Q: Can Guild Wars 2 run in a late 2008 MacBook Pro?

AMBARI've recently started playing Guild Wars 2 on a PC, but I was wondering if it will still work on an 8 GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo processor Macbook Pro from late 2008? It has a 6 year old Nvidia graphics card (the original one that came with the laptop). Thank you in advance!

Q: search items necessary to charge a playstation 3

user3163829I have an original playsation 3. My question is what technology do i need to buy on ebay, so that this playstation 3 has power. I have the actual ps3, and the hdmi cable, but nothing to power it. As a sub-question, does the ps3 slim power equipment work the same for the original ps3?

6:17 PM
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh
The Bradford Pears are in bloom

Hayfever?
I noticed it first thing I stepped outside this morning =[

No, they stink
They smell like a dead, rotting animal

Ooh fancy
Like a corpse flower?

I've never smelled one of those

Same, but well, they are named for their smell

Q: My industry is suddenly abanding buildings due to a lack of workers

John DoeRather suddenly my industry district started to look like this, with a lot of buildings abandoned: If I check the buildings, the stated reason for abandoning is a lack of workers. I looked at the city statistics, but I can't see any reason for the sudden lack of workers: The number of jobs ...

> To what shall I compare the fragrance? Certain bodily fluids come to mind, on which I shall not elaborate. However, I think most people would be reminded of a fish that’s been sitting out way too long. Flounder, perhaps? Tuna? Mullet, salmon, or mackerel?
Every single year I wonder why they are planted everywhere.

Because they're pretty!

THERE ARE OTHER PRETTY THINGS THAT DON'T STINK

But but... pretty :(

Boom, replacement pretty

6:29 PM
Not as pretty
Pretty though

They are just as pretty!

you're just as pretty.
wait.

"Shall I compare thee to a tree which occasionally smells like rotten fish" doesn't have quite the same ring

@Rapitor Flattery will get you nowhere

6:35 PM
Except with @Wipqozn, that guy is a sucker for flattery, and the handsomest

6:56 PM
caution: image contains spider crab

That is one large crab

@KevinvanderVelden I am really handsome! Thank you!

OK, I'M GOING TO TRY CITIES AGAIN TONIGHT
AFTER I PRACTICE IN ROCKSMITH

@OrigamiRobot You should make this:

WHICH IS AMAZING BTW

7:02 PM
Specifically, the third one.

@OrigamiRobot It is
I should hook up my amplifier so I can use it again
(I have a acoustic guitar with a pickup (a microphone for instruments) - it is not at all registered by rocksmith)

@KevinvanderVelden THE LESSONS ARE VERY INTUITIVE IMO
AND THE PACING ON TRACKS SEEMS VERY GOOD
"I SEE YOU'RE DOING WELL HERE. LET'S THROW IN SOME MORE STUFF. UH OH, THAT'S TOO MUCH. IT'S OK, WE'LL BACK OFF FOR NOW"
@KevinvanderVelden I COULD NEVER DO ACOUSTIC BECAUSE THEY ARE SO GIANT

I got this one from my dad who can't play guitar anymore after he had an accident

How much do you have to feed something into the spam filter before it starts taking action? Anyone know?

7:14 PM
What spam filter?

@KevinvanderVelden The site's.

Oh, I think that's secret

We've been getting an awful lot of vandalizing suggested edits lately.
I'm curious as to when it starts taking action, as I've been feeding it quite a few posts that all seem to be of the same junk.

Oh wait, maybe it's because I haven't added a main() yet.

user15026
The only bad part about a new phone is having to get your stuff all set up again

7:23 PM
@AshleyNunn Yeah, that sucks.

@MBraedley the other ones though? =/

I'm going to be getting a new one soon, because work will provide one.

@KevinvanderVelden I've seen it before, and it's a pain in the ass to fix.

Which means I'm going to need to figure out how to transfer all my savegames and everything to the new one.

@StrixVaria - My 200K would make my city the fourth largest city in NY State. NYC is such a massive outlier.

user15026
7:25 PM
@Frank I am just giving up on that

@Wipqozn woah woah, I need to figure out how to do this next time I'm playing the game!

@AshleyNunn Bleh. That sucks.

user15026
there is nothing I was playing that I will really be sad over

user15026
and I still have the old phone if I really want

user15026
@Frank I just dont care enough

7:26 PM
@AshleyNunn It makes sense; the first time I did it, yeah, I didn't care, either.
But this is going to be the second time in a year I'll be switching.

@Frank I'm assuming the savegames aren't saved on the SD card?

