@andrew.46 One of the reopen votes is mine. I had come across the question in the Reopen votes queue. In my opinion, software recommendation questions are not opinion-based as long as they adequately describe the software needs. I also don't think that questions looking for alternatives to Windows software are off-topic.
Now, regarding the age of the question, it is indeed pretty old, and if I were to cast the first reopen vote, I would most likely had asked for opinions here, as many answers to the question must have gone obsolete by now. I would prefer a new question if someone would look for an alternative to Foxit reader in 2024. But then it is very possible that it would get closed as dupe of the one we talk about.
So it's not a simple thing to decide what to do in this case, but since I found it in the Reopen votes queue, I thought it was better to have it open, so that someone could possibly post a current answer there. Also the Delete votes, which I disagree with, played a role in my decision in voting to reopen the question, as I think that it shouldn't be deleted because it's not really off-topic.
@BeastOfCaerbannog Fair enough. Mind you I have started pruning the question and answer and I have noticed that Foxit support for Linux (which I have reduced to one answer) seems to have been discontinued...
