Not sure why people give there valueable rep to stupid questions - askubuntu.com/q/1356073/1460940. Everybody knows how preload works right ?

@Algnis there you go
@Algnis I have no idea what preload is... is it an application?
@Algnis thanks :)

12:49 PM
@Zanna You are really kidding me right now !
I didn't want to say but you seem a complete beginner in this case
You don't know why is preload ?
You can see my answer to have some information

I'm not kidding

Really ?
That is weird

I still don't really know what it is after reading your answer...

@Zanna You really improved my answer a lot, thanks a lot :)

@Algnis thanks! no worries :)

@Zanna preload is an application which loads the apps(some part of apps) as soon as we boot our system
This reduces the time needed to open them afterwards
So it basically is working like a timeshift
It takes more time in booting
To reduce the time

Description: adaptive readahead daemon
 preload monitors applications that users run, and by analyzing this
 data, predicts what applications users might run, and fetches those
 binaries and their dependencies into memory for faster startup times.
 .
 Note that installing preload will not make your system boot faster
 and that preload is a daemon that runs with root privileges.

After we have finished booting
@Zanna that is some dumb stuff
I never believe that

that's what the package maintainer says about it

It is not true
As per my experience with it for 2-3 months I never saw anything like that
LOL ( My full experience with Linux till now is just 3months or even less (I am not kidding, it's true ))
While I am booting preload.service was taking years so I removed it and now it is much faster
While I was booting preload.service was taking years so I removed it and now it is much faster
@Zanna I can't accept any rep from that question, all of that is deserved by you! You improved it a lot, thanks :)

1:12 PM
@Algnis it's saying apps will start faster, but not that boot will be faster (indeed from the description it seems likely that boot will be slower, as you experienced)
I've only ever used Ubuntu with a small SSD... boot time and application start up time is plenty fast enough... before this the computers I was using Windows on took ~1/2 an hour to boot
I would turn on the computer and go make breakfast hahaha
these days my system boots in about 8 seconds
but never had a problem with apps starting slowly on any device really, as far as I can remember
are people just really impatient? I come from a rural area, so I'm used to waiting a while for stuff hahahaha

Yeah, people are impatient

I hate windows

@Algnis :) you're welcome. I'm not bothered about who gets how much rep, just about the site being useful

@Natty tp
@Zanna I have a feature request - I think so when people are choosing tags while writing a question there should be a banner that says "As you have chosen x tag It would be recommended to provide the output of x command", this should not be for all the tags but certain tags like - tag:freeze the command, in this case, can be something like free -h
Or probably for all the tags there should be a recommendation of some commands like lsb_release -a or neofetch

there is something like that for the the tag I think

Yeah, <blockquote> Other suggestions
Using the [wireless] tag Please provide details about your wireless card obtained from your system as outlined in this answer or, if you have a wired connection, consider this all-in-one script.
If you know the manufacturer of your wireless card (Broadcom, Qualcomm Atheros, etc.) using the associated tags would be helpful. </blockquote>

@Algnis I find the output of lsb_release -a too long. It is very repetitive
anyway, you can make feature requests on meta, but they should be specific
so, you should say which specific tag you want to trigger a message, and what the message should say
because such things have to be implemented by people with dev access. That's not mods or even community managers... as far as I know, it's a rather small and very overworked group of people. So we need to give a lot of respect to their time
I can't think of any tag where the output of some command should almost always be given
