most are moving +/- 1-2... but for the purpose of the primary, I got a -1 and Samuel got a +1.... So we're only one vote apart.

Yeah, one vote could swing that...

his, actually

Especially if Samuel still has a +1 on you...

yes, that's what I meant. I suppose he does. Or he removed it and I got an upvote... but no, I think he does
by the way, the primary stops today at 20:00 UTC, right?

it does not have much impact, but I think Art' might overpass Michael

10:49 AM
yeah AoC vs Michael and Samuel vs Bilbo are the only ones not settled I think. Maybe Monica vs me but for the most part anyone upvoting one of us seems to upvote both.

2:02 PM
Mornin, folks!

hi :)

Afternoon :)

morning. @SerbanTanasa see you've caught up to only 5 behind
(me)

yeah, night trends seem to have reversed

yep

2:04 PM
it will be interesting from a US perspective to have an election start on Friday evening before a long weekend
Here in DC we only release stuff we don't want anyone to know about Friday afternoon at 4pm

yep. A lot of US votes are probably going to be Monday morning

Some public holiday in US?

it's a long weekend
President's day

oh ya, that's right.
I don't have a government job

neither do i, but i get all the perks, since we often work for govt folks

2:06 PM
nice.
but working in a government town, what else would you expect?

i might be moving to the states over the next 2 - 3 years (i'm canadian)
the powers which employers have over their employees scares me a little bit
I feel we have more rights (and also holidays) in Canada

2:23 PM
Everyone has more time off than us in the US.
as far as 1st world countries I mean

@bowlturner is it really? Japanese and Chinese aren't spending their time in holidays neither...

i value my government holidays
such as this coming up monday! Booya!
well .. it's provincial, not federal, but it still counts :P

@bilbo_pingouin true, though I'm not sure if China is considered 1st world yet?

@bilbo_pingouin - China is def not "1st world", even though they're one of the largest economies around

and Japan I think just doesn't use them, they still have them don't they?

2:25 PM
I did not see the 1st World part when I wrote my message ;)

as far as Japan and South Korea are concerned they are not "Western" countries, even though they are first world

AFAIK, in Japan, they have like two weeks of holidays
and I have seen Japanese working 6.5 days a week... from 7:00 to 22:00...

right, I think they have just as much if not more than the US, they just have a workaholic culture that barely allows time to sleep
So it's a status of how much you DON'T use

basically, yes
i can see how it would benefit the people at the top, not the common employee
the Japanese nobility were brilliant to set that culture up

yep burn them out, there are plenty more where they came from!

2:30 PM
as a matter of fact, Japanese spend a lot of time at work. Saying that they work all that time does not reflect the full reality of things

of course not
but at the same time
one of my best friends (for 13 years) is Korean, and what he describes to me as their study/work culture sounds like freakin' slavery to me
he would never, ever go back there

true, but they having to spend 4 hours after 'work' with people from work, and not with friends or family would be terrible

why do you think Japanese have such a well established drinking at/after work culture?
people are miserable

I'm an introvert. I need to go home to my retreat in the woods and be alone. If you want me to be useful again

and I'm not the one saying that - watched a documentary about it
retreat in the woods? that sounds divine
i'm not that much of an introvert, but i do love the woods

2:33 PM
I bought a place on the river surrounded by woods. I love the quiet

at our end, Daaaah is also closing in

i'd be sorry to see you fall from 10th place, bilbo

@AndreiROM not a bad one

2:36 PM
lol, nice

@AndreiROM well thanks. Though I think Samuel and Daaaah deserve it about as much as I do :-)

i live in a 500K+ city - i'd be shuffling along looking for brains within 24 hrs :P

Election question: Is there an example of someone being at the bottom in primary actually getting the diamond?
And as of zombie apocalypse: I live in 1200 people big village. Big farm near the river :)

Well, I don't know. This is the first one I've really paid attention to

@PavelJanicek I doubt that would happen too often, but each election is different.. for one, there are 4 spots here. When there are typically less (see SFF, SO, etc.)
but in our case there are 3 almost sure to be elected... so it's down to 6 persons for 1 place :)

2:56 PM
Well...I'm being careful not to make any assumptions. We may have a 50% vote bump in the primaries but that doesn't mean we'll get the same in the election proper. Especially if people think we're in for sure and don't vote for us

may the odds be forever in your favor :)

I figure I'll vote for one person that I feel really SHOULD be in and then worry about the other two votes (though I'm pretty sure of 2 of my 3 votes)
But actually not sure of the order I want to vote in either.

I think I know who I'm voting for
really I want 5 votes though
or 6
in fact 10, give me 10 votes
lol

sounds fair, lol
we may endu p with more mods than users though :P

We'll give you nine votes Tim, who you going to leave out? ;)

3:00 PM
This happened to me in one online game

I'll leave out @bowlturner for being mean and giving me 9 votes

Just before the game mechanics got reset to new "Age", everyone got set as "army general"

lol
can i be an army general? :P

@TimB I almost said we'd give you nine votes but you can't vote for yourself! ;)

@bowlturner - I'd vote for myself 9 times :P

3:03 PM
@AndreiROM at least then you'd have 9 votes! ;P~~

ooo, burn

ah! too much politics going on today! :)

@bowlturner - you should check your downvote count again :P

4:57 PM
@SerbanTanasa is now only 3 behind me

5:13 PM
Deciding is hard. It's pretty obvious who my first vote's going to, but then I have twice the number of remaining possibles than the number of votes.

