I hope the OP edits this question but for now it makes no sense and I don't think we should wait to close it.
Is this intended partly as an answer?

8:24 AM
@EliahKagan can't imagine what the answer could be!
take a deep breath, and sprinkle this magic powder on your computer. Say aloud three times the name of the file you want to change, or the name of the directory if there are multiple files. Voila!
@EliahKagan I think not - after setting up as described in the other answer, you try to suspend, and the display is on the laptop screen, which is not what you want

9:21 AM
is this off topic? Is the answer clear?

9:39 AM
Although Twonky runs on Ubuntu, as does BusyBox, and Ubuntu Core may even be a good choice for that device, I see no indication that Ubuntu is running on it nor any reason to suspect it is. As written, I don't think the answer makes much sense, though maybe it could be edited into shape. But I can't really think of a good reason to keep the question open, and I've voted to close it as off-topic.

I think this is an obvious dupe, but perhaps it's also a question...? if not, I'll just go ahead and vote

It looks like it is. Let me read it carefully to be sure though.

@EliahKagan thanks! voted too

Well, on further inspection, I think it's better not to add there. They got the information that helped solve the problem by running a command but the problem itself wasn't specific to it and their goal may not have been to run the Java virtual machine that way. The obvious dupe doesn't have and shouldn't. I wouldn't remove the tag if it were present but I don't want to add it, unless there's a non-obvious reason to that I've been missing. I'll VTC.

@EliahKagan cool :) voted too
already voted to delete that one

9:51 AM
The off-topic close vote on this question, unless it is simply a misclick, is silly even by the standards of blatantly wrong off-topic close votes.

haha well, it wasn't me

Apparently Smokey cannot autoflag right now (I think that's still happening), though it's still showing reports in Charcoal HQ. Should we ask for the bot to come into this room so we can manually flag spam? Or should we hold off, with the idea that asking people to add it here would just be more work for them while they're trying to fix things?
in Ask Ubuntu General Room, 3 hours ago, by Byte Commander
Attention guys, SmokeDetector is having issues currently and can't cast any auto-flags as MetaSmoke is down at the moment. Please be on alert for a higher amount of spam which will last longer on the site.
in Charcoal HQ, 3 hours ago, by tripleee
Metasmoke instability continues, harming Smoke Detector (incl autoflagging), userscripts, and etc. We are unable to take any quick action, but are considering our options. If you have clever ideas, please add them as a comment on issue #257
I mean, if we do, we should only have reports for spam on Ask Ubuntu in here, like AUGR used to have.

10:23 AM
Although I've heard this is a point of controversy on SO, I suggest approving the edit to that post--assuming the post is still there after your delete vote--because it makes it clearer that the post isn't an answer to the question and can be swiftly deleted. The page was recently bumped anyway, the post isn't spam so the edit doesn't obscure or promote anything, and the suggester's +2 will go away when it's deleted anyway, so they won't be encouraged to edit NAA posts for rep alone.

11:17 AM
Would this post be an answer after editing?

11:33 AM
@EliahKagan ask Smokey to come in
but yeah only for AU
@EliahKagan I would approve (but it had already been approved). I edit NAAs like that myself anyway
@EliahKagan O.o what's WEBRTC and how could it relate to microphone volume?
I noticed spam was hanging around for longer too

@quartata Please go ahead and add SmokeDetector to this room as soon as is feasible and convenient. In here, it should report only posts on Ask Ubuntu -- same as it did back when it was active in our general room -- not network-wide.
@Zanna I don't have privileges but I've ping-replied to the offer message. ^^^

11:48 AM
me too

@EliahKagan wait smokey has been removed from AUGR?

@AndroidDev The bot is still in the room but it doesn't talk there. (It's been set not to, and doesn't posted messages even when MetaSmoke is fully operation.)

WebRTC ("Web Real-Time Communication") is a collection of communications protocols and application programming interfaces that enable real-time communication over peer-to-peer connections. This allows web browsers to not only request resources from backend servers, but also real-time information from browsers of other users. This enables applications such as video conferencing, file transfer, chat, or desktop sharing without the need of either internal or external plugins. WebRTC is being standardized by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The reference...

So. On an unrelated note - I've been banging my head against the wall with some OpenCV issues and I think the solution came to me in the middle of the night :D
@EliahKagan why?

@AndroidDev that always happens to me... I seem to work out problems in my sleep

11:55 AM
@AndroidDev People didn't want the noise, and there was some talk about all the old messages (and stubs indicating deletion) confusing novices who came into the room for help. The idea was that, due to autoflagging, there was no need for it at the time.
This was when everything was working, but I was still skeptical, though they might have been right. I noticed a number of spam answers sticking around for a while, though, since then, even with MS up and running. Still, I wasn't exactly paying attention to how long spam stuck around until then.
@AndroidDev The conversation about it started here, I think, but the main part began about here.

@Zanna btw, I still think I like salted caramel better, but yesterday I had some black cherry ice cream and it was really good... You should try it you haven't already. Oh course, all ice cream preferences are in the eye of the beholder
:D

@AndroidDev lol anything with cherry rocks :)

@AndroidDev "all ice cream preferences are in the eye of the beholder" That's why they call it, uh, eye ice cream.
Sorry. Pun failure detected.

hahaha

@Zanna Well, there's this answer about it on the same question.

