ANYONE WANT TO PLAY MANN VERSUS MACHINE WITH ME?

@John OMG NO

@spugsley WHY NOT?
IS IT THAT BAD?

@John CAUSE DIABLO

@spugsley BUT ROBOTS

@John NO

12:05 AM
@spugsley SPUGLY PLZ

@John NOW IT'S EXTRA NO

@spugsley :(

For any DayZ fans.

@Fluttershy That game seems very very devious.

@John For the most part it's kill on sight. <_< If I see another player, I will kill him... Or try to anyway.

12:17 AM
mutters
@Fluttershy I call bullshit
Running all that way and not one single zombie anywhere?

@James I've done it before.

@Fluttershy Run through an entire town and not seen a single zombie?

@James Through a dock area like that one, yeah.

@Fluttershy Yeah the dock was fine but when he ran in land and started down the road with out seeing a single zombie bullshit o meter went off :)

@james You missed some of the "pretends" in your edit!

12:26 AM
@Sterno Damnit! i shall investigate further, those two were the ones I saw :)

Hi chat.

I was editing at the same time. "Unneffective" was bothering me.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Good evening, Mr. Fizz.

@Sterno Haha, Niice :)
@John How rude to take Chat's hello.. sheesh!

@James Okay, fine. @OrigamiRobot! @LessPop_MoreFizz says hi!

12:28 AM
@James We Are All Chat. Chat is One. Chat is Many.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I thought chat was one of @OrigamiRobot's processes?

@LessPop_MoreFizz Ia Chat!

@John Chat is All Encompassing.

@LessPop_MoreFizz That's deep.

Kickstarter keeps taking all my money.
If you google "Sound off like you've got a pair", this picture shows with the 5th hit.
It frightens me.

12:35 AM
@Sterno Have you kicked money at SolForge yet?

@LessPop_MoreFizz No no no, people need to stop telling me about Kickstarters! I just dropped $100 on some Reaper minis
sighs and enter SolForge into the search bar

@Sterno New deckbuilding card game for computers and iThings by the people that made Ascension in partnership with RICHARD FUCKING GARFIELD.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I might be safe on this one. The appeal to me is that it's free to play, and Kickstarting it would be the opposite of free!
If I shell out enough for the reward of, say, a starter deck, I'll be hooked and want to buy more when the game comes out. Sneaky bastards.

I have to say I Was hugely surprised when the Shadowrun Online kickstarter jumped like 150,000 in funding in its last 2 days
Alllmost like someone working at the company kicked in the remainder of the money just so theywouldnt lose what they had already raised :P

@James I fail to see the problem with that tbqh.

12:39 AM
I will say however.. was awesome they got D'Hoffryn to do those videos :D

If the money is committed the money is comitted.
Personally I'm just glad that I helped bring Chris Avellone on board with Wasteland 2

@LessPop_MoreFizz Just seems not in 'good faith' so to speak.

Q: Is an assassin ineffective without improved weapons?

RamirezI'm planning to make an assassin and won't improve my armor since I don't intend to get attacked. I roleplay a Khajiit assassin that doesn't know anything about smithing, so I don't want to smith at all. I don't know if the daggers sold by NPCs will be enough to one-hit people with the 15x perk....

Q: What improvements are available for apartments?

kotekzotIn Sleeping Dogs, you can purchase improvements for your apartments. So far I've found a new bed, a sound system, a bird and AC in the Night Market for the North Point apartment and a furniture package at K-Bar for the Central Apartment.

@MarkTrapp It keeps telling me you changed this, but I see no changes!

@Sterno Are you seeing Revision 8?

12:41 AM
Also, for anyone curious and especially for those who weren't, at around 3 months, baby farts change from previously-odorless to that's-got-to-be-a-war-crime.

@Fluttershy Yeah. but it tells me he edited it 8 min ago
whereas the revision says 5 hours ago

Oh...
It's showing 5 hours for me

Make that 22 min ago
Front page says 22 min, post itself says 5 hours

@Sterno Did he edit a deleted post, perhaps?

12:46 AM
@John Negative.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Hm. I always assumed phantom changes were to deleted posts. This changes everything.

@Sterno It was reopened 22 minutes ago.

