Thanks for the response!
@MartinR See the above ^ (And thanks for mentioning the problem here.)

@AlexanderGruber Perhaps changing the name of the tag to something more descriptive could help users to notice what the tag is supposed to be used for. (In the thread linked above, the name (divergence-vector-field) was suggested.) — Martin Sleziak 7 hours ago
That sounds good to me. — Alexander Gruber ♦ 7 hours ago
Well, it'll be spammy, but I suppose we can just edit in the new divergence tag to the appropriate questions and then synonym the other one with convergence. Might make the front page messy for a bit but this is a common enough tag that I'd say it'd be worth the noise. — Alexander Gruber ♦ 7 hours ago
@AlexanderGruber I have posted the suggestion to change the name - to see what other users think about this. I am not sure what is (logistically) the best way to do this. I'll leave a few comments in the Tagging chatroom. — Martin Sleziak 9 secs ago
I think we will have to look at all questions tagged to check whether they are tagged correctly - at the moment there is more than 550 such questions.
But it would be nice if this was done without bumping all of them.
I am not sure which approach will mean less bumping.
A. Moderators could rename to a new name - or something similar. This would mean the question which are tagged incorrectly would have to be bumped when retagging.
B. Another possibility is to create new tag and retag all posts about divergence in the vector sense. After this is done, moderators could ask for burnination of or merge it into a suitable tag. (In this approach only the questions tagged correctly - assuming we follow the tag-excerpt - would be bumped.)
At the moment there are 559 questions tagged .
After looking just at the tags sequences-and-series and convergence it seems that at least 255 (158+67) of them are in fact about sequences/series.
Among the questions that are tagged neither sequences-and-series nor convergence, there is still plenty of questions which are not about vectors/vector fields.
Here are edits where the edit summary contains the word "divergence" (if somebody was removing the tag, they might have mentioned it): data.stackexchange.com/math/query/746801/…
Deleted posts with the divergence tag: data.stackexchange.com/math/query/858309/… Post which had this tag at least at some point: data.stackexchange.com/math/query/851136/…
Assuming I did not mess up this query, there is only a handful of questions where this tag was removed at some point: data.stackexchange.com/math/query/910476/…

@AlexanderGruber I'd prefer one tag that is called convergence-divergence rather than a synonym. We might end up with the opposite situation of divergence (in the vector calculs sense) being remapped to convergence. — quid ♦ 8 hours ago
