Q: Licensing for redistribution

Pini SolomonCan I redistribute ubuntu if I install docker engine on it? does installing apt package consider to be modification of the ubuntu software and require ubuntu pro from Canonical?

Or if anyone can provide a clear answer, as to whether installing Docker is a "modification to Ubuntu".

@ArturMeinild Hmmm... I think it's ok. It really is a question about Ubuntu that is not unclear, not unfocused, and seems actually answerable, although not by me. Also there are currently 123 questions tagged with the tag, which further supports that questions about licensing on Ubuntu are ok.
Perhaps someone would really have to contact Canonical about this, as you say in your comment, but think about the fact that someone has already asked about that and knows the answer. The answer would be more than welcome here.
So I'm against closing this question as off-topic.

@BeastOfCaerbannog I can see that - I just find it very strange that the licensing requirements are so unclear as towards you can distribute with a set of packages installed.
I'm totally fine with this staying, but I would still have asked Canonical directly, instead of here if it was me..

@ArturMeinild Sure! I don't disagree with asking Canonical. But I think that a Q&A about this would be helpful because if someone has received an answer from Canonical and posted it here would help other people, as they wouldn't have to ask again.
;)
