In case anyone here likes new voting algorithms, the City of Minneapolis has had ranked choice voting since 2007 - but a recent change to eliminate primaries and let all candidates show up on the actual ballot has really made the change work well.

After 10 rounds, the candidates getting eliminated are still only gathering 100 votes, so it might take quite a few more rounds to identify the winner

@bmike Are they running these rounds manually? This sounds slower than a papal conclave.

@Daniel happens in other places, e.g. UK's European elections and these are all manually counted. Takes a day I think (although results are delayed to fit in the rest of Europe)

Forget that it apears we do do elctronic scanning of the ballot papers - we still vote by putting numbers by the candidates

Minneapolis has paper ballots where I vote and yes, each precinct hand tallies the votes, seals the ballots and then those summaries go to the counting body.
