Q: Mathematics and Physics prerequisites for mirror symmetry

user23238I am a physics undergrad interested in Mathematical Physics. I am more interested in the mathematical side of things, and interested to solve problems in mathematics inspired by physics maybe with the help of techniques in Physics. My current knowledge is some QFT(beginnings of QED), no string t...

AndrewsProposal: Create "mirror symmetry" tag mirror symmetry is already a tag in MO, and there're already several questions about it now in MSE: (1), (2), (3), (4), (5). Here is an introductory to mirror symmetry mathematically which says mirror symmetry introduces a correspondence between complex ge...

The tag-info is currently empty.
This is probably obvious, but the tag-info should clearly say what the tag is intended for. (Since many users when seeing the tag called mirror-symmetry will use it for problems related to reflections w.r.t. line/plane in geometry and not about the use in string theory, algebraic geometry and related areas.) So maybe it might be useful to suggest what the tag-excerpt and tag-wiki might look like. — Martin Sleziak 19 hours ago
@Andrews As I mentioned in my comment, creating tag-info (tag-wiki and tag-excerpt) would be useful to prevent incorrect usage of the tag.
In general, it is considered good practice that the tag creator also creates the tag-info. But in cases where the tag name might be ambiguous, this is even more important.
The question Noncommutative geometry and mirror symmetry still has the tag, but the OP later deleted the question.
@AlexanderGruber Considering that you have removed an older occurrence of the tag, I wanted to make sure that you are aware of the discussion about on meta - just in case you have something to say about it.

Q: tqft or topological-quantum-field-theory? Which one to keep?

mrtaurhoA fairly new member of our MSE community, namely the user Andrews, started to reshape our own physical questions fundamentally basically by retagging them in an appropriate manner. Another recently posted Meta question of his own deals in more detail with his aim. I appreciate his effort and it i...

Dan RustProposal: rename "topological-quantum-field-theory" to "topological-quantum-field-theories" and synonymise it with the tag "tqft" An old question of mine recently had a couple of attempts to change the tags, which were approved (and I agree). In the process, the new tag topological-quantum-field...

Speaking of tags related to mathematical physics, I'll mention that now there is a synonym $\to$ . math.stackexchange.com/tags/topological-quantum-field-theory/… math.stackexchange.com/tags/synonyms

I edit a question to create but it need 2 approval and I went to sleep till now, so I wasn't able to create tag info immediately after creating that tag.
I'll do that soon.

Q: Some ideas on tags about physical field theory

AndrewsUpdate: For (1), I have edited info of field-theory. For (2), moderator Alexander Gruber♦ has created a synonym and contributor YuiTo Cheng improved info of tqft. For (3), contributor YuiTo Cheng added info and usage of conformal-field-theory. For (5), I have edited info of mathematical-physi...

Thanks, I realized the synonym, and there're some other changes in tags about physical field theory, as I mentioned in Update of this question.

> (5) About , this tag is wrongly used in many elementary physical questions and I deleted a lot of this tag these days, my thoughts are here. Maybe we should explain more in usage guidance.
In connection with (5), perhaps adding a warning for this tag might be useful: Do we want tag warnings, and for which tags? (I'll leave the the people who are active in the (mathematical-physics) tag to decide whether to post a suggestion for a tag-warning in the linked thread.) — Martin Sleziak 11 secs ago
@Andrews Sorry, I did not realize that it was a suggested edit rather than a direct edit. I should have noticed that.

Thanks, I'm thinking how to make info of [mathematical-physics] better to decrease misunderstading

The tag now has tag-excerpt and tag-wiki - created by Andrews.

I found a rather old tag , and nearly nobody use it now.
And is becoming replaced by now...

7:31 PM
No tag-wiki and tag-excerpt for [singularity-theory], I seldom see this tag and don't know much about that.
About , the info says"A property of an object is called invariant if, given some steps that alter the object, always remains, no matter what steps are used in what order. ", I think it's not clear and there're many different kinds of invariants in different fields of mathematics so it may not be a good idea to use one tag to cover them all.
usage says "For questions involving the Legendre symbol", I don't think it's appropriate to tag just because a question involving a mathematical symbol, and I don't think it's a good tag.
About , although there're a lot difference between linear pde and nonlinear pde, this tag is much less used(189 times) compared to (~14k), and 156 out of 189 also tagged , so I doubt if this tag is necessary enough. By the way, there're no such tag for nonlinear pde.
I see a post about wrong use of , and in that post he suggest rename it to . Now we have 2 tags, and , maybe we should suggest a synonym?
should be and it has no tag wiki and usage guidance yet.
Sorry for pouring so much words. Is that OK in a chat room?

@MartinSleziak To tell you the truth, I don't remember why I removed that.
The tag seems like a good idea to me now, particularly considering there are a few other examples of questions that would benefit from it.