Maybe the reopen was...
yeah that

"Post Reopened by fredley, Mark Trapp, bwarner, Ben Brocka, Sterno
occurred 27 mins ago"
Can I capture my cursor in a screenshot? O_o Or my mouse pointer?

12:52 AM
@Fluttershy The default Ubuntu screencap tool supports this.

@John Nevermind! I just shared my screen on Skype. =P

@Fluttershy That works too :P

user2334
@Sterno Looks like the auto CW conversion event, which is attributed to the last editor before said event, collapses into the reopen event for the purposes of question lists. idkmybffjill bug report that

@LessPop_MoreFizz Welp. Not like I was using that wallet.

Why didn't mine do that :/
Oh I didn't see the 11% more fire damage taken.

1:05 AM
Hrm, how long should it take Steam to install .NET 3.5?

user2334
10 femtoyears.

Good, I was worried something was wrong.

user2334
Huh, I thought femto- was a very large scalar prefix. 10 femtoyears is actually 3.15 x 10^-7 seconds

@MarkTrapp Pretty sure it's e-8, not e-7
Go for petayears

user2334
1 femtoyear is 10^-8, 10 would be 10^-7

Q: How can I tell the difference between old and new Legendaries?

OrigamiRobotIn patch 1.0.4, lots of Legendary/Set items received an upgrade. However, this upgrade was not applied to existing items. In the Auction House, these items are differentiated between when searching by adding [LEGACY] to the end of the legendary name and new Set items have new names altogether. ...

3.15569e7 seconds in a year, *10^-15 for femto, comes out to *10^-8
But I'm bad with this kind of math, so I'm going to stop because I'm probably wrong anyway.

user2334
@StrixVaria Right, that's 1 femtoyear. I said 10 femtoyears

@Fluttershy If he isn't, I am.

@OrigamiRobot And if he is? Are you still?

@OrigamiRobot I need a more experienced LoL player. <_<

@John No.
@Fluttershy Ouch. Message Received.

@OrigamiRobot I see.

1:27 AM
@Fluttershy I would like to agree with your frustration and propose a solution of killallminecrafts.exe

@RilgonArcsinh About all of the mod tags?

@Fluttershy Well mine is more with Minecraft in general
Or more accurately, people that host minecraft servers and are self-obsessed megalomaniacs that think they need RAID 5'd Intel 710s and 32GB of RAM for fucking minecraft

@RilgonArcsinh I'm not really following... <_<

What I am saying is that I believe our frustrations are similar enough that we can prove to be valuable allies

yo...yo man...are you saying...are you...you saying...

I'm saying.

I already said it!

Well I'm saying it better.

Q: How do attribute/stat increases scale after level 60 (Paragon levels)?

Sean Every Paragon level will reward you with: Core stats such as Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Vitality in amounts similar to what you’d gain from a normal level; 3% Magic Find and 3% Gold Find1 I can't find a decent explanation on how these core stats scale for each level. SeanDo experience bonuses from rubied helms and helmets work for post-level 60 Paragon experience? How do rubied helms affect Paragon experience gain?

Derp
@Lazers Do we REALLY need questions specific to Paragon? It works exactly like it does for regular experience.

@fbueckert Sounds like the answer to me :)

@James Yeah, but I'm pretty sure we already HAVE experience questions.
Such as:

Q: Monster kills +X experience

Richard Neil IlaganDoing solo, this is fairly straightforward. With the monster kills +X experience property, this will add X experience points per monster killed. How does this work in multi play however? Do I have to kill the monsters myself, or is "monster kill" meant to be global (i.e. does it give me the expe...

Q: Extra experience from equipment

user27159I would like to know what happens if I wear 2 or more items that reward extra experience per kill. For example, a helmet that adds 5% extra experience and a ring that adds 8% extra experience. What is the final extra experience I gain? 5%? 8%? 13%?

2:32 AM
@fbueckert I think this question should be expanded to include Paragon just like the attibutes question was

@OrigamiRobot I concur.
As I said, we don't need questions to be specific to Paragon.

I'm having trouble seeing how this is supposedly the spiritual successor to Diablo 2

@Sterno Unless that enemy drops a new set of claws for Wolverine, I don't see how that work.

@fbueckert Claw polish. And hair gel

And I don't think Wolverine would use the new set, anyways; he barely survived getting his current set.