It's going to be a useful skill to know if this keeps up.
@Chippies My current phone doesn't have a removable one.

@Frank Yuck!

user15026
@Frank ah, then that's a little different

@Chippies The Nexus line. The things you do for unlocked phones.

7:27 PM
@JasonBerkan NYC isn't even my main basis for comparison, but I guess NJ is super densely populated.
I just figured the "cutoff" for city was 1 million people.
Although that's kind of a silly thought.

@StrixVaria Though NY State is odd. There are towns with 200K - 700K population.

@Frank Do all Nexus models don't have removable SD cards or just your specific model?

@Chippies Both my Nexus 4, and now the Nexus 5, don't.

@Frank That's a bummer

@JasonBerkan Right, this is kind of what I meant. 200k didn't seem to qualify as "city" for me. The suburban town I grew up in had 50k, and that's not even remotely approaching city.

user15026
7:28 PM
@Frank It only costs me $25 to unlock my phone from my carrier, so I don't really care

user15026
@Chippies I am so happy my new phone has SD expansion storage :D

@AshleyNunn It also has a stock Google OS. No silly phone company branded OS.

@AshleyNunn I haven't had a phone without a removable memory card since my Sony Ericcson k510i... which was a long time ago

(Rogers irked me mightily pre-smartphone days. I'm still holding a grudge.)

user15026
@Frank There's very little on my Moto G that bugs me

7:29 PM
but that has kinda been one of the requirements in a phone for me
not sure if I'd really care nowadays, with phones having 16gb+ memory

@StrixVaria According to Wikipedia, the biggest city in NJ is 277K.

user15026
@Chippies My Galaxy Nexus didn't, but it wasn't a big deal. This phone is smaller so I might appreciate it (it's 8GB I think)

my phone only has a 4gb sd card in it anyway

user15026
@Frank I think what helps is I am with a non-shitty carrier (Wind)

@AshleyNunn I don't believe I've heard of them.

7:30 PM
inb4 @spugsley

The biggest difference is NJ is tiny (area wise) with a huge population. SK is huge with a tiny population.

@JasonBerkan Is that Newark?

I hate how pay as you go plans suck in Canada

If so, that's not as many as I guessed lived there, although I don't blame people for not living there.

user15026
@Frank They're relatively new-ish (within the last 5 years here) and are AWESOME as long as you live in a major city

7:31 PM
@StrixVaria Yes.

user15026
Like I pay $40, get unlimited everything and voicemail

@AshleyNunn Unlimited calling?

user15026
@Frank yeah, canada wide

in Latvia, I paid 10$, got 20$ credit for talking, free text messages and had to renew it after 6 months.

I bet Newark is much smaller area-wise than your city.

user15026
7:31 PM
and unlimited global text

@AshleyNunn That is awesome.
I want that plan now.
Even if my company pays for my cellphone.

user15026
@Frank Seriously, I highly recommend Wind to anyone

here in Canada, all the plans I've seen are monthly and there's like 20$ minimum you have to pay

user15026
Because they are awesome and their service and support is great

NJ: 8700 square miles. SK: 251,700 square miles. And no one lives in the upper half.

user15026
7:32 PM
@Chippies yeah, most plans will be monthly, although you can get pay as you go in some places (I know my aunt does it)

Q: What is a tick?

0-frame linksWhat is a tick? I have heard many instances of tick being used. For example, people will say that demos are recorded in 16 tick, that servers run in 64 tick, but really good servers will run in 128 ticks. I don't exactly understand what's a tick exactly. Why would having higher powers of 2 any ...

Newark: 26.107 sq mi; Regina: 56.2 sq mi

@AshleyNunn but you still have to renew the pay as you go plan every month, don't you?

user15026
@Chippies no, she just gets telus phone cards and loads them

I pay $30 and have unlimited everything (data throttled after 3GB/month) with no contract

7:33 PM
So Regina isn't as dense as Newark, but it is denser than I suspected based off you saying 200k population.

@AshleyNunn assuming she doesn't use the phone to call anyone, would she be able to receive calls for as long as she has credit on the phone? or at least couple of months?

user15026
@OrigamiRobot Mine's throttled after 5, I think, but I never get that high. I have no contract, just a tab I have to pay off if I leave (because they subsidize the phone on my plan for up to $250 bucks)

user15026
@Chippies I think the cards last 60 days? I don't remember the exact details, but my mom would know

@Yuuki not counting this one :p

@AshleyNunn that sounds somewhat like something I need, I'll have to look into that :)

7:35 PM
The only downside was I had to pay for my phone outright

user15026
@Chippies Yeah, I know it is still an option, so it might be something you might want to look into

But this plan saved me $50 per month so that fixed itself pretty quickly

@StrixVaria Wikipedia shows the rural outlying area nicely. The "metro" area is 1300 square miles and adds 17,000 to the population.

