Q: Is there any way to control or lock the camera?

I just cleared the Dead Bog area and there were points where I thought I might vomit from how much the camera juts around. Is there anyway to lock the camera or to control it manually? I'm playing on the 360 but I'd be willing to switch platforms if there was one that offered this feature.

@ChrisHateZ Huh... rougelike speedruns that I've seen tend to end up being slow anyway. Usually you need to explore enough to get equipment you need to beat/bypass the chokepoints

I just found "The Land of Darkness" entrance in the castle. Is there any benefit of going to this areas before beating the boss?

Oh btw for those who aren't aware of it, when you press pause (Esc) you can see level and stats of all enemies on the screen.

Usually through spiked paths, or enemies in unreachable alcoves.

It's meant to be a reflex challenge, not a strategy one.

It's really not a roguelike. Pretty much the only roguelike elements are hit points, mana, and a procedurally generated dungeon

Roguelike comes from "Rogue" which is a game and "like" basically implying that "Roguelike" is a game that is a lot like Rogue (game).

So a lot of this so called "roguelikes" aren't technically that at all.

Q: What attributes makes a game a Roguelike?

I always assumed that a roguelike was a nethack-esque game with ascii graphics, but apparently there is more to it than that. Note that I never actually played nethack and all I know about it is that is an rpg. So what makes a game a roguelike?

@SaintWacko in Nethack, a bones file is sometimes left by a character on death, consisting of the level as of the moment of their death, except that most of their inventory is cursed, and any Unique monsters or Items that are supposed to spawn elsewhere are removed (replaced by base item if an item). This file then has a random chance to be generated as a replacement for the appropriate level.

Oh, and once the file is loaded, it is deleted.