But… Hugh Jackman is Wolverine!

wouldn't it be hilarious if 1.04 is just Blizzard massively trolling us?
like....they didn't actually make any of these awesome changes. It's just shit they made up during a meeting
like "Oh, fuck yes. They'll love that idea. That'll definitely shut them up for awhile."

Lazers should learn to friggin' not send me stuff with tags from my ignore list.

MartinSojka should learn to friggin' tolerate Lazers more when it sends you stuff on your ignore list.

Today I learned that just because a game runs on Android it doesn't mean my computer GPU can run it at more than three frames per second T_T

@badp congrats, learn something new everyday and all that

Uh ... just because Crysis is a Windows game doesn't mean it'll run on my WinXP Mobile Celeron 2 laptop either ...

8:19 AM
@MartinSojka You'd assume Android GPUs sucked, what with being inside a mobile draining its battery
Turns out my overheating piece of crap directly chained to the wall plug still can't come close to matching that power

@badp What gpu do you have? I've tried to run Android games on a Behold II (600 MHz single core cpu), wasn't fun to watch :(

@Alok nVidia GeForce 9200M iirc

Uh you're actually talking of running them on an emulator in actual PC then

I'm not currently the envy of anybody however
@Alok No

Thought you actually meant a phone gpu

8:22 AM
I'm talking about the Windows ports in the Humble Indie Bundle
(more specifically the port of Fieldrunners)

Ah. Well, idk about the bundle but 'ports' can have plenty of problems if not done right :/

I wouldn't expect to find such a port on Steam...

Also, iirc some of the newer games that ask for DX 10 etc. actually use those features; so if there is no hardware support they run very badly

heh, I even have DirectX 11 installed right now
and apparently my GPU supports DirectX 10.0 natively
wait, that's the driver

8:40 AM
@MarkTrapp: I'm not arguing for or against the usefulness of the question, so kindly stop bringing it up. I'm only correcting your mistake about how easy, legit, legal and often it is happening that people play older versions of Minecraft.

user2334
@MartinSojka Which you've misquoted me on twice now: please stop it. Nobody's arguing that people don't downgrade. The only thing up for discussion is whether the questions should be closed as too localized.

@MarkTrapp How the hell can I misquote you when I copy & pasted your text?

user2334
@MartinSojka You didn't! You added crap to it

user2334
> "Nobody is going to play Minecraft in a version before rail boosters came out." - this is the claim I'm arguing against.

user2334
I never said that

user2334
8:44 AM
> "'I want to play Minecraft, but before boosters came out' [that is: Beta 1.4 or earlier] is a contrived situation that fits Joel's "too localized" to a tee. Nobody is going to be doing it because [untrue claims]".

user2334
I never said that either. You added the brackets

No, you said exactly that part without the brackets.

user2334
You're grasping at something that I never claimed and has nothing to do with the problem at hand

The first one clarifies which version of Minecraft is the one "before boosters came out"
It isn't changing the quote, just clarifying the context.

user2334
@MartinSojka without the brackets. You added that crap. Stop adding words into what i said. I chose what I wrote carefully. I've explained to you what it was in reference to. I don't understand why you're being obtuse, but I'm done. You obviously have no intention of contributing to the discussion, so there's no point

8:46 AM
The second one abbreviates your arguments, which are simply wrong. The whole is: "because you have to try to find a copy of Minecraft from over a year ago (no small feat, since it's against the EULA to redistribute the game binaries) and the game's culture is based on its constant development: the answer to the question now is "

user2334
@MartinSojka No, it's misquoting. I know what I said, it's there. You decided to project whatever onto it. I've already clarified for you what it was in reference to

1. "you have to try to find a copy of Minecraft from over a year ago (no small feat" is wrong since there are multiple, known and popular tools to do that.
2. ".. since it's against the EULA to redistribute the game binaries" is not wrong, but neither it is applicable to what the tools are doing, so a non-sequitur.
3. "the game's culture is based on its constant development" misses the fact that the game's culture is based on constant modding, sharing of (adventure-style) maps and similar as well, and not every mod and not every map work with the newest version of the game.
So, basically: "[untrue claims]"

user2334

@MarkTrapp This summarizes my work day to present.