@JasonBerkan Wow that's crazy. The town I went to college in has 25,000 people per square mile.
I don't even consider that a city, really.
@JasonBerkan NJ has almost 9x the population of your province :P

@AshleyNunn on Telus website, cheapest prepaid is 20$ for 30 days :/

7:37 PM
@StrixVaria We're super spread out here in Canada.

user15026
@Chippies daaaamn :(

user15026
They used to be better than that

@Frank New Jersey is particularly densely populated, as states go.

user15026
Mind you other companies might be better, I just know they do it

@StrixVaria I like me my open spaces very much, thank you.

7:38 PM
If I just wanted cell service, it would only be $15 per month

@Frank I think I have mild agoraphobia.

@Frank Don't come to London

@AshleyNunn maybe they're better in your area, but not in mine. I wouldn't be surprised by that

@fredley I was in Tokyo for two weeks.
I think London will be fine.

@Frank k

7:40 PM
@fredley London doesn't actually feel too bad for population. I think it is the lack of cars.

@JasonBerkan Yeah I guess
Try the tube at rush hour though
my god

@fredley I did. It was crazy.

I believe Tokyo is the biggest city in the world? Or was? People kept telling me that, anyways.

@JasonBerkan idiot
:P

user15026
@Chippies Me neither :( more reason to come live here :P

7:41 PM
@fredley We just weren't paying attention to the time. "Why is it so busy?"

@JasonBerkan What line?

@AshleyNunn Oh it will take much more to get me to move than better mobile plans :P

Woo! Got it to work!

@fredley My memory isn't that good. Let me look it up.

@JasonBerkan I'm going to get pizza, brb

7:43 PM
my phone has been disconnected for 3 years now, I think and it's probably physically dead, because I haven't used or charged it in these 3 years and I'm doing just fine :P

user15026
@Chippies I am here? I make good cake?

@AshleyNunn when you say "cake", do you mean a sponge cake with icing? Or do you mean like, actual cake? :P

user15026
@Chippies I mean whatever kind of cake you like

because it seems that in Canada, people only know about sponge cakes
they change the colour of icing and they pretend as if it's a totally different cake

I'm not even sure what sponge cake is

user15026
7:45 PM
@Chippies oh man do you mean like grocery store cake because thati s not cake

@AshleyNunn This is always a good reason.

@OrigamiRobot like cupcakes
or muffins, but more spongy and airy

user15026
@Chippies oh no no no this is not what I mean at all. I mean I will make you any cake. Sponge, angel food, whatever

@AshleyNunn yeah, that's what EVERYONE cooks here
in Latvia, you go into a grocery store, go to the culinary section and they have a HUGE variety of different cakes
I haven't had a cake that's not basically an oversized cupcake since I came to Canada

@fredley - Mostly Circle, though I think we had to take Bakerloo from our hotel to the city centre. I can't remember that well, though.

7:46 PM
Grocery store cake is confirmed real cake

Are Canadian salads also disappointing?

I just call that cake

user15026
@Chippies nooooo the cake world has so much more to offer

I work in a bakery in a grocery store

user15026
@TimStone from the grocery store? Yes

user15026
7:47 PM
@GnomeSlice oh, they're "real" but they're all the same

Well yes, they follow a recipe

@TimStone canadian salads are (in my experience) stuff thrown into a bowl and salad dressings on the side that you add yourself

Is pound cake sponge cake?

user15026
@OrigamiRobot nope

@OrigamiRobot i don't think so

user15026
7:48 PM
@GnomeSlice no, I mean they are all one type of cake

What about red velvet?

user15026
Like they are all sponge

No we have different kinds

user15026
@OrigamiRobot kinda, but not really

no

7:48 PM
Oh

@OrigamiRobot a typical birthday cake is usually sponge cake

user15026
Like red velvet is very close to a sponge

My typical birthday cake is ice cream cake

user15026
but different enough my family won't eat it :P

7:49 PM
Somebody post the pound cake video

user15026
Now i want cake

user15026
OH WAIT I HAVE A CINNABON

user15026
that is not cake but still good

Now I want pound cake
I haven't had good pound cake in forever

user15026
@OrigamiRobot pound cakes are like the simplest cake to make, you know

7:50 PM
I am not a cook
I have a magic anti-cooking ability

@OrigamiRobot Baking != Cooking

Baking is a form of cooking

Hey I did it on my phone
3
Shepard likes cake
So does heavy
And.. Joker?

