2.8 mill. They'll definitely break 3 mill before the marathon is over. I wonder if they'll beat the previous best.

It was good, but S1 was very confusing if you didn't read the books.

The first 2 books, on what S1 is based, is a bunch of short stories with the witcher. So it jumps around in time and you get it because every chapter is its own, separated story.

They should have framed it as Jaskier telling stories of the witcher and Yennefer and it would have removed so much confusion
@Wipqozn Cant believe he beat sekiro, blindfolded, in 2 hours flat.
@Wipqozn That was one of the best moments. He does an offhand comment about how the bulbausor speedrun takes half an hour more and some donations take it personally. He double downs and that was a GREAT decision. Him becoming a heel brought in so much money lol. But I think it broke his concentration on his run lol

I liked Witcher season 2. Apparently book fans want to murder showrunners after writing it or something though
Beat the hell out of the WOT adaptation

4:52 PM
@Fredy31 I think I missed what happened. Can I get a summary?

@Sterno Well, its been a few years that i read the books, but if I remember enough, its mostly that when he wrote the books it was invent as you go, and the series modified some things to place things better
Like the reveal about the king of the empire (that i cant remember the name rn) that is basically the cliffhanger of the season, well, Pretty sure that shit was only teased and in whispers only confirmed in the 5th or 6th book
And I will try to not spoil the reaveal, but lets just say i understand that its something easy to hide in books, but in a TV series hiding it would have been stupid hard

@Fredy31 Emperor Emhyr? Because if it is what I think it is, it's something front and center in Witcher 3

But hell does the canon of Witcher is crap. Like the games are not canon. They start after the second to last book (that was where the series was at when Witcher 1 started development) and then it goes in a complete different direction.
@Nzall It is front and center in the Witcher Games. But in the books its not revealed until VERY LATE in the books
if i remember right
been like 5-6 years since i read them
But yeah, the games take place after the books
except the last book, that is basically another canon

BTW, this bug in Edge where switching tabs randomly jumps that tab to your primary monitor is so annoying

and since the series is made with the author of the books, and of what i heard the author of the books hate the games, I guess the ending will be the books ending

5:00 PM
@Fredy31 AFAIK the author of the book doesn't so much hate the games as he hated how little he earned from them after their immense success

Yeah just reread things and yeah
the author basically took a lump sum and then he saw the games blow up
Sapkowski had to negotiate this deal with CD Projekt Red because he was too "stupid," he said, to believe the games could amount to anything when the developer first approached him. In an interview with Eurogamer, Sapkowski said CD Projekt Red initially offered him a percentage of The Witcher games' profits, but he refused, instead preferring a lump sum up front. He thought there would be no profits and expected nothing more out of the adaptation than "a big bag of money."
Sapkowski has since acknowledged CD Projekt Red's success and the quality of its games. Still, Sapkowski told Waypoint he believes his books made the games popular outside of his and CD Projekt Red's home country of Poland, not the other way around,
Ha sure bud
If your books were so popular then why did it take about 10 years (in which the games were released) for the books to come out in english?
@Nzall Was working but didn't get the whole story, but I think early on in the run they were talking about the Red/Blue speedruns, and he did an offhand comment as that Bulbusaur sucks because the speedrun categ where he is picked as a starter is 30 minutes longer than Charmander or Squirtle.
Bulbasaur fans donated like SAY SORRY
he doubled down (in a joke manner) and the train left the station. Then there was a donation that wanted AN APOLOGY TO BULBASAUR and he put it that if they reached the major milestone that was upcoming that was like 150k away, he would.
they reached it

5:32 PM
@Fredy31 lul
I remember when the first Witcher game came out. Never heard of the books and thought the name "The Witcher" was the dumbest thing ever

The Witcher (Polish: Wiedźmin, pronounced [ˈvʲɛd͡ʑmʲin]) is a series of six fantasy novels and 15 short stories written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series revolves around the eponymous "witcher," Geralt of Rivia. In Sapkowski's works, "witchers" are beast hunters who develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle wild beasts and monsters. The Witcher began with a titular 1986 short story that Sapkowski entered into a competition held by Fantastyka magazine, marking his debut as an author. Due to reader demand, Sapkowski wrote 14 more stories before starting a series of novels...
And then compare to the games: 2007-2011-2015

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that the games made the books well-known, not the other way around

There is a small corellation of dates
Especially since I consider that the witcher triology really blew up on witcher 2. the demand for the books definitely made them be translated in english from there
Witcher 1-2-3 has the same progression as Persona 3-4-5

Persona 3: Some people played it, but VERY niche.
Persona 4: More people played it, and it did pretty decent.
Persona 5: EVERYBODY CANT SHUT UP ABOUT IT

I tried to get into Persona 5
but it's just a lot of talking

yeah
its a very slow opening
and its basically playing a dating game 75% of the time, and sometimes dungeons to play
Really I played 4 and 5 and I prefer 4 rn
idk the 'building a friend circle and throwing yourself in danger' feels better in 4 than 5

5:44 PM
That was my problem with the latest Fire Emblem too
talk talk talk talk friendship simulator talk talk talk OH A FIGHT

probably more because in 4 you save people, while in 5 you are going after some bad guys
you might be like my SO. Very slow building stories bore them
Like she couldnt stand LOTR

I'm okay with it in books or movies
but I want to play games, not read them
(I mean, lots of text can be fine. I love a lot of CRPGs)
but the first two hours being running around talking to random NPCs will make me tune out

@Sterno That's why I haven't gotten around to playing it yet. I miss when Fire Emblem was just fights instead of a waifu simulator.
@Sterno Yeah exactly.
I read books for story. I play games for gameplay.
Every so often it occurs to me that I'mpretty sure I'm ther same age @Sterno was when we started making old jokes and it makes me feel old

You're younger but as you get older the difference in age that actually matters goes way up

@wipqoldn

5:51 PM
@Sterno Oh good

You've got like 1-2 years making a difference up until about 16, then it's 16-18, then 18-21, then 21-25, then 25-30, and then after that you're in decade long gaps or so
Like after 30, no one really gives a fuck about age until you're so old you're getting discounts at the theater

yeah it's true

Had a new hire at works ask me what the movie Aliens was about
:(

@Sterno ...
"Yeah... I don't think it's gonna work out"

@Sterno That's basically the exact joke Peter Park makes in Infinity War
"You ever see this really old movie aliens?"

6:50 PM
@Wipqozn Wasn't that a reference to Civil War, when he made the same joke about Star Wars?
Thing is, it's normal that pop culture shifts and that things that we grew up with and loved when we were younger are just irrelevant for us now. Like, it might sound absurd, but when I look up a top 10 list of games released in 1991 (when I was 1 year old), I only recognize 3 of them, haven't played any. In 1992, I recognize them all, even played some of them

7:31 PM
@Nzall Which were those 10 games? I'm curious.,

@Wipqozn thetoplister.wordpress.com/2013/09/28/… was the list I consulted, though honestly, there is so much subjectivity with art that nearly every list is flawed

@Nzall I just wnated to see how many games I recognized

I recognized Pilot Wings, FFIV, Sid Meier's Civ 1, Super Mario World

@Nzall Out of this World is the only one I'm not familiar with. Therefore, I am more cultured then you.

I've heard of eight of those (everything but Wonder Boy and Bonk's Revenge) but have played zero of them, and "heard of" here includes things like "saw it on the speedrun at AGDQ once" or "listened to a remix of one of its tracks".