user2334
@MartinSojka "Nobody is going to be doing it", as I've already told you, is not "Nobody is going to be using a pre-booster-fix version of Minecraft". It's a response to murgatroid positing the hypothetical of people Googling for answers about how to set up a booster track. Nobody is going to be [Googling for answers about how to set up a booster track.]" That's what it's in reference to.

user2334
8:55 AM
I made no claims about whether people downgrade. It's not relevant to the problem. The problem is only about whether these questions are useful now that they're obsolete

@MarkTrapp Did you miss the part of your claims which I'm arguing against? The ones I replaced with "[untrue claims]"? Those are wrong.
And, again - I'm not discussing the usefulness or lack of it of the question.

user2334
@MartinSojka Did you miss the fact that you've misquoted me twice to argue some straw man about how there are, in fact, people who downgrade?

user2334
@MartinSojka Great, because that's what the rest of us are discussing. You're contributing nothing to the conversation and tilting at windmills.

user2334
So continue to argue until you're blue in the face about whatever slight you've imagined about people downgrading Minecraft, it's completely irrelevant

I don't imagine anything. I showed how your claims are wrong; since your argument is based on those claims, they can't prove it. Your argument might be right, but not for the reasons you cite.

user2334
9:02 AM
You've imagined claims that don't exist. I've explained to you at least a half-dozen times what I'm claiming. The only thing I'm claiming is that people downgrading to a pre-booster-fix version of Minecraft and then looking for answers about how to use boosters is a contrived situation. I never made the claim that people don't downgrade: you made that up.

"you have to try to find a copy of Minecraft from over a year ago (no small feat, since it's against the EULA to redistribute the game binaries)" are your words or not? Did you claim this or not?

user2334
Again, since you seem to be unable to comprehend anything beyond your own straw man, my claim is that people downgrading to a pre-booster-fix version of Minecraft and then looking for answers about how to use boosters is a contrived situation. I've never claimed that people don't downgrade.

... so that's a "yes, I wrote that"?

user2334
Do you not understand the meta question is about whether the questions murgatroid listed should be closed?

user2334
Or is this something you do when you're bored, just make shit up and get all pissed about it?

9:11 AM
I understand the question. If I had anything to say about it which wasn't said better by others already, I'd write a comment to the question or an answer.
You still wrote the sentence above, did you not?

user2334
@MartinSojka So injecting yourself into discussions you care nothing about, misquoting people and crying outrage is something you just do for fun, then?

user2334
Seems like an exhausting hobby

@MarkTrapp I care about the question, I copy and pasted your text, multiple times now (with reference so everyone can read it fully by themselves if they care to), and I'm not crying outrage, I'm trying to calmly and logically show you which of your claims is factually wrong.

user2334
@MartinSojka No, you haven't. You've made quotes up and you've added crap to quotes I've said to prove some point that nobody is arguing against. I've repeatedly told you what I've claimed, yet you choose to ignore that.

user2334
Not only is nobody arguing against it, it's completely irrelevant to the discussion, which you have no interest in

9:18 AM
@MarkTrapp You made several claims, not just one. I don't argue against any but the one I quoted above: "you have to try to find a copy of Minecraft from over a year ago (no small feat, since it's against the EULA to redistribute the game binaries)", which means it can't be used as an argument to prove some other claim.

user2334
@MartinSojka It's not being used as an argument for the claim I'm making. I don't know how many times I have to say it, but I NEVER SAID THAT PEOPLE DON'T DOWNGRADE.

user2334
Perhaps if, instead of looking for fights where there are none, you got involved in the actual discussion, that might make more sense to you

WAIT
am I missing a fun conversation?
reads

And yes, I have an interest in the discussion as a whole. The results will have an influence on way more than just this Minecraft question - there are several games I like to play where people deliberately play older versions, sometimes very old versions: EU3, Dwarf Fortress, ...
@MarkTrapp You said people have a hard time getting an older version of Minecraft.

user2334
@MartinSojka That's great: provide some data demonstrating questions about obsolete versions of games are useful. Right now, the only data we have indicates that's not the case. But if you have data that suggests otherwise, that'd go a long way to changing the current policy of closing questions as too localized once the questions become obsolete

9:24 AM
If we don't want to close out-of-date questions as too localized, I am perfectly fine with outright deleting them

