quick tip you may or may not know, if you are unsure whether time machine is actually doing something or is frozen during the "Preparing backup" stage, you can go into your backup drive, find the most recent .inProgress file > right click > show package contents > find the .log file and run sudo tail -f /path/to/the/log/file.log. You will see very detailed progress information there. The tail -f updates the console live.

@Tetsujin Most things that animate on Mac are irritating. Just do it in a snap and let me work..
if making it fullscreen was a bit faster and coming out of it was consistent, not just esc sometimes (even if the app uses it meaningfully), ctrl cmd f sometimes, I'd use it more often.
Helps on Xcode :)

The animation doesn't really bother me, as such, though yes, the transitions are hellish slow. I just loathe fullscreen. Having 2 27" screens makes it the most useless "feature" of all time. Random Space 'numbers', no spread over both screens [if you fullscreen any app the other screen goes black, & no, I am not going to ever use 'screens have separate spaces, that's even more irritating]… it's just a bad idea, made badly.
The only reason I see it having any use whatsoever is if you're stuck on a laptop with a teensy screen & trying to make the best of what screen area you have.
