problem

@Zanna I respectfully disagree. AU is the third biggest SE site. Although I don't have numbers here, I don't think random questions getting closed wrongly is an issue. The OP can always edit and put it back, but I think flags aging away is more of a problem than questions getting wrongly closed. For example, here is one that I flagged. It aged away, and is still open 18 days after posting, despite the OP using 14.04.
I think questions staying open due to aging away is a bigger issue than things getting wrongly closed

4:14 PM
@BeastOfCaerbannog I forgot @ArturMeinild. Oops.
@cocomac I would say that both are equally bad.
@Zanna Perhaps we can try it for a period and see what happens.
The thing I fear of is if we will decrease the burden of the Close votes queue and increase it on the Reopen votes.

5:08 PM
@BeastOfCaerbannog yes, I think we should try it for a period of time, but how will we evaluate the effects? In particular, how will we determine the effect on wrong closures?
@cocomac I would rather a question be wrongly left open than wrongly closed. Wrong closures cause distress to the OP and we lose the possible answers as well

@Zanna We will have to check each question manually I think.
Unfortunately, I cannot do that, since I don't have the privilege to see all reviews.

maybe we can sample them

Maybe, if we have enough reviews.
We could gather all reviews with a SEDE script and then randomly select a portion of them to check.
The same should be done for reviews with 5 votes too, so we can use that as the standard.

5:30 PM
@Zanna Is it possible to have somewhere in between? Like four votes? That would speed up closure, without too much risk.

@cocomac I had the same thought, that 4 votes would be the right number for us haha
5 seems too many, 3 seems too few

@Zanna Agreed, should I propose 4 votes over on Meta AU? Or would it be better as an answer to this question?

5:48 PM
@cocomac either posting a new answer or a new question seems okay
not sure I approve of the closure of the new question...