@MarkTrapp I don't have the access to the server access logs necessary to prove or disprove such.

but leaving out-of-date questions without any marker onto them or a "meta-answer" stating the question no longer applies to the current state of things doesn't sound like a good idea to me
especially the "meta-answer" bit
if you're specifically asking about older questions "this doesn't apply to the current version" is not an answer

@badp That's why I revisit my older answers (as well as answers to the games in my favourite tags list) now and then to add such information when necessary.

user2334
@badp From looking at the low quality feedback list, that seems to have been what was happening anyway, and that's in-line with the rest of the network. I feel partially responsible for percolating this: I mentioned off-hand that obsolete questions were closed as too localized which I guess got people thinking

The only negative thing about deleting questions is that it doesn't feel good to remove correct (although hardly relevant) information from the internet
I'd rather keep it there but... marked. Somehow

user2334
9:27 AM
There's the historical lock, which is what it was intended for (questions that are obsolete but you want to keep around due to sentimentality) but eh. That has baggage

Like, this one. I need to recheck the current DF version if there is anything new I could add to the answer, but until then, it is correctly labelled with the version it pertains to:

@MartinSojka I appreciate your effort but I have way too many answers to really do that </lazy>
I've also kind of lost touch with Minecraft in the last few months so I don't even know what applies and does not apply anymore

user2334
If a question gets closed and eventually gets improved to be applicable, it can be reopened and the system works. If it never gets improved, the question stays closed and the system works

user2334
The chance that a closed question could eventually get improved I guess is the deterrent against deletion of obsolete questions

user2334
9:34 AM
A time limit of 6 months on obsolete-by-new-version questions before deletion may be in order

user2334
Or whatever n months

@badp It helps that most of my favourite tags have less than 10 questions currently. ;)

Q: Minecraft Technic Pack - Respawn/Blank inventory

AgentFaceI have a recurring issue in the Technic Pack whereby occasionally when I load up my world (usually after the computer having been shut down for some time) my inventory is wiped and I am placed on the overworld spawn. The rest of the world will be exactly how I left it, except that I am standing a...

@Fluttershy whassup?

Meh, I hate it when some questions have a perfectly nice and up-voted answer, but no accepted one. Bad question askers! Bad!

11:11 AM
Looking through the edit history page, been a lot of these lately

Good thing editing comments is locked so quickly and random procedurally generated answers (with the idea to update them later to include the links for SEO tricks) usually get too much attention and get flagged as "not useful" or "not an answer" or similar.

I do more work when I work from home than when I work from work
-.-

@RavenDreamer I was gonna get your opinion on this question. When it was first asked, I wasn't sure whether or was answerable. But it apparently has an answer now. >_>

@YiJiang That edit is going to drive me up a wall, it should be "Why don't", not "Why doesn't". D:
(Or, for less conjunction horror, "Why do my pre-Optics units not have the Embark promotion?")

11:26 AM
Huh... I accidentally that sentence... <_<

It's a good answer, too, I'm surprised/pleased.
Speaking of questions that feel unanswerable/too localized:

Q: What build does Diamondprox most typically use for his jungle Udyr?

DecencyI watched the finals of Gamescom recently and with the rise of aggressive Oracles on junglers brought about by M5, LoL was for the first time actually interesting to watch for me. (On a side note, I read a great article about this happening at a past tournament that I can't find anymore?) I know...

Q: The new pet system for the Witch Doctor

TheGateKeeperhave you seen thew new changes done to the Witch Doctor pets? They basically gave them a shield that limits the maximum damage they can take per hit, and this max damage is based on the player's armor and resistances. Click here for more information. I have 2 questions regarding this matter. D...

FML
for real?
EDIT I am "kindascrewedbyblizzard" user and I have more to add to this. While you all abused me and told me how stupid I am and know nothing about security. Many of you also claimed that blizzard "could not be independently compromised" a statement, which still baffles me... Please see us.blizzard.com/en-us/securityupdate.html - It turns out it can be "independently compromised", convenient and of course they don't mention where/how the breach occured.

@pixel Wait, what?

it's in the review queue

He doesn't understand what's going on at all.

I just removed the rant and approved the marginally useful part.

I'm still gobsmacked that they haven't emailed people about that.

