@Wipqozn I love how FF14 works, but god damn is the early world seemingly empty. I love how Play Frame puts it: FF14 is like an excellent series, but the first season you have to get through is garbage.

(Hes playing through the story to show it, trimming the fat of all sidequests and job quests)

But yeah I got to the 2nd major city in FF14 and stopped; was I close to where it opens up?

@Fredy31 The game really starts to open up at around level 30

Note that the first 3 cities you visit are just the starting cities for the different classes. At level 14 or so everyone starts to do the same content when you learn about the Scions of the Seventh Dawn

But yeah when PlayFrame's Dan described it as 'a good show with a very bad first season' I felt that. I always wanted to make my SO watch Dr. Who but the first season of the reboot is... very bad. And you need to watch it or you will be lost for Tennant's first at least 2 seasons

IDK if its just that i'm sick of MMOs or its just that FF14 startup is rough

@Fredy31 To be clear: the main draw of FFXIV is the story, not the quest design

At around level 30 is when the story starts picking up and you really learn about the true villains of the series

Yeah that is what made me think it was more of a 'i'm not an MMO person anymore'

because except the 'cutscene quests' I found myself just being 'IDGAF'

Might try again during christmas break. I'll be off work but my SO will work, so full days to myself

@Fredy31 Around level 30, the game truly starts to be an RPG with MMO mechanics rather than an MMO with RPG mechanics

Also I guess that the class I picked (mage) I don't really like. I guess at level 30 is where the multiclass thing starts too

@Fredy31 the free version is literally the base game plus the first expansion, no restrictions at all

@Fredy31 not exactly multiclass, but at level 30 you unlock the upgrade to your class, what's called a Job.

With it comes stuff like better spells, more complicated resources and the likes

Can't wait to play it when I get home today.

In other news though, I've been listening to the Arcane OST nonstop this week.

and yeah, no Free Company

that's probably the biggest restriction

No marketboard access or trading either but that's to be expected.

But even still, it's pretty critically-acclaimed.