> Pound cake is more commonly known in Britain as sponge cake

@OrigamiRobot it is a sponge cake, but it's not as spongy as the other kind

7:52 PM
I didnt know you were from britland

@OrigamiRobot Isn't sponge cake a different thing?

i don't like baking. you can't really steer away from the recipe much else everything goes wrong. with cooking you can change whatever and truly experiment. Cooking is like chemistry as baking is to math

@Rapitor I am good at baking but not cooking. It's so sad :(

Cooking an baking are hard

sponge cake is a cake that looks like a sponge

7:53 PM
I need a cant cook book

@StrixVaria Before today, I though sponge cake was one specific cake.

@GnomeSlice I find cooking much easier than baking. You can "wing it" when cooking.

SO who knows.

I'm no good at winging stuff

7:53 PM
When I try to wang something it usually goes horribly wrong

@spugsley I think he already owns that one

I bought that book @spugs but the recipes are all too complicated

user15026
@Rapitor baking is actually more forgiving than a lot of people think, but it does require you to pay more attention that cooking

user15026
@GnomeSlice I have one, called How to Cook Everything: The Basics

Omfg wing*

7:54 PM
Baking is as simple as measuring + stirring + stirring + stirring.

@GnomeSlice awww :( That's sad. I wish it was easier like "You're an adult, here's how to make some fucking macaroni and cheese"

Not wang
7

I'm just going to keep calling them all cakes.

baking is boring

user15026
Teaches you stuff like making scrambled eggs and whatever and moves up from there

7:55 PM
My parents got my a starters book but I can't find it

user15026
@spugsley My cookbook I mentioned is like that :)

@AshleyNunn :D I need that!

user15026
@spugsley Seriously, I love that cookbook

user15026
It was SO HELPFUL when I started cooking

Every time you Wing you get the Wong number

7:56 PM
@AshleyNunn I'm gonna look into it :D
ughhh people are fucking mowing already. Fuck you NC

All my food comes in a box

user15026
@spugsley Make sure you look for the basics one, because there is just How To Cook Everything and it is good but The Basics one is better for starting stuff

Frozen usually

I can make things that are like "Boil water. Put this thing in the water for X minutes. Stop boiling thing."

@AshleyNunn ty :D

7:58 PM
And I just put shit in the oven or microwave
I can make KD too

@OrigamiRobot Soft boiled eggs are hard to do right.

@GnomeSlice You are set for life, then. ;)

get a crock pot @GnomeSlice. throw a bunch chicken chunks. a stock of your choice some baby carrots and potatoes (small). done. food for week
crock pot was my best friend in college

@StrixVaria Eggs are weird anyway. My eggs are medium boiled I think. Put eggs on highest heat until the water is boiling, then cover and take off heat for ~10 minutes. Done

@OrigamiRobot How is the yolk when done?

8:00 PM
I need to learn how to grill

@Rapitor just imagining you saying crack pot instead of crock pot.

@StrixVaria solidish

@OrigamiRobot But not like that crumbly shit in hard boiled eggs?

No, fuck that noise.

@AshleyNunn :O omg

user15026
8:01 PM
@spugsley I know right?

@OrigamiRobot That's the absolute worst.

@StrixVaria if you drop the hardboiled egg in icewater immediately after cooking it won't do that

I never ate the yolk growing up because they were always hard boiled.

also won't turn green

@Rapitor Then it's not a hardboiled egg. That's part of what a hardboiled egg is.
Which is what makes soft boiled eggs superior in every way.
These medium boiled eggs also sound useful.

8:02 PM
deviled eggs are most superior

@Rapitor This is a great way to salvage hardboiled eggs.

@AshleyNunn This is quite NSFW.

@Rapitor Deviled eggs are a great way to ruin eggs

user15026
@StrixVaria I didn't think so, because all the bits are covered and you can't actually see anything in particular, but okay

8:05 PM
@AshleyNunn Tagging it would have been fine; no need to delete :|

> filled with the hard-boiled egg's yolk mixed with other ingredients such as mayonnaise and mustard

user15026
@StrixVaria shrug

blegh

user15026
@OrigamiRobot This makes them AMAZING

don't forget sriracha

8:06 PM
No

user15026
@Rapitor and paprika

We can't be friends anymore

@JasonBerkan Not the worst lines!

Here's what I was looking for

@OrigamiRobot You are wrong. Deviled eggs are awesome. So awesome that I should make them this weekend.