12:02 PM
@EliahKagan Hrrrm.... Well I'm not sure I agree with removing it.
Plus who cares if the room looks like a battlefield when nobody is there?

It would be fine with me to keep it (unsilenced) in AUGR.
Supposedly newcomers were confused. I'm not sure why, though, and I'm also not sure if this is known to have happened or if it's something people thought was happening.

Hmm
Well, one thing we could do is have to manually grant users access to the room like some SO rooms,
But I don't think that's a good idea

I don't think I follow. Manually grant access?

@EliahKagan try to join this room: chat.stackoverflow.com/rooms/15/android

But which of our rooms would we do that for?
I know you're not saying it's a good idea for us... but I'm not even sure what idea you're talking about.

12:08 PM
Doing it for AUGR

Yeah, I would definitely be against that. Ask Ubuntu is a site for users. The chat system is complicated enough already; added hurdles to be able to talk in chat don't make sense, and unless accompanied by a compelling explanation of necessity, might even face pushback from the wider Ubuntu community. Also I have no idea what that has to do with SmokeDetector or novices being confused. The concern was that novices would be discouraged from posting. This would ensure they be discouraged!

Right, you could explain what smokey is in the rules description before they can join, but meh, scratch that. Forget I said anything :)

we gonna get transferred to the island..

Wat

@jokerdino Please don't move these messages there.

12:13 PM
No, I don't move them.

The boat lands at an island to offload messages.

Oh so you mean delete?

@jokerdino I wasn't sure. Sorry about the curtness -- I just wanted to reply quickly just in case. The island is for stuff unrelated to moderation and cleanup, and if the island starts getting used for that stuff, it'll become the new Downboat, which I think would be much worse than the situation the Island was formed to address. (Which, admittedly, is a situation I have contributed more to creating than most people...)

yeah
The one thing about SE is we can sort of undo things if needed.

12:16 PM
That is a good thing.
@AndroidDev I think we're talking about chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/66387/island-of-castaway-thoughts (I do know you know about that room though... so maybe I'm the one who's been misunderstanding).
Oh speaking of undoing, I had meant to ask: can question merges be undone? I don't have any post in mind, I'm mainly just wondering.

That one is not possible by mere mortal mods.

Not even with Thomas's HAMMA O POWAAAA?

naw

@AndroidDev Well, sort of along those lines, something could be added to the room description explaining that Smokey is their (optionally ignorable) friend and not to be feared. I don't know if that's a good idea either, though, since people want SmokeDetector less in their faces, rather than more.

12:24 PM
@EliahKagan ahh... hmm... so I could it could be an answer

I think it could be, yes.

@jokerdino I guess I am overly zealous in throwing stuff overboard XD
is this a script? What are they doing with it?

4 hours later…
4:25 PM
@EliahKagan Wait, it shouldn't still be in the room...
that's weird

@quartata Thanks!

@quartata That's probably because smokey only joins rooms when he starts, but never makes calls to leave rooms, and doesn't expect to be in other rooms when he starts up, he never leaves rooms, if we force smokey to be offline for 5 minutes, I think he should automatically leave everywhere

@Ferrybig ohhh right
we should probably leave it like that since otherwise it'll cause mass join/leaves when stuff goes wrong
although
It actually will only join the room if it has watcher: True
unfortunately AUGR had that on even though it didn't accept commands there
Definitely for sure @ThomasWard's fault :P

4:41 PM
haha he hasn't been here for a while, so you can't ping him I guess

in Charcoal HQ, 20 secs ago, by SmokeDetector
@quartata It's DJMcMayhem's fault.
anyways you should be good to go
you haven't gotten any reports yet
but when you do they'll be here
note that Smokey isn't in the room, it only joins if it needs to receive messages
if it's just posting reports like I have it set up it'll magically appear :x

thanks a lot!
I see Smokey is snakey

5:19 PM
seems closeable one way or the other I just kicked the answer out of the LQP queue by editing. Perhaps it is upvoteable... Did I do the right thing?

5:35 PM
hello, where is the bot?

in many places...

does it phone home?

haha I don't know about IT
it works...

5:53 PM
the bot's alive

pokes it

How does it post without entering the room?
Does the StackExchange API just allow that for everybody, for rooms where they have write access?

It entered our boat.
hope others don't think it's our distress signal

Are you sure it was really in here? It was briefly listed with the rest of us after it posted the message, but it isn't pingable like a user who has been here anytime in the last three days.
In contrast, it remains pingable in AUGR where it's set up differently.

spooky

6:06 PM
@SmokeDetector ping
@jokerdino it does look a bit like that

@Zanna You can reply to it... but if you type @Smo, it doesn't autocomplete, does it?

@EliahKagan no, you're right, I'm just being silly

2 hours later…
8:32 PM
I notice the post about flagging correctly is featured on meta... hope I'm doing it right haha

@EliahKagan You don't have to join a room to post messages in it for whatever reason. "Joining" is only when you want to receive messages

Thanks -- I did not know how that worked. People usually come into a room to talk, so it seemed weird that SmokeDetector didn't have to.
