@Chealion could you add the rss feed in the room ?

@radius: Is the RSS feed available when in private beta?

radius
yes

Ahh. It's just not "published" on the front page yet.

radius
It is :)

radius
at the bottom of the page

radius
7:59 PM
at least when logged in

I'm just too used for looking for the RSS logo in Safari's address bar.
Anyway it's added. We should see if it works in the next couple minutes.

radius
I do see it in Safari bar too !

radius
I'm sur feeds bot will join ! it works on room unix

I swear it wasn't there earlier. Mind you I wasn't too interested in adding it unless people started to use the room. In the Super User room it was axed because of how inactive the room was.

radius
May be it could be an hidden user by default

radius
8:04 PM
so that user could enable it only if wanted

Hiding it is how I deal with it on the Server Fault room but as far as I know there is no way to auto hide a user.

radius
I've just asked balpha on the chat feedback room about this possibility

Thar she blows!

8:35 PM
The second day seems to be a lot quieter than the second day.

radius
Than the first you mean ?

radius
I saw lots of question on unix.se that could be on apple.se

radius
it's confusing

err yes.

Q: Software developer switching from Linux to OS X, what are the gotchas?

grokusI have used Ubuntu/Fedora/Red Hat/Suse but haven't used OS X at all. If I have to start using OS X regularly, what are the things I should look out for? Tools I use are GNU tool chain, C++/Boost, etc.

Q: How can I (and should I) use my Linux file server as a Time Machine backup server for my Macs?

SandyI have two Macs that I'd like to start backing up using Time Machine, but all of my storage is attached to my Linux file server. How can I use my Linux file server (which happens to be running Ubuntu Karmic) as a custom Time Capsule replacement, and have my Macs (running 10.6) automatically back...

Thanks for the examples.

Q: How can I tell what version of OS X I'm on from the command line?

Benjamin PollackI frequently find myself SSHing into various OS X machines, and it'd be useful if I could tell what version of OS X I was on when I'm doing that. uname -a doesn't quite work, since Darwin kernel versions don't always change with the rest of the system.

radius
this is from the 10 latest question ..

Wow. Those are perfect for Apple.SE or even Super User.

radius
30% of mac question

radius
8:39 PM
yep, it's very confusing, can fit on 3 site

radius
I'm thinking of posting on meta.so about htis

Which site do you think it harms the most? SU or Apple.SE?
Because both Unix.SE and Apple.SE are beta sites and might not be around 90 days from now - I don't think you'll get a straight answer yet.

radius
Yes but this is an important question before full launch

radius
I really don't know, first question could also be on SO...

Yeesh: "Your account has automatically been associated with 12 other websites"

radius
8:43 PM
Ho I got a bug with this yesterday

radius
I saw with 11 others on both apple and unix site

radius
:)

It could be - but so long as they can be found by Google and the questions get answered does it matter which site it's on?
Bug?

radius
Database synchronisation I guess, probably nothing important, I will just double check next time that it show 13 and not 12

radius
if I saw 12, I will report the problem

radius
8:45 PM
You're probably right, but if someone ask the same question on 3 site

I haven't signed into every SE site - but the fact it's in the double digits.
Hooray for OpenID - I don't have a username and password for each site.
A lot of duplicate questions/answers with varying quality depending on who in the community saw it when it was asked.

radius
I mean, I want to know how to see os x version from cli, I go to SU or Apple and do a search and find nothing and ask the question

radius
finally there is duplicate across site as you said

Adding comments or linking the question between sites? Not sure how well that would fly.

radius
and no way to merge them

radius
8:48 PM
yes of course you can add comment but you have to go to 3 site and see all most voted answer etc..

I don't think there is a solution to the fragmentation SE 2.0 is causing.
The effort involved just isn't worth it.

radius
I think too :/ the only way I see would be to be able to have the same question shared across site

I find finding my own answers on SU hard enough.
So I can mark duplicates.

radius
but this would mean that SE site become one database

radius
and question in categories

radius
8:49 PM
and each site showing only one category

I figured SU would be more like that. Never really happened.
I also thought the [osx] tag would be a lot more populated.

Q: How should we deal with questions that fit on more than one Stack Exchange site?

radiusFirst, this is about beta sites that might not even exist later, but imagine they will for the sake of this question. Taking the latest 10 questions on the Unix Stack Exchange, I see 3 questions related to Mac OS X: Software developer switching from Linux to OS X, what are the gotchas? How can...
