Hi viyancs
Welcome to our chat room

hi jmort253
yes nice chat room :)

I'm thinking of renaming it "The PM Ghost Town" or maybe using the name of a famous ghost town.
At least until we use it more :)
So you're a project manager on a team building a PHP app?
How long have you been a PM?

so maybe i can get some suggestion in this site
yes , i'm new for project manager

How do you like it so far?

yes, i like that

4:26 AM
Were you a developer yourself before you became a PM?

yes i'm developer before PM

Right on. That's my background too.

Q: What Should a Project Manager Do If Development is Not Completed On Time?

viyancsI am a project manager of a development team. Oftentimes, the deadline for the development project is not finished on time. about my team i'm have 4 person in my team and they are older than me sometimes I feel like telling them uncomfortable because they are older than me and any 2 people is...

Just thought I'd drop in a link to the topic in here :)
So, you're having trouble with deadlines.

yes thanks for that :)

That's a pretty common problem for PM's.

yes i have trouble with deadlines

4:30 AM
What kind of things have you tried so far to get the team focused on the goals?

i'm make developer schedule , i'm make project flow , and project enviroment
that is enough ? or maybe any something will be add...

Do the developers help with these things too?
I want to understand your problem :)

that is enough ? or maybe any something will be add...
my problem
1) i still confuse communicate with my team to do it
2) i'm have some person of my team is not better in skill to this project

How do you determine what the schedule is? Do the developers give you their estimates of the tasks they're going to be working on?

yes they are give me a cost for develop each my task

4:37 AM
Ah, I see, so they go over their estimates?

example for login page 1 day
and ect
yes like that..;)

Have you talked to them about this? What did they say when you brought up the issues?

yes, they are ask to me they need more time to study my enviroment develpoment , because they are new in framework(in here i'm using fuelphp framework)

Why did you choose fuelphp? I've never used it myself.
Or did the developers choose FuelPHP?

i'm used that because the licence it's no problem with my company
why you not use that?

4:46 AM
We program in Java on Google App Engine.
Or Objective C if it's an iphone or ipad app :)

hehehe..just different platform right
:)

We don't really use PHP for much. We've used Wordpress for a few websites though.
It's a great platform for that sort of thing since it allows the client to make changes without (Fix the spelling issue) being a development issue :)
Viyancs, I'm not 100% sure about your issues, but we've found that sometimes it helps to let our developers have a say in what technologies are used.
Within reason, of course :)
I wonder if maybe your team might have ended up using a PHP framework they wouldn't have chosen. Did they suggest using something they were familiar with? Like, did someone say "I love CakePHP! I used it on project X before."
Or are they just so new that it wouldn't have mattered?

hmm..understand
maybe i will think again for enviroment development
thnks for helping :)

@viyancs - You're welcome!! I edited your question to clean up some grammar and add some points from the chat. This will help get you some great answers! :)
We've found that it's best to involve the development team in technical decisions.
After all, they're the ones who will be doing the work :)
It also can free you up as a project manager to focus more on the product schedule, communicating the status updates, looking at costs, and other project management duties :)
Of course, it depends on having a good team, and the only way to really figure that part out is to try involving them and see what happens.
As far as the freelancers, in the schedule, you'd need to count them as like 1/2 a person, for instance. So if you have 2 full time people and 2 50% time people, in total you'd have 3 FTE (full time equivalent) employees
It's great that your developers are doing their own estimates :) :)
That's a major plus!
But I'd suggest coaching them on how to give better estimates by using something like this: Evidence Based Scheduling
Good luck!

thanks for suggestion @jmort253

5:00 AM
@viyancs Anytime! :)
