@pomsky maybe because declining a post flag would require one to--ugh!--actually type something XD
being serious, idk, but, looking at it (didn't see that flag before now), I feel kind of unwilling to merge it because the question itself is so nicely done... After merge it would be a locked stub, and few visitors would actually see it, but it is more accessible than the original, I think
the answer on the closed question needs an edit to add a verbal description imho... I should do that
it also has an accept which would be lost
even duplicating the answer on the target seems possibly better to me than effectively destroying this nice question, but perhaps I am being sentimental :)

no improvement - The two supposed grammar fixes consist of replacing correct grammar with wrong grammar ("in" is correct there and "on" is not) and adding "the" where it is optional (i.e., the current wording is correct and the new wording would also be correct).
That edit does also capitalize an "i" that should be "I", but changing "in" to "on" is a more significant change; in addition to breaking good grammar in the name of improving it, that change also renders the post nearly impossible to understand.

@Natty tp This is the second success report they've posted. First one being this one

well y'all commented
they will get answer banned if it continues

I'm not sure if they check their inbox since their question on Stack Overflow seems to be abandoned.

probably even the best
any reason not to undelete?
yeah that deletion and the comment saying it's a duplicate answer seem to be totally wrong
cleaned up the comments, two of which appropriately defended the answer
but didn't stop it getting deleted

do we need the tag (Internet Explorer)? It only has 33 questions

@Zanna I don't know what the comments were, but that is the only answer that has recommended mogrify and also it does not resemble any of the other answers in other ways either, so I find it odd that it was deleted.

@EliahKagan exactly!

This is a duplicate answer

Please elaborate. It is similar to other ones, but I prefer not to write a for loop in cli when I don't have to. – Tibor Udvari [author of the post]

It looks OK to me.

Was that three comments?

yes
the first commenter flagged it as NAA
I think this is the best answer haha

1:01 PM
@Zanna I think it is reasonable to have a tag for that. People used to need Internet Explorer for things and would struggle to run it on Ubuntu. That's rarer now but it may still be needed for some legacy web apps (there's a lot of ancient stuff used internally in corporate networks). I'd rather the tag be rather than but unless there's a need for to refer to something else, I think it can stay.
@Zanna I would be interested to know what percentage of "duplicate answer" comments are correct.
I believe it is extremely low, and that most "duplicate answer" comments are either on posts that are NAA because they are giving thanks or reporting success, or on posts that are not NAA at all and usually do not qualify for deletion.

@EliahKagan ok, thanks :)

@EliahKagan But terdon has said that we do get a lot of duplicate answers.
But I only occasionally see them.

@EliahKagan it is very common for an NAA to duplicate the content of an answer that worked, but otherwise it seems rare

NAA because it is attempting to do what should be done with a vote or comment? Or NAA for some other reason?
@Natty fp
@Natty tp

@EliahKagan yes, I mean a "this worked/thank you" post

@Natty fp It's rather threadbare, but I do think it qualifies as an answer.

maybe this post is a duplicate answer

@Zanna Yes, I'd say that's definitely a duplicate answer. Only the name of the example directory is different.

@karel VTC'd. It's strange the answer (which is wrong) was upvoted.

@EliahKagan I delete voted it and downvoted it so 20k+ users can delete vote it too.

I just downvoted it. It's just a wrong answer.

@Kulfy Can that be edited into good enough shape to be migrated somewhere it's on-topic? Would it be a good idea to do that here? I am not sure.
@Kulfy Rejected.

@EliahKagan elementaryOS is on-topic on elementary OS as well as Unix & Linux. The earlier one isn't active enough. Also, the answer seems to be for Windows.
@EliahKagan Thanks.
(unrelated) Does answer ban restrict user from posting answers to their questions as well?

I think so, but I am not totally sure.

3:38 PM
Can mods lift answer ban?

I don't think so.
Actually I am sure they cannot.

Any alternative for this case then?

CW answer?

tell them to try again, please

@EliahKagan Hmm. But I'm not sure it's ideal if the OP is active enough. Since they are the one who solved their issue, they would explain in a better way.

@Kulfy Also maybe it is lifted now? Mods can't lift it but perhaps it was near the threshold and was lifted due to upvotes and/or undownvotes.

seems unclear. No technical details given. I assume the answer worked because the script was executed with the default shell (bash in most cases).
no longer applicable answer. Blog has been removed.
@Zanna They've posted an answer. Thanks for looking into (cc @EliahKagan)
Was that bounty supposed to be a mere troll? The offeror said they want to reward an existing answer but they never did. Strange.

I think it's still somewhat more likely that they just forgot to award it.
If more such bounties get offered and also not awarded then it would be worthwhile to look into it further. Otherwise I don't think anything needs to, or should be, done.

5:00 PM
Maybe. The offeror is very much active on Database Administrators (afaik). They should've got a notification. It's worthwhile to keep an eye open for such situations, I think.

@Kulfy good job, thanks!

:)

5:22 PM
@Kulfy what I don't get is the error. The error is what Dash gives you when the file does not exist. I don't think they actually ran what they said they ran, or the name of the file is not what they said it is

The question is unclear in many ways. But if the issue is with the script then why login.sh worked? (I'm not asking, of course. I'm just curious)

I mean, I don't think we can tell whether there was an issue with the script, but it seems to me like either they did not run sh ~/bin/login.sh but something else like sh /bin/login.sh or sh "~/bin/login.sh", or, they do not have a file with that name in that path

Yeah tilde wasn't expanded.
They must have used ""

you're right, even if the file didn't exist, ~ would expand in the error
but I wonder if they are reconstructing the error, you know?
I don't feel confident they are actually pasting it

5:36 PM
that's the second bash question I've seen this week that simply doesn't make sense

From the second revision, assumptions that OP quoted the script path also fail. 🤷‍♂️
(unrelated) seems no repro

@Zanna I think that's just the answer. The question is poorly asked but I think it can simply be answered by saying something like that.

@Kulfy Wrong link. this is the correct one
