it has suffiecient latex support and you can post articles

I'm think something more to the line of the proof tree system suggested by Gowers.

additionally the branched replies makes a really nice way to address specific messages

I am unfamiliar with that system

The idea is given a problem, people can suggest approaches, each approach can become a branch of the tree. people can then chose a branch to work on, and branches more. Until it reaches something people are able to solve. so it seems like a proof tree system.

in my opinion, this can be achieved in wave

the problem orignally starts in one wave

ideas are proposed

people can discus each idea as a tangent to the proposition

when the idea becomes sufficiently fleshed out

move to another wave dedicated to it

everyone interested in working on it can jump into that wave

and this could be repeated as necissary

I see no reason why this wouldn't be satisfactory

my biggest issue with wave is the speed

at least when I was using it heavily

the servers were SLOW

Yes, it can be all built on google waves. My concern is no one around me want to adapt wave.

I tend to think that asking them to get a google account is a lot less imposing than asking them to join some random site, or download/install some program

but that is my opinion

I think so too. I will investigate more on google wave.