8:07 PM
My eggs are like the 1st on the bottom row

user15026
@MBraedley I have 28 eggs in my house....I tink I know where some are going

@OrigamiRobot The 2nd and 3rd on the top row look the best.

No, that's gross

The first one just looks uncooked.

@StrixVaria It is, mostly

8:08 PM
@MBraedley he's wrong about pretty much every food, we just get used to it.

@OrigamiRobot Just cook for a little longer.

I don't care what it tastes like, I don't want any of the top row in my mouth
Bad mouthfeels

I enjoy fried eggs with runny yolks. Not hard boiled eggs with runny yolk though.

2,3,and 4 on the bottom are also garbage

@MBraedley runny yolk is perfect for dipping toast into

8:11 PM
@Rapitor Exactly

user15026
@Rapitor Yes this

user15026
I love dippy eggs (that's what my family has always called soft boiled eggs)

@Rapitor Or hash browns, or other stuffs.

user15026
@Frank oh yes hash browns are an excellent option

@AshleyNunn I don't want egg-flavored Gushers

user15026
8:12 PM
@OrigamiRobot but they're so gooooooood

@AshleyNunn The local Denny's always fills mine with cheese and onions and gravy.

user15026
@Frank grabby hands

3 mins ago, by Origami Robot
Bad mouthfeels

@AshleyNunn They are super awesome hash browns.

user15026
@OrigamiRobot Oddly, I hate weird textures, but eggs that are for dipping arte totally acceptable

8:13 PM
Do you guys also have strong opinions on white vs brown eggs?

user15026
@OrigamiRobot you know they're the exact same, right?

user15026
Because they are.

@OrigamiRobot I always get white eggs, but they're essentially the same.

@OrigamiRobot Brown eggs feel icky even though I know they're exactly the same.

Yes, but I know people who swear by one and not the other

user15026
8:14 PM
There's no difference between them

user15026
I get whatever my egg farming family people give me

@Wipqozn ?

@Wipqozn There's a problem with your city: it's entirely beach

Eggs are eggs. Delicious.

8:15 PM
@MBraedley Yes

@Frank Unless they're scrambled. I hate scrambled eggs
I used to love them, but now I hate them.
No idea where that came from

@OrigamiRobot Okay, that I will agree with. Not a fan of scrambled eggs, myself.

user15026
I like scrambled done right (light, fluffy, lots of cheese)

@fredley I guess not. Circle is probably mostly tourists anyway.

8:16 PM
oddly enough I'm the same, i still eat scrambled, but not nearly a smuch and I have to be in a certain mood.

user15026
@fredley I liked it but they are calling it a lifehack and that is stupid

@AshleyNunn This isn't a lifehack, it's a solution to a real problem

user15026
@fredley I know, but the people on the kickstarter page are calling it a "little lifehack"

user15026
and that makes me want to punch things

@AshleyNunn :(

8:18 PM
@fredley The real answer is to change the spec not to be unidirectional.

@Frank USB C

@fredley So...they are doing that?

@Frank yes

\o/

USB C will probably supercede USB quite quickly. Apple's really going for it, as is Google on the pixel
crosses fingers

8:19 PM
Also, brain had a fart. I had that statement right the first time.
One of my friends managed to fry her netbook by forcing a USB drive in the wrong direction.

@fredley I'm posting this to lifehacks in a bit,a t which point it will be deleted for being spam, and I'll then go to meta to point out why their "no link to store pages" rule is flawed adn stupid

@fredley USC*?

@Yuuki USBC
USAD
@Wipqozn KS is Not A Store anyway

@fredley No, but I bet it'll be deleted anyways.
WE SHALL SEE

@Wipqozn At least they have mods who can properly abuse you now

8:22 PM
@fredley True

@Yuuki Holy snap, crackle, and pop.

8:38 PM
@Yuuki Trees, trees everywhere.

@LessPop_MoreFizz If you ever find yourself in Jeffersonville, Indiana, go eat at Big Four Burgers. They have a fairly large beer menu, and the best burgers I've ever eaten. :D

@Frank I know someone who probably fried their Ultrabook by blindly trying to plug in headphones and hitting the USB port. If that was actually the reason for the damage, it's incredibly stupid that you can brick your notebook that easily. I've seen computers easily handling someone shorting out the USB port by plugging in a tiny USB drive the wrong way, they might crash, but they won't be broken permanently.

@MadScientist It was mostly because it was kinda fragile, and she probably shorted it out by lifting the slot right off the board.
Hard drive survived, though, so we managed to recover all her files.

@MadScientist Yea, I was actually reading an article earlier today about how USB ports have lots of built in protections
