@AshleyNunn Yeah, I get that. Taming of the Shrew is super hard to follow because of all the custom insults.

@Yuki Well, I'd say "don't commit a lover's suicide, full stop", but hey, each their own.

@FEichinger True, but it's doubly stupid to do it with someone you quite literally just met.

FAE
@Yuki To be fair, some people do fall in love quickly.

@FAE There's falling in love quickly and there's "I'm gonna commit suicide before I can verify you're actually dead."

@Yuki The number of Greek tragedies that follow that plot is astounding to me.

FAE
11:03 PM
@Yuki True, but if you're in the first stages of grief, I'm pretty sure "Maybe she hatched an elaborate ruse to fool everyone and is just comatose!" isn't the first thing on your mind though.

Q: Never played Minecraft but seen pixlemon videos, looks fun but how exactly does it work?

benI've never played Minecraft before but have seen pixlemon videos and it looks fun though I have some reservations. My question is how exactly does it work? There is on and offline modes. if you catch something offline can you use it online and vice-verse? If you catch something on one server do y...

@John That wasn't the message of Twilight at All.

And then we come to my other problem with this play: if you're going to fake your death, you should probably tell your "true love" about it. Especially if (s)he's the entire reason you're going to fake your death.

@Yuki takes notes

The message of Twilight is that the bruises mean he loves you and that you shouldn't have a life outside of your man.
Seriously, fuck Twilight.
Also Fuck EA.

11:05 PM
Although I think it was because the priest she confided in decided to not tell Romeo for some stupid ass-reason.

Just for good measure.

FAE
@Yuki The message didn't get there in time.
He tried.
"star-crossed lovers" and all that, fate interveeeeened

Stupid fate.

I just get annoyed when people treat Romeo and Juliet like some sort of idealistic love story when it's anything but.

@Yuki It's a tragedy, not a RomCom.

11:06 PM
Romeo and Juliet were both better off not reproducing.

user15026
@Yuki Eeergh, I never want any of my loves to go like that.

user15026
@GnomeSlice facedesk

Well come on, did they seem very smart to you?

@GnomeSlice I think eugenics is just something of a sensitive topic.

@GnomeSlice So you're saying we should let teenagers idealize them all they want and the problem will work itself out of the gene pool?

FAE
11:08 PM
@AshleyNunn Indeed. :(

There are no Shakespeare plays that I don't absolutely hate every character in.

There's also the matter of the fact that Romeo was "in love" with another girl before he met Juliet (I think her name started with a B?) and he talked about her the exact same way he did with Juliet, IIRC. And it's implied he was "in love" with another girl before that.

@GnomeSlice Every character?

11:09 PM
@Wipqozn I recall this being a game for which some mods are considered 'essential'. (Like, graphics upgrade nonsense, restored content, not overhaul the game and make it something else.)
I literally don't know more than that though.

@Fluttershy Yes.

Mercutio was pretty baller.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Yeah, I believe it is.
Also I think I changed my mind anyways.

@Fluttershy He was okay, but still a bit of a douche.

@GraceNote It's even more scary that there are 100+ bids on that thing.

11:09 PM
I think I'm going to finish ETrian ODyessy IV first, then move onto STalker.

@GraceNote 178 bids at 6 million?

@Frank Really? I thought I did, changed my mind, clicked it again to undo, and it asked if I wanted to reopen rather than undo, so I figured I never actually did it the first time

FAE
@Yuki Rosaline

What the fuck?

@Yuki That is the thing that frightens me, yes.

11:10 PM
There were some steps of me doing work in between, hence the absent mindedness

@GraceNote that...that bid

@FAE Yeah, her. Essentially, there is nothing telling us that Romeo's love for Juliet is "true" other than the narration. And I'm always suspicious of the narration.

I still keep waffling on whether or not it should be off-topic.

@Yuki The narrator is always the bad guy.

@GnomeSlice You haven't seen enough Shakespeare plays then.

11:12 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm okay with that.

@John And the Helicopter Game is still just as alive as it was over 10 years ago.

