8:00 PM
4 AM here in Antarctica.
Looks like @LeakyNun and I have the same time, lol.

lol

Maybe you are hiding behind that iceberg opposite me.

I wonder what time in antarctica would be like
I mean, walk a step and you gained a minute
run a mile and you lost an hour

Yeah I usually stick to one iceberg so that I stay in that timezone.

I see

8:04 PM
In the second line, where does (u+4) factor come from? Seems like it's replacing x^5? i.imgur.com/29HCt4z.png

Hello great one @waiting

@Jasper Hey there! How are you doing? :-)

Here comes the expert on limits, series, and integrals

@Waiting I feel happy when I see you, because it reminds me that one can do difficult things in life.

@Balarka math (especially number theory) is the end of all human activity, excuse me

8:10 PM
@Jasper hehe, now I'm really glad I'm of help. :-) Yes, we can!
3

@Daminark are you roasting math or roasting my trash comment on math, i'm really confused

@Hatshepsut sqrt(x^3-4) x^5 dx = sqrt(u) x^3 (1/3) (3x^2 dx) = sqrt(u) (u+4) (1/3) (du)

Daminark roasts everything and everyone :^)
2

^^

he roasts himself

8:11 PM
Especially myself

sniped

he roasts everyone that doesn't roast himself

lol

I responded to you @Balarka
Like I saw your message before I started typing

@Daminark Suuuuure

8:12 PM
Which isn't really sniping

;_; no love for russell

What's with the stars, lol. I thought only I star everything, lol.

no love deep russell

@Jasper See now I wanna create a shooting stars video with your picture on it :P

@Daminark Let me share with you the most important song in my life now...

@LeakyNun lol

Rip in gg

Thanks mr Wolfram

8:15 PM
i am sure W|A deduced that using A New Kind Of Science

Con Te Partiro will always be my favourite from Bocelli :3
kek

which brings us to the question, is math related to science?

Science exists to inspire the math that we use for number theory

Mathematics is an art, not a science. However, it serves science.

@Jasper, why did you choose to study mathematics?

8:17 PM
You know what else is art? Trolling is a art!

Math is trolling qed

memes are art of the postmodern age\

@AndreasAlmgren Because I love it. Why do you want to be with a girl? Because you love her. Same reason.

Thank you Jasper!

i study math because i hate that shitz
i want to crush math beneath my toes like those tiny insects

8:18 PM
You are always so intelligent in your commenting.

I appreciate your complement

But a follow up... @Jasper. Why do you love her?8

@BalarkaSen Compliment, not complement, in this case.

lol
English

nah this one is a complement

8:20 PM
I surely hope you do! @BalarkaSen

@AndreasAlmgren Love is something that is beyond words. There is no why.

I can accept that

@Jasper what's your specialty?

@LeakyNun None, I am only a banana.

A great yellow One

8:22 PM
@AndreasAlmgren I love Del Monte bananas. They are long and sweet.

@BalarkaSen do you lie when dealing with lie groups?

Hey, I am not as much of an expert in bananas as you are. Never heard of Del Monte bananas.

LOL.

I see you are from Sweden @AndreasAlmgren, seems to be a lovely place.

8:25 PM
@Balarka I may have asked you this before but what got you to choose Forster for the stuff?
(I've been told Donaldson and Miranda as well. If you don't know them then let's just do Forster)

I suppose that depends on what you compare it to... why do you think it to be a lovely place? @Jasper

@Daminark I have been recommended that book by multiple people; they say it's the lucidest introduction to Riemann surfaces.
And so far, it really feels nice

Lucid, lol sounds good
I did finally find a copy of Forster which is just 8MB so that's p dank

woo cool

The Riemann Surfaces course at my uni used Miranda

8:27 PM
i have a Springer copy of it if you want
fresh as new

And again it luckily seems to be less PDE-heavy

I was pretty satisfied with it

Oh I didn't think of that

want it?

@Steamy does Miranda take the more PDE/analytic viewpoint or is it more Algebra/cohomology?

8:28 PM
@AndreasAlmgren Well, from whatever I know about the various parts of the world. Culture, laws, climate, natural disasters, economy, etc. I don't have any exact statistics, but it is simply what I think and want to express now.

@BalarkaSen is math related to science

@Dodsy meth is the language of the universe

oic

@Balarka I'll try to see if I have it as well, if not I'll let you know

Ok, coolio

8:29 PM
@LeakyNun thanks

@SteamyRoot Yup, but I really wanted to do the uniformisation and Runge theorems, so I chose Forster's book instead.

@Daminark Well, I've never compared it to another book on the same subject, but it felt pretty algebraic
Don't remember any PDE's in there :P

I see

What are you guys doing this weekend?

@BalarkaSen lay it on me

8:30 PM
other than being little scamps.

@Jasper. No need for statistics :P

@Dodsy are there other things to do in life?

:D

If you guys want an extremely analytic book on Riemann surfaces, go for Napier and Ramachandran: Introduction to Riemann Surfaces.
It is a very new book and not well known yet, and is over 500 pages.

@Dodsy Getting asked out by a student :P

8:31 PM
@Dodsy Trying to survive the best I can through this miserable life. Yourself?

However, half the book is on the prerequisites.

:o

@Daminark Uploading shit. It's 18MB

@SteamyRoot wait wait whaaaa?

not too bad

8:31 PM
Okay one situation at a time:
@SteamyRoot dude.
@AndreasAlmgren cheer up!

@SteamyRoot warum studierst du mathematik?

Another very analytic book is Varolin: Riemann Surfaces by way of Complex Analytic Geometry.

