I think this is a duplicate. (My comment originally contained a technical inaccuracy but I think I've fixed it.)

1:01 AM
My second screenshot in this meta answer doesn't really look right, because I made it on Stack Overflow which is styled different from Ask Ubuntu, because I have too much rep on Ask Ubuntu to make it here. (I could log out, but then I couldn't flag at all.) Can someone with less than 3000 rep make a screenshot of that? I can add the freehand red circle.

1:31 AM
Am I right to suggest they post their own answer? I think the new problem is closely enough connected with the original one for it to be reasonable to regard it as the same problem, but maybe I am misinterpreting the error message in their comments.

Unless I'm missing something, this seems to be a dupe.
Similar situation here. This one would likely have been duped earlier, but it looks like nobody but the answerer looked up what wireless chipset the OP's laptop model has.

Seems OT. Otherwise, it's unclear. I doubt there's a site that has scraped all of YouTube or that, if it did, would manage to stay in operation very long (even assuming no complaints, its operating costs would be uge!).
But aside from that, the question is a webapp request, and while I don't think we should consider all webapp requests off-topic or too broad, it's unclear what their actual requirements are, considering that YouTube does actually seem to work for most Ubuntu users.
(Related) Can we ask for more information here beyond what they've provided?

@EliahKagan the title still seems weird, but I don't know what to do with it. Text processing questions are hard to title! Always easier to show what you want than describe it
@EliahKagan hmm yeah... the new answers are not great so far. I didn't advocate reopening to create a forum post where everyone could post their personal opinion about swap in general :S
@EliahKagan what's with the comments about Flash? YouTube doesn't need Flash, does it?
I suspect the problem is system resources or the CPU and nothing to do with YouTube. There are a bunch of questions about freezes with that CPU and disabling c states doesn't fix it
Somebody got it working just by using Lubuntu, surprisingly

5:46 AM
Did they? It looks to me that there were already using Lubuntu 16.04, and that upgrading to a newer Lubuntu release (17.10) was what fixed it. (If so, then switching to HWE kernel and Xorg packages might also have fixed it for them.)
> To run it with full power on Lubuntu 16.04.3
Hi @BhargavRao! Would you be willing and able to take a screenshot of something? Please feel free to say no to this if it is at all inconvenient or if you just happen not to feel like doing it -- I can always ask later in AUGR when there are more active awake users there. (There are some active users there now but I think they all have too much rep on Ask Ubuntu to capture the part of our flagging dialog I am looking for.)

@EliahKagan oh right. Yeah, something in the kernel

@EliahKagan this one ^, right?

Yes, that one. Excellent -- thanks!!

I'll add a freehand red circle and edit it into my meta post shortly.

5:53 AM
FHCs are a must :p

:)
@Zanna No, YouTube has not required Flash for quite some time, God bless it. I think it may still be possible to use Flash to watch YouTube. I am not actually sure about that. I haven't done so in years.
When support for HTML5 video was new on YouTube, it didn't work on all browsers on all systems and switching back to Flash was a reasonable alternative to solve some problems. I'm not 100% sure that it is not sometimes a reasonable troubleshooting approach, but this is the first I've heard of installing Flash to make YouTube work, in a long while.

@EliahKagan phew. I'm using YouTube every day and if I have Flash then a. I don't know about it and b. Other sites are too stupid to notice that I have it and complain that I don't

6:17 AM
@Zanna I think we have a lot of questions that are more like forum posts than that one is. ...Like the very general question about how to bulk rename files that people like voting to dupe things to! :) Anyway, we don't actually have to wait for PerlDuck. In particular, if you're prepared to write a good answer that covers that material, I'd say you should totally go ahead.

@Zanna I did end up flagging that other one for migration, btw.

thanks for the suggestion!

@karel VTC'd
@Zanna No problem!

9:16 AM
what should be done here?

Well, they're two different package management errors, right?

yes
only one has been addressed by the answer and the target as far as I can see... and the other one is unrelated

My guess is that neither is an error that takes place in Emacs or in the Ruby interpreter. I'm not sure if these are separate errors, but I'd guess they may be. Asking the OP to ask about their other problem separately, as you've done, makes sense to me. You might mention that, if they think the two errors are really different aspects of the same problem, then they should edit their question to explain that.
But if they don't, or if they're not sure, then it's better to post about the other one separately. And under these circumstances -- where one of them is probably simple and probably adequately answered already -- I'd say they should almost definitely post a separate question.

