@NotTheDr01ds Regarding this question. I flagged it as off-topic as downloading apps from the Windows Store is off-topic. I was told in the comments that it was on-topic, as it was regarding the installation of WSL2. Given that downloading the store app isn't installing WSL AFAIK (that happens during the first launch I think), can someone clarify how it is on topic for me? Thanks!

3:16 PM
I'm not going to flag any WSL questions in the meantime, but I'd like some clarification for that question

@cocomac we consider WSL to be on topic, including installation thereof
thus, downloading apps from the Windows store is on topic when so doing constitutes part of the installation procedure for WSL
consider a case where someone asks about making bootable USB devices on Windows. That would be on topic if and only if the purpose of making the bootable USB device were to install Ubuntu (official flavors, etc)

3:47 PM
@Zanna Yeah. I thought that would be off-topic too. I guess it is then. Thanks for clarifying for me, though!

@Zanna I've gotten confused about tags before, but is there a good reason to have the [[amazon]](askubuntu.com/questions/tagged/amazon) tag? See this Meta SE question that is pretty much why we don't need it. The tag description says "Amazon is a popular online store."... but pretty much all the questions have a huge range of topics, a lot of them not referring to Amazon Shopping.
Just wanted to ask in chat first before I make another meta post, only to realize that I messed up and the tag was already dealt with

hahaha :)
yeah... not sure it makes sense for us to have a tag for that
I'd suggest posting on meta

@cocomac Hey. Just getting over here. Looks like Zanna answered. Just to make sure things are clear, that question was specifically about installing the WSL Ubuntu app from the Store, so we now agree that it is on-topic, right?

btw the syntax for formatting tags in chat is [tag:name]
which produces

@NotTheDr01ds Yep. Zanna answered. I misunderstood the policy for WSl as off-topic/on-topic

for meta tags use [meta-tag:name]

5:37 PM
Oh
@Zanna I'll toss it in a meta post

no worries, s as I said in the comments, it happens quite often. Glad we could clear things up :-)

:)

@Zanna I just found this Meta question. Should I still post a question. It seems like mine would more or less be a duplicate. That said, it could be revisisted

@cocomac time to revisit imho... the argument in the answer is not good - as Eliah Kagan commented, the various Amazon-y things aren't really related in a way that makes it good to group them with a tag

@Zanna I'll post then

thanks!

5:56 PM
I also added the [microsoft] and [apple] tags in too, as they also should go