So readings of Romeo and Juliet always came off more like Horny Guy and Really Naive Girl so I never truly understood where people got the theme of true love out of it.

@Frank I figured it out. I bet I had it open in two windows, VTC'd in one, and tried again in the other to undo it and didn't get the undo dialog

@GraceNote The amount of identical clones that still exist and even preceded Flappy Bird makes the attention paid to it even more insane.

I AM A GENIUS

@John NOPE

FAE
@spugsley This sounds like you're pregnant again

@John This is literally the first thing that came to mind the moment I saw a description of Flappy Bird.

11:13 PM
@GraceNote ... I should sell my phone.

@FAE :O

@spugsley :(

@AshleyNunn But some of those bids are from people with a really high rating

I'm so confused

11:14 PM
(Normally I'd cast a vote and see if five show up, because I am too Minecraft stupid to be definitive, but... stupid diamond.)

I CAN'T DRINK THE WATER STUPID NUMB MOUTH
I literally just spit water all over myself

@spugsley gross

@spugsley Use a straw, silly.
Unless you had like... major work done.
Dry socket is bad.

@GraceNote Same here.

@Fluttershy Or...find the file somewhere, install it on phones en masse, retire rich.

11:17 PM
@spugsley :( dentist?

@spugsley Make sure you're not still numb when you go to eat!

Question about relational databases: A candidate key is a minimal superkey, right?

My phone has other games which are no longer available on it too!
RICH

@spugsley If surgery, do not use a straw. It can break things.

So, if A is candidate key, AB can't be a candidate key, right?

11:19 PM
It's been too long

@badp yes :(
@John nope, just fillings :(
@FAE it's calming down. It's mainly just my bottom lip which means that water dribbles out of my mouth :/

@GraceNote I cloned this!
It's pretty bad.

@Yuki According to wikipedia, yes.

I picked dope ass music though.

@Yuki So says wikipedia, yes.

11:21 PM
Apparently not so for my current class.

Minimum set of globally unique columns

sigh, instructor's personal definitions. Fun.

Yay! They fixed the Wi-Fi here!!!!

Let me look at my class notes

@Yuki Yes.

11:21 PM
although they're in Italian

someone has flappybird apk?

@Braiam Want to sell a phone, huh?

@spugsley Bwahahahahaha

@spugsley How long ago did they inject you?
3

@Yuki Yeah, in my class notes a candidate key is just a set of attributes that technically can become the primary key (they satisfy uniqueness checks). You pick the primary key from those.

11:23 PM
@Fluttershy About 4 days after I had my Wisdom Teeth removed, I was starting to get confident about healing and such; I had moved off of prescription painkillers, and was beginning to transition to solid food, having successfully progressed from pudding and strained soup to mashed potatoes and things like pancakes with tons of syrup to make them soggy.

Fun fact: Peter Molyneux dislikes the new Dungeon Keeper

@DavidM About 2:45

> "I felt myself turning round saying, 'What? This is ridiculous. I just want to make a dungeon. I don't want to schedule it on my alarm clock for six days to come back for a block to be chipped,'" Molyneux told the BBC. "I don't think they got it quite right, the balance between keeping it familiar to the fans that were out there but fresh enough and understandable enough for this much bigger mobile audience."

Then I made a mistake; I figured 'rice is soft! I should be able to eat rice!'.

Q: Which port is which in Ancient Art of War at Sea?

Josh CaswellThere are two types of ports in Ancient Art of War at Sea, "repair" and "supply". The manual doesn't seem to tell you which is which, though. There's an FAQ floating around that says a repair port "looks like a fort", and the supply port "looks like a town". Those descriptions are still kind o...

just realized we all have different time zones :3

@Powerlord Disliking it is something you'd expect anyway. But when Peter Molyneux is calling your game ridiculous, you've got issues.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Oh god whyyyyyy

@spugsley Just now? :P

11:23 PM
@spugsley EST?

@DavidM yup yup

@Fluttershy I like how I don't even need to finish this story.

@DavidM You know, you can edit instead of deleting. :P

(This is true of every time I have ever told this story in any setting. It just ends there, and people can fill in the rest just fine.)