I made my comment a while ago and OP hasn't done anything...

10:14 AM
@Zanna Oh.
Well is that a problem? If it's correctly closed as a dupe, then it's not a problem for anyone else, really. As for them, perhaps they actually did solve both problems. Is there a reason to be concerned, that I haven't noticed.

hmm well maybe not. I am wondering if it should be edited to not mention Ruby (and perhaps Emacs too) in case people who actually have problems with Ruby/Emacs find this completely unhelpful page

I would wait longer, in case they do come back and edit it. An edit now would prevent their subsequent edit from placing it in the reopen queue, wouldn't it?

@EliahKagan hmm I thought it had already been closed too long for that! But I guess it was not as long ago as it seemed to me :) I will definitely wait longer (perhaps until I do my last check on that comment which will be in a few months time)

I'm not sure. What's the threshold?

I'm not sure! I thought it was about 3 days
it's five days
according to the help center

So this is the last day for it?

seems so

Do you (by which I mean, anyone here) think I should keep this comment until 18.04 is released, or is it better that I just delete it now that the question is reopened?

@EliahKagan I would leave the comment in case it gets close-voted again

o.o You people come up with nice room names

:)
Please join us!
I mean, if you feel like it.

Nah, I'm bad at coming up with room names :D

:)
The whole point of the Island is so people don't have to be bothered by discussions that are off-topic or overly long and technical... so I should definitely not push you to come into the room. But anyone who feels like it should feel free to show up! :)

1 hour later…
@Natty tp
pats Natty good work
@BhargavRao it was @EliahKagan who came up with the name for the Island... I don't know who named this room, but its name got slightly changed when it was relatively recently unfrozen

But this isn't actually the same room as the old Ubuntu Regulators room, is it? I can view that room's transcript and it's still titled Ubuntu Regulators.

no, this room was previously called Crusaders of the Lost Downboat, but I didn't want to be a crusader
the Ubuntu Regulators room is where I started getting involved in moderationy things one day when jokerdino asked for some help in AUGR
we (Anwar, jokerdino & I, and some other folks) started doing our Trello project in there
but then some other people started testing a bot in that room, and it disrupted our activities (we were more focussed on the project at that time)
so jokerdino unfroze this room and we moved here
but the bot-testing activity died out soon after that, so the room froze and here we are

12:42 PM
This room in its original form predates all that activity (and my arrival on AU) by several years
I think you (Eliah) were in this room in its earlier incarnation too

I was definitely somewhat active in the Regulators Room. I'm fuzzy on my involvement in this room from its early days, though. I must have been involved, though, considering that I've pretty much always been a room owner here...

I usually find that searching for text in chat enables me to find whatever I look for easily. It's as if the search engine can read my mind, in stark contrast to the site search...

That was the start of the history.

you were right there
:)
why did that question get merged though? it wasn't the same error...
in Ask Ubuntu General Room, Jun 26 '12 at 0:35, by jokerdino
that might have made sense if the answers were absolutely crap :/
like, that's why that redirection doesn't happen if the dupe has answers... in case the answers are good! So deleting good answers to make the page redirect seems really silly
must be time for lunch if I am reading ancient transcript :)

Q: Ubuntu 17.04 Unity Keyboard Shortcut not working

T.RosnerOn Ubuntu 17.04 all the shortcuts are working fine in GNOME, but in Unity they are not working. I cannot open terminal or change language with keyboard shortcuts.

First of all, it's about EoL 17.04. But there is an accepted answer with 2 upvotes. I don't think the core of the answer would do any help to solve OP's problem. If the answer helped OP, I reckon it's just because of the last step of the answer: "Log Out --> Log On" i.e. it might very well be a no-repro.
The core of the answer seems to be a red herring imo.

3:23 PM
@Zanna it was the same error, kinda. One happened from terminal and other from software-center.
@pomsky dubious answer

@jokerdino oh... is that the error you get from software-center when apt needs to reinstall something but can't find an archive for it?

idk, but it is the same issue
I was the one to close vote it first.

ok, if you say so...

