@JasonSalaz spider almost always just traverses the link tree without actually downloading content. So you get the link tree back, and don't have to filter out the content (even though you still need to download everything to get the links - so it's not going to be any faster IMO)

I keep having these SSD+HDD combo questions, but I hope it's contributing positively to AD:SE :P

Q: Will a HDD spin down when not used? SSD set as primary drive (but in optical bay)

BaumrOn my MacBook Pro, I will be moving the Apple SSD into the optical bay (using a caddy/bracket), and will then install a 7200-RPM Apple HDD in the primary bay (where my Apple SSD is now). But I'll be using the SSD as the primary drive for everything (entire home directory), and the HDD only for s...

@Baumr One thing I might suggest. Try putting far less "answer" in the question.
sometimes trying to steer it too much in one direction means that others can't or don't bother to read through everything. In this case, some of these questions are pretty easily explained in one or two sentences, no?
I'll take a stab at editing it down - try letting it sit for a day or three and then think about editing it back - making a stab at an answer if no good answers arrive.
(and if you really hate the edit - feel free to roll it back - I'll make it really drastic - when normally I try to be a little lighter - but since you asked here and since I had some criticism, I might as well be bold with an edit :)
@Baumr How's this - feedback and criticism welcome, of course.

Q: Will internal HDD spin down when a Mac is booted from another internal SSD?

BaumrOn my MacBook Pro, I am planning on removing the optical drive and adding an SSD to the mix. Since Apple doesn't support this configuration, I don't find any official documentation covering SSD in the optical bay or HDD in the optical bay. I presume the energy saver setting would spin down any s...

@DanialJose not out of the box. I think I saw your question on the site and that script uses some unix commands that apple didn't bundle so you'd need to get the, compiled on Mac. Are you looking to learn shell scripting? If not, you could just print PDF from safari or look on the App Store for a general web site print tool

Why shouldn't I end a post with thanks? Just wondering.

"Thanks" is implied.

@JShoe Great question to ask on Ask Different Meta - for questions about how to behave on the site - how it works, etc...
Also - we're still working on the about page, but since you're new - have a look at it and at the FAQ.
We're (and by we - mostly the site designers / operators) are working to make it easier for a new person to get a feel for how the site norms and expected behavior are established / and why

Q: What is the general consensus here about "thanks" at the end of questions?

MahnaxAccording to this page on Meta Stack Overflow, salutations, tag lines, thanks, etc. should be removed from posts. If I do that here, are my edits likely to be accepted? Is it okay if I remove those things from questions?

After successfully implementing assistance for new askers, we’d like to do the same thing for new answerers. So we’ve been analyzing characteristics of answers by new users to determine what makes an answer fundamentally good or bad.

One strong predictor of a poor quality answer may surprise you: the presence of the words thank or thanks in a short answer.

That’s right, the humble, innocent desire to thank your fellow man (or woman) for some question or answer they have contributed was sadly choking our system in thousands upon thousands of florid thank you “answers”. …

@JShoe Or to put it differently: The way to say "Thank you" on AskDifferent is an up vote :-)
