it's a bug and closed as such, but OP dug deep, found a workaround, posted as an answer. Makes sense to reopen it?

@pomsky I VTRd it.

I did too

thanks, let's see how it ends up

Okay, this is a dupe, verified on my bionic. OP is just making a hypothetical claim, "The new version of Ubuntu must be very different from when I stooped th use Ubuntu" without even installing bionic, let alone trying the solution

dupe, answers are identical

how's this getting upvoted?! o.O

3:39 PM
@pomsky GNOME-haters?

@Zanna Ah, yes, makes sense!

annoying though

yep, saw many questions getting "automatic" upvotes if OP faced an issue with newer Ubuntu releases (read "issue with GNOME") even though the questions themselves are intrinsically unclear or opinionated

yeah, me too... that's a big problem
Slightly changing the subject, I've been working on destroying the tag. The questions are of good quality, but they're all about keyboard shortcuts not working as expected in GNOME shell hahaha

heh! A tag only for a single type of questions! :D
@pomsky (<-- in reference to this) @Zanna do you think it's better to edit the proposed target question and add 18.10 too to the title given it seems it also works on cosmic?

4:08 PM
@pomsky sure, that definitely makes sense
The Wanderer has updated his famous AMD graphics question to incorporate newer versions where it still applies in the title
It's imho very helpful to visitors to do that

@Zanna Could you please do that? I've tried, but it sounds a bit choppy after my "edit".
the current title itself is a bit weird-sounding imo

I agree
I had a go - how does it look now?

@Zanna nice, looks far better! thanks a lot.

thanks for the suggestion & dupe-finding etc :)

@pomsky do you happen to know what handles the auto-rotate on 18.10? My friend says it's working well (at last!) but he has to make one adjustment...
I'm telling him to ask a question though

5:51 PM
@Natty tp

@Zanna I haven't tried 18.10 yet, but unless there was a huge change from the older ones, this gsettings (dconf) key would help turning it on/off: org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.orientation active
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.orientation active false/true

OT no-repro - I just rebooted, and problem solved.

@pomsky thanks :)

6:50 PM
accidentally posted to wrong question?
doesn't seem to have anything to do with the question

maybe they misunderstood
I don't want to reopen this question, which seems unanswerable (what phone is it?) and possibly off-topic (ask on Android Enthusiasts!)
but... it seems like it can no way be a dupe of that

7:27 PM
My friend posted a question about his screen rotation issue (oh it was 18.04... I'm sure he said 18.10)

2 hours later…
10:40 PM
@Zanna I actually voted as unclear (for the initial version)