@LessPop_MoreFizz Keep in mind that Peter Molyneux created the original Dungeon Keeper, too

11:24 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm just imagining bits of rice being stuck in empty sockets. x_x

So about 4h. So . . . given that it was probably lidocaine with epinephrine. It should start to wear off in the next 30-60 min.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I still have my wisdom teeth and don't see something obviously wrong with it so please carry on

@Powerlord Right, which is why I'd expect him to dislike it. That part is... meh.

@OrigamiRobot WORM GAME WAS SO MUCH BETTER <3

@FEichinger Yeah, but it's a bigger pain in the butt to fix the referral.

11:25 PM
@DavidM Not really: Edit, click new reply link on the right.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I R SPECIAL. I REQUIRE DETAILS.

@badp So, imagine you have a hole in your gums where a tooth used to be, which is not yet healed or covered by scab or scar tissue.

@DavidM it's mostly lidocaine I think. I had a bad reaction to the epinephrine last time

@LessPop_MoreFizz um, I don't remember this being a problem with milk teeth, but that was ages ago.

Imagine a tiny thing getting stuck in that little space, preventing proper healing, an providing nourishment for various microbial malefactors.

11:26 PM
@spugsley That's just because they injected it into your blood vessels.

@DavidM it was really really close to an artery or nerve or something. I forgot what she said
it was when I had a tooth prepped for a crown

@spugsley Did your heart race?

> The Batman: Arkham Origins support page is full of frustrated players after community manager "Mercury" wrote that the Origins development team would be focused on completing story DLC instead of fixing the game's numerous, game-breaking bugs.

@badp That's because with your baby teeth, there is an adult tooth pushing up behind it; there isn't a bloody wound instead.

@DavidM oh yes. Like I was dyingggggg

11:27 PM
Urge to purchase... dropping.

@spugsley Would it help if I told you the other name for epinephrine is adrenaline?

@DavidM :O I didn't know that!

@LessPop_MoreFizz Somehow I'm planning to keep my wisdom teeth if at all possible.

@badp You need all the wisdom you can get!

@badp there's no reason to have them out unless they're impacted.

11:28 PM
@badp are you a hoarder?

@LessPop_MoreFizz Do you have a dry socket?

The two up have come out without issues, and the bottom right started poking out then stopped.

@LessPop_MoreFizz mine were. They were growing in completely horizontal!

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz oh no.

11:29 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz Oooo bad idea

When I had my wisdom teeth out, I made the mistake of waiting for the drugs to wear off before taking my prescribed painkillers. That was a huge mistake.

@spugsley I had all four impacted so severely that they became infected to the point where I was unable to actually close my mouth without biting holes into my cheeks - they were that swollen before I could get them removed.

Q: Bitizen with "Imposter" as dream job on tiny death star

user68997Has anyone else seen a worker show up in their "tiny death star" with "imposter" listed as their dream job? I've been playing for a few weeks on two devices, and never seen one before, however my son got one in his tds this evening (it was one of the blue-skinned aliens to boot). What do y'all th...

@DavidM I dunno, I noticed it for a couple days in november because the cusps were biting into my inner cheeks. After that, nothing.

(I had no health insurance or dental insurance of any sort at the time, and also no money.)

11:29 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz :O Wow. That's horrible!

@badp It's rare, but possible.
The dentists originally thought I may not need to get mine removed, but a couple years later they said Iwould need to.

@spugsley like, I would talk, and my mouth would fill with blood in the final days before I dealt with it.

I can feel the cusps below my gum on my bottom-left side too.

@badp I forgot how long they give it, but typically when they don't come up it's because they are impacted.

And so I did, and so I got a few days off work and school.

6 mins ago, by LessPop_MoreFizz
@Fluttershy I like how I don't even need to finish this story.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I had that, and I had to use a soft tipped dental pick type thing to get stuff out of the sockets. It hurt, but I have a ridiculous tolerance for pain.

