Just posting some musings - when anyone takes the time to comment and link to a related post, that’s almost always an instant +1. Not only is the question already relevant and on topic, it’s about to form part of a web of words that leads people to answers.

I just don’t get -1 votes when we know a question is closely related or cast a vote to close as dupe.

Not that I cast any vote, but when I saw that question, I knew this existed on site, but I moved on, no vote (which probably would have been -1), no comment, no closure

I hesitate to tell or question people about voting wrong, but as a class, duplicates seem to really bring out negative votes.

Unfortunately, somehow. Downvoting just because a user wasn't aware of a previous question seems rather unhelpful, we might rather welcome differently worded questions pointing to the same answers as they give more users a chance to find what they are looking for in the future