@RilgonArcsinh It would only land in spam filters as yet another phishing attempt.

Or required people to change their login credentials before logging into Battle.net properties.
@MartinSojka Not really? I've never had an actual legitimate account notice be filtered.

I did (though not from Battle.NET, since I don't have an account there), but of course it wasn't a problem since I initiated those and knew to expect them.

My point is, there are people who no longer play WoW and are not actively monitoring news about it that could still not be aware their credentials need to be changed
and that their credentials/secret question+answer are compromised and may need to be changed elsewhere
And that's ridiculously sloppy of Blizzard, especially when compared to Trion's handling of a samesuch breach.

I didn't mean to provoke a discussion about how bad Blizzard is

Don't you say that every time? :P (I kid, I kid.)

Rock, Paper, Shotgun is read by over 92% of the Earth’s population, and our most frequent readers are in the top 15% most attractive people on Earth! Yes, we all love statistics we don’t provide any evidence for. There’s so much fun to be had. Ubisoft have also been revelling in that fun, by telling GI.biz that they experience “93-95% piracy” rates. Which is odd, what with all their boasting that their always-awful DRM has been so darned effective at combating piracy. How incredibly confusing!

maybe if they combated piracy by making good games
2

@pixel And didn't treat their PC customers like third class citizens.

@pixel Oh snap!

Ok, so AC:Revelations shipped 7M copies. Let's say, 5M sold. And they have a 93% piracy rate at the minimum, which means that 5M/0.07 = at least 71M people got it illegally.
Possibly as high as 7M/0.05 = 140M.
... best game evar!

Was Ubisoft the company that experimented with introducing crash bugs in pirated versions?

12:40 PM
shame it managed to spill over to the legit copies

Because if so, maybe the 'piracy rate' is out of total number of times their game was played - as in someone clicked the actual executable.
Pirates have to reopen it 19 times as often as legit players! QED, 95% Piracy!
Things That Suck: Not being able to go to work until the UPS dude shows up.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Do you mean FADE and similar?
FADE (or DEGRADE) is digital rights management software developed by Macrovision. It operates by detecting if a game has been pirated, and initially allows the player to use the game normally. It then gradually degrades certain game features over a time, eventually rendering it unplayable. How it works FADE creates fake scratches in specific areas on the disk image. When the disk image is copied, the program used to copy it will notice these scratches and automatically fix them. The game's master program then looks for these scratches, and if they are present then it is an original. I...

FADE worked so well, Bohemia Interactive finally got fed up with it and patched ArmA II to be DRM-free instead. ;)

@RilgonArcsinh Oh yay, Engrish fail
@RilgonArcsinh Is Embarkation actually a promotion?
I've only played Civ 5 a bit but I don't remember it been a promotion automatically granted to new units

Embarkation requires the tech that allows you to travel in dark water

Q: MVM mode's item drop rate

AntoSince the Mann Up mode alterates the item drop rate somehow, I'd like to know how the "regular" Mann versus Machine's drop system works. Is it working like for any other map or mode ? Or is the drop rate reduced, for instance ? From my personnal experience, so far I dropped two random items a...

Q: What is the best way to get a specific neighbor to move back into a town in Animal Crossing Wild World

EcnalyrMelba was her favorite character and, by some oversight, she let the character move out of her town a couple of years ago. She has played a number of in-game years doing nothing (she is near 100% completion) but trying to get Melba to move back in. She really wants this to happen. I have read ...

Q: What happens when you lose vision of a unit lifted by a phoenix?

tenfourImagine in a PvP your phoenix lifts an enemy DT. Your observer moves away though and the DT becomes cloaked while lifted. Does it remain lifted? Can it be attacked? What happens to it?

Hang on, is that "been" or "being"?
I'm on a roll here

@YiJiang Yeah, it is actually a promotion that shows up once you research Optics and (if created pre-Optics) once you move into friendly territory.
I'm almost positive that the benefit that lets you embark through ocean tiles is a samesuch promotion, and has the same "move into friendly territory post-Astronomy" clause.

12:57 PM
@RilgonArcsinh Ah, interesting. Well, you're like this close to edit privs. Why not make the suggestion?
Also, thank goodness I didn't edit the last title to "How does Mann Up mode effect item drop rate?" :D