@DavidM What I do know is that I still have a piece of iron keeping my central bottom teeth in place.
I'd much rather get rid of the iron and have slightly anti-aesthetic teeth.

@John @AshleyNunn @spugsley ^

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz Nope. I can finish it just fine :P

user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz augh.

11:32 PM
@badp That seems reasonable.

@LessPop_MoreFizz ow ow OW OW MY TEETH ARE HURTING BECAUSE OF THIS
YOU ARE LITERALLY CAUSING MY TEETH TO ACHE (or at least feel funny)

@badp The iron is a spacer?

@DavidM Yeah; no ETA on removal.

@badp One day I got one of these. One day later my teeth were like "NOPE" and I ended up with broken metal attached to my mouth

@AshleyNunn Best part is that about 6 weeks after I finally got them removed and paid absurd dental bills over the whole ordeal, I finally got a promotion to a position that included insurance.... which I had been turned down for six months earlier.

user15026
11:33 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz oh man.

I have my 2nd wisdom tooth coming in right now.
I think it's my 2nd

@badp Might be a two for one deal.

@badp It ws pretty bad.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Well of course, then your dental risk was much lower.

@Wipqozn @LessPop_MoreFizz before you got yours out did they show you a ridiculous video where the gist was "YOU MIGHT DIE"

11:34 PM
@spugsley Negative.

I was only 15 and I was terrified O_o

@spugsley That's nothing. You should see the crap I make patients sign every day. . .

@spugsley That could be why maybe? I was ~26 at the time, IIRC.
I know I wasn't 25, because if I was 25, I'd've still been on my mothers insurance policy.

@spugsley I did not see this video either

Also, it wasn't my first time under anesthesia; that was when I was 4 years old!

11:36 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz Anesthesia was awesome. I felt great afterwards!

FAE
I've still got all my wisdom teeth. My top two never came through. My bottom two were severely painful coming through and I remember having to basically chew through my gum for one of them and rip the little piece off because it was just hanging there in the dent my tooth made and driving me mad (and getting food stuck under it).

like I was living in a land of dreams and unicorns and nothing mattered

@LessPop_MoreFizz These videos are called EMMIs. Electronic Medical Information or something. Some surgeons use them because they are highly standardized, and make it easy for them to say that they told the patients everything they were supposed to.
Informed consent, and all that stuff.

@FAE :O

@FAE I did that, too.

11:37 PM
My father lacks wisdom teeth entirely

FAE
@spugsley Yeah, I basically had to gnaw through a piece of my gum, it sucked.

I wasn't so lucky.

@FAE You were teething all over again.

FAE
@DavidM For the rest though, I still have both my bottom ones and I have no problems with them now. They just sit a little lower in my jaw than the rest of my bottom teeth.

It's funny, but literally the last dream that I can remember ever having was the dream I had while under anesthesia as a 4 year old.

11:39 PM
CC @RedRiderX @badp @StrixVaria

If I have had a dream while sleeping since then, I am not consciously aware of it. At all.

@spugsley Oh yeah, that stuff . . . I use that stuff all the time!

@DavidM :)

@LessPop_MoreFizz wait what. Did you sign away all of your dreams with the latest Blizzard patch or something?

@LessPop_MoreFizz Do you follow a regulated sleep pattern?

11:39 PM
@badp I just... don't remember dreams. At all.

@LessPop_MoreFizz That's not uncommon.

@DavidM Oh, I know it isn't.

The only way for me to do that is to sleep longer hours than usual. It helps to be a little starved for sleep.

I would die if I couldn't remember any of my dreams

11:40 PM
Then I find out I dream about weird movie plot things.

I just think it's funny that literally the only one I have ever remembered is throne from when I was gassed as a 4 year old to have a Hernia fixed.

I have awesome dreams

Typically people only remember dreams if they wake up in the REM stage. If you wake up normally, the brain purges most of the information. The alarm clock is responsible for more people remembering dreams than ever before.

@spugsley You would hate being me.

...I literally just realized @Lazers wasn't @Unionhawk

11:41 PM
It wasn't a coherent dream or anything; I just remember patterns of colors and giant disembodied sesame street letters floating around in the blackness.