@pomsky thanks for bringing it up.

3:43 PM
in any case that (merged) question is deletable, annoys me that I can't delete it

it's a locked question, so it is not deleteable

yes. that's what's annoying. Can't even edit it to make it less irritating

oops I unlocked it

mm thanks :) :)
did you see my query to find answers by a user that got merged to a different question?

woah

3:50 PM
it says that happened to 8 of your (non-deleted) answers

I should delete them?

I only found 2 for me, but one of them I hadn't known about before
noooo! why delete? the whole point of merging is to bring different good solutions to the same problem together isn't it?
there would be no point in merging if the answers were not well worth keeping
one of them is that answer and it's the highest voted one by far
oops sorry I should stop digging around in your stuff. So intrusive. Argh

is it possible to find which of my images are uploaded to imgur and not stack.imgur?

I wrote it because Eliah Kagan mentioned this meta post and that feature request never got implemented, so we don't get notified when our answers are merged, so unless the person who does the merge edits our answers or the question or sends us a message, it's possible that parts of the answer don't make sense on the new question and we don't even know about it
@jokerdino I'm sure that's possible

that was easy to find

4:00 PM
you found a way?

ah, not many :)
@Zanna so the purpose of the query was that you would be able to check that your answers still completely made sense where they had been moved to, like, don't have direct quotes from a question that isn't there etc - and if not make some edits to them as needed

omg so much work D:

lol I don't want to make even more work for you than I do already

4:05 PM
should those images be re-uploaded?

not really
I think stack.imgur have a long lifetime compared to just i.imgur

I thought so too... I read that somewhere
so someday we might be looking for them in wayback...

4:33 PM
@jokerdino when I said "you" in that description I definitely didn't mean you personally, so please don't feel obliged to even run the query. I just meant, whoever is kept up at night by the thought that some of their answers might have been merged and be just lying there somewhere on the site lost and confused without their original question

pretty sure this problem is with the package and can't be resolved... I've seen several questions about it, and I'm not aware of any solution. I remember the issue came up in AUGR but nothing conclusive... It's been bothering me on and off every time it comes up...
in Ask Ubuntu General Room, Oct 13 '16 at 17:53, by Seth
@jokerdino depending on unity-webapps-common just broke utt. Can't install now because of a broken dependency chain. webapps-common -> webapps-services -> webapps-container. Or maybe it's just a PPA I have somewhere.
I think I posted that link before... deja vu... but still wondering if anyone knows...

8:35 PM
@Zanna I'm pretty sure it can be resolved, but each problem case is unique

I mean this particular issue with UTT, not with dependency issues in general

@Zanna yes and it depends on how the system is configured, which ppa'S etc are in play, and is not for the feint of hearts

hmm

it involves unpacking deb files, changing their config for dependencies by hand and repack them
:D

ah I see
well, we need an answer for it somewhere... I'll look for other questions about it that haven't been deleted tomorrow maybe
going to sleep

8:47 PM
i guess with a bit effort we could work out a standardized answer which gives the user enough knowledge to solve it, but like i said its very tricky
and for sure i would need to install 16.04 somewhere for making this
being myself on 18.04 already

Yeah, it's not necessary to reply with tp for those.

Ok.
Should I also report NAA posts to Natty (provided they're clearly NAA), if Natty doesn't seem to have caught them? Do I have that power?

10:43 PM
yup, you've got the power to report

Excellent, I will try to use it wisely. :)

Nat allows everyone to report, but blacklists users after 5 wrong reports.

Makes sense.
Does it blacklist for giving feedback, too?

Yep, blacklists from interacting. We once had a troll who entered chat and gave tp feedback to the past 15~ reports. We had to implement this after that incident. :(

I take it the last 15 reports had not all been true positives?

10:48 PM
Yep.
There were just 2~3 fps.

Apparently that edit is not an audit, but it's... really bad. It replaces terms with other terms in a seemingly random way, turning correct claims into wrong ones. It replaces a term in a URL for a Wikipedia article with another one, causing the link to go to a not-found page!

I'm not convinced this question is off-topic, but I do think it's unclear until more information is given (see comment).
OT bug, I think.
Can we tell what the problem was from the information in the question here? If not, then it's no-repro (see OP's answer).