@Balarka where should I receive it?

I was tapping on my irony a bit @Dodsy

@LeakyNun Bauchgefühl

8:32 PM
at your university email

Ah, good!

Sick

@SteamyRoot sprechen zie deutch?

Någon som kan prata svenska?

@Dodsy Ein bisschen.

8:33 PM
For once, someone speaks Swedish in this chat.

I can totally understand that sentence

@BalarkaSen I do know some Tamil curse words, lol.

@AndreasAlmgren @KasmirKhaan talar svenska

but the only Swedish I actually know is Va Fan :P

@SteamyRoot oh, wegen der leaky nun, ich denke du waren in Germany.

8:35 PM
@Dodsy ich mag Sprache lernen :)

@LeakyNun I spoke a bit with @KasmirKhaan a bit yesterday ; )

@LeakyNun Gut!

@AndreasAlmgren god

God?
You mean "bra"?

@LeakyNun as you can see, my german is spotty at best. :P

8:36 PM
So apparently Donaldson is more difftop-y, Forster is sheaf-theoretic, Miranda is more alg geo

@AndreasAlmgren heh

but my grandmother was born in germany and we speak german to each other sometimes.

I'm fine with any tbh, might use a mix

@Dodsy Ich bin Belgier, also Deutsch ist meine dritte Sprache

what is the difference? @AndreasAlmgren

8:36 PM
@Daminark And Napier/Ramachandran and Varolin are more analytic.

@Daminark sent

@SteamyRoot Ah, I see.
What is your second language then?

French

@SteamyRoot aber du sprichst es besser als uns :3

wow, crazy.
I hate french
Quebec french that is.
:P

8:38 PM
I know a few words of French, my dad said I sounded South African when I spoke it

daminark can rap in french

how does your dad know what South Africans speak like

Pourquoi me reveille o souffle du printemps

@Daminark It's totally fine if she already graduated from her Bachelor's degree and I won't be teaching/TA'ing her anymore, right? :P

That's a French aria, lol.

8:38 PM
Ha, Afrikaans is pretty much Dutch with the grammar thrown out the window

looks like @Jasper is about to sing for us

Oh I mean that totally works
@Steamy

@SteamyRoot until you realize that "you" in Dutch is "u".

@Balarka Dank(e)!

Bonjour, Je mapelle Dodsy.
je ne sais pas.

8:40 PM
@SteamyRoot Did you know that Andrea Bocelli sang Because We Believe with Marco Borsato in NL?

i guess the anagram for steamy's name becomes relevant now

This is all I know.

@BalarkaSen to the tune of FTL

"god" means either kind of "a kind person" or "tasty". "bra" means something that is "good" @LeakyNun

I took french for 5 years.

8:40 PM
@LeakyNun Only the polite variant

@AndreasAlmgren so "god dag" is a tasty day?

Kan ich haben ein baguette?

@Jasper Yup, was pretty great :D

lol, @Dodsy

French is hard @LeakyNun
german is much easier :)

8:41 PM
@LeakyNun I think that was just the stereotype when he was in France? That or he knows some such people

It depends on the situation you are using "god" in, you are using it wrongly @LeakyNun

Surprising that french windows are actually doors.

@Daminark That was meant for the other message and not about the Afrikaans, right? :P

@AndreasAlmgren svenska @_@

I need to quit

8:42 PM
the god memes are tasty, yes
2

Yup @Steamy

@AndreasAlmgren what language is this? Swedish?

@AndreasAlmgren Quit from what? You mean leave the chat?

@Dodsy right

hm interesting.

8:43 PM
@Balarka r/nocontext

And yet I still starred the comment @Daminark

@Daminark Good. Now just hope my colleagues and supervisor approve :^)

@SteamyRoot do you need their approval? Like if the person in question is no longer a student don't those considerations basically go down the drain?

@Daminark Well, technically she's still a student at the university since she'll be doing a Master's degree. But at a different campus.

Ah. I mean still doesn't sound like there's reason to be worried but sure I guess

8:46 PM
Yeah that standard bias considerations are not really a problem anymore
So that should be fine

How do you pronounce Sylow?

Is there an analytic inverse function theorem
See-lov @Leaky

people who can't pronounce "y" :c

[ ˈsyːlɔv])

If I'm being careful that is, oftentimes I just sat See-low

8:50 PM
@SteamyRoot right, both German and French have /y/

"Sigh low"

@Daminark yeah
you can prove it
(trying to analogize the proof for smooth functions is NOT the right approach)

You can probably do it similarly to real functions
Like just R to R

Suuh-lohv I guess.

Maybe with real part positive
Actually I should probably learn the open mapping theorem for complex functions first
That'll make life easier

8:54 PM
I like to think of the subspace of all complex functions generated by the basis $\{e^{kx} \mid k \in \Bbb C\}$
the derivative linear transformation preserves the basis elements very perfectly
nice linear DE's would be a linear algebra equation on said subspace

Me and gf bought baking powder and now it's missing :(
2
it costs like 5 bucks doods

♪ baking soda, i lost the baking soda ♪

Also can someone explain to me "cancellation equations"?
is it basically pointless?

@Dodsy What context?

perhaps stewart is simply restating a point in a stupid way?

8:58 PM
What's the context?
Ok, I got sniped

Nifty

is he just trying to say that if you put $f^{-1}(x)$ and $f(x)$ together you get x?

$f$ and $f^{-1}$ "cancel eachother out"

Yeah, they're defining inverse functions.

They are just saying that the inverse function cancels out the effect of the function.