I don't even reach REM sleep.

@GnomeSlice :O

I kept wondering why @Unionhawk was posting random questions.

facedesk

@spugsley Yeah. It also means I feel like I haven't slept at all when I wake up every morning.

11:41 PM
@DavidM Even when an alarm clock yanks me, it's just... asleep, then awake.

@LessPop_MoreFizz That means that you probably wake up from Stage 2 not 3.

waiting for the snow waiting for the snow waiting for the snowwwww

@LessPop_MoreFizz ooooh that kinda happened to me too, although the operation was different. I was really nervous for the operation, then I entered the room and noticed - oh my! a wall full of TV sets! I wasn't going to get full anesthesia, but I got too excited.

@DavidM I don't know that I even hit stage 3, given that we're talking about 26 years of non-remembering.

@spugsley Oh the excitement ._.

11:43 PM
@DavidM Most of the time I'm dreaming while I'm going to turn off my alarm.

@badp They let me ride in to the OR on one of those motorized big wheel motortrikes. It was awesome.

@LessPop_MoreFizz You do, or you would likely have major medical issues.
@OrigamiRobot That's different. It's more like a daydream.
REM sleep is critical for proper brain function.

mm../

@DavidM It's a continuation of the dream I was having when I was asleep.

user15026
Every surgery I have ever had I don't remember the dreams, it is like I close my eyes and open them ten seconds later, only with staples in my head or something

11:45 PM
@OrigamiRobot You assume . . . But, what is likely happening is that you are being woken up during a REM cycle, and then your brain is holding onto the imagery.
The average person has closer to 3-4 dreams per night.

@DavidM And then I go back to sleep and continue the dream.

@Braiam I can find Flappy Doge for you.

I'm obviously not in REM sleep while this is happening.

@Braiam I have Flappy Bird.

I am bad at Flappy Bird

@spugsley Flappy Bird is bad at games.

@Braiam Also, this one guy has it on his iPhone. He'll sell it to you for 6M Euro.

@Fluttershy where?

@OrigamiRobot Correct. Hence it is closer to a daydream. A sub-conscious hallucination. Whatever you want to call it.

This whole Flappy Bird fiasco has been a fascinating experiment to watch.

11:48 PM
@Braiam On my iPhone.

The funny thing is, if you'd bought an Android phone, you could be downloading the damn thing off XDA. But noooo, let's buy a "rare" phone for $thousands

@Fluttershy Are you selling it for 6M Euro?

FAE
@LessPop_MoreFizz I mostly feel kind of bad for the guy

If not, you're way underpricing it.

@Yuki I want to!

11:49 PM
@DavidM I want to call it a dream.

@FAE Yeah, same.

@OrigamiRobot Be my guest.

@FAE He's learning about Streisand

OK, I go now. Lecture just got interesting. I will be back later.

@FAE What's so nasty about rice specifically?

@badp Small grains that can get stuck in an open, bloody gum hole easily.

@badp It's tiny and can get stuck in your bloody gum holes.

@badp it is a food that exists in tiny nearly unchewable pieces which are perfectly shaped/sized to get stuck in the open hole.

I'm rather picturing small strands of chewing gum just getting stuck there

@FAE I don't know that I'd even get that far; I'd try to chew on something crunchy and the pain of the act of trying to bite down on something that hard would cause me to spit it out or choke on it before it becomes an issue with any sort of longevity.

FAE
@LessPop_MoreFizz Yeah, I'm imagining the shooting pain that would go through your jaw and head.

Like, yeah, it'd be a bad idea to try and chew on an ice cube after wisdom tooth removal too, but not because it's going to cause you to go through another round of awful pain and suffering; it'd just hurt right then and there in the act.

It's the difference between saying that you shouldn't try to go running on your formerly broken leg the day you get the cast removed because it's not a good idea to strain the muscle that fast versus saying you shouldn't hit your formerly broken leg with a hammer the day you get the cast removed because it will hurt. I mean, the latter statement is true, but it has very little to do with why the former is such an especially bad idea.