5:27 PM
I'm saddened by the prospect of losing access to some tools when the site receives its final design
I heard rep requirements would go up for a number of privileges

@AndreiROM For all of them, pretty much. They'll change to the same levels as SO has.

i might be out of luck then
I haven't even hit 7K yet

I get to keep my close votes and editing, which is the important bit.

I should be OK for that at 7k, right ?

Yeah. 3k is close votes.
10k is viewing deleted posts and deleting questions, which is the next important one.
20k is deleting answers, which... is overrated.

5:35 PM
@ArtOfCode Dunno, I've found that useful.

@HDE226868 Yeah, but if you'd vote to delete, you can just flag. The delay is slightly longer, but the effect is the same.

God, I wish I'd get to 20K rep

@ArtOfCode Maybe, but I find delete votes more satisfying.

@HDE226868 True that

the way it's going it'll be a year or more until I hit that

5:39 PM
We will lose a lot of community moderation once the privilege levels do up, though.
It won't be too bad, but it will be a loss.

Sounds like even more of a load for newly elected mods :)

@Samuel A little, for a while.

how long have you had that picture prepared?

Voted!

Me too!

@Samuel, thanks for your fairplay. And really sorry that you got that many downvotes. FWIW, you had my upvote.

@AndreiROM Honestly I just did a really quick spur of the moment search

@bilbo_pingouin I'm probably less awful than people think.

:)

Its been a long time since I saw an election, do we have any idea where the results stand during or do we just wait for the end?

Is it just me, or are Aify's bots slowing down the site

voted
@James none at all, except any impressions you get in chat.

@James, I think we are in the dark until Monday

8:07 PM
I'm so torn on who to vote for

man...I was at a nice even 30 silvers

I'ma wait until near the end, me thinks

Hey @MonicaCellio

at which point I'll be accepting bribes
the big shiny "upload" button

Thanks to everybody who stood for election, knowing that only ten could go on. We have a wealth of strong candidates, more than the ten on the ballot. You all make this community strong.

@SerbanTanasa lol nice

And @Samuel -- so close! Ouch.

Kind of boring...

oh and incidentally, until TimB get around voting:

8:10 PM
34 voters

Silver FTW

@SerbanTanasa ah ah ah ah :D

@SerbanTanasa no blow-by-blow results like in the primary. Tuesday at UTC 20:00 we all find out what happened.

@MonicaCellio That's honestly kinda nice.

@James hey, happy Friday!
@James yeah. We're now in the secret-ballot phase of the election. Vote, go have a nice weekend, and just wait. :-)

8:13 PM
Mang, Tuesday! That's like, foreveer.

@MonicaCellio Oh Ill be doing more than waiting...we are having my five year old's birthday party this weekend.
:)

that will be somewhat relaxing... as we can only wait

@James cool, have fun!

@MonicaCellio There will be a star wars pinata...
which...in a way seems wrong.

does it look like the death star?

8:16 PM
I never once saw a taco served in a star wars cantina
@AndreiROM unfortunately not.

that would have been very appropriate
it could have rained out little lego storm-troopers
and death, of course

...that would make my kids head explode in sheer joy
...he has a bit of a lego problem, I am considering getting an intervention banner ready just in case.

@James depends -- what are they hitting? A death-star pinata would be fitting!

@James there's no such thing as a lego problem
only lego solutions

8:27 PM
56 voters...

@MonicaCellio Yeah it was close. And I voted for @bilbo_pingouin, so it was also in my grasp, though not within my moral system.

@Samuel right. Upvoting other candidates on their own merits, without regard to what it does to the standings, is the right thing to do. And the two of you voted for each other, if I understand correctly, so you both did the right thing.

@MonicaCellio Naturally.

out of curiosity, what would have happened if someone had withdrawn their vote for bilbo and tied them?

I have upvoted Samuel and DaaaahWoosh... because they deserved it, regardless of any race or competition
@AndreiROM reputation, so Samuel would have been selected

8:33 PM
@AndreiROM Yeah, it would have then been based on reputation.
I'm glad no one did that. It would have looked mighty suspicious on me.

8:53 PM
Oh by the way there is apparently no search safe from NSFW content btw. I searched for "I voted" and a picture of strategically placed stickers on a woman's chest came up...

I find it interesting to see the names of the 74 people who voted so far

@Samuel Exactly, hahahaha.

1 hour later…
10:06 PM
98 voters so far, if it follows the same pattern as the primaries I expect the numbers to fall off fairly fast
in total we've got around 1500 people eligible to vote, just under 600 have actually visited the election page at some point

do we get a way to know how many people participated in the primary?

@TimB it's usually ~30% turnout, so expect ~400-500 voters

I can see how many visited, not how many different people voted
however we do have a minimum

up+down votes of HDE is a minimum

indeed
177

10:09 PM
but it is possible, though probably not that many, that some visited without voting for HDE...

Do we know how many were puppets?

puppets? Socks? Minions? or are they all the same?

Non-independent entities.

Unlikely to be many if any :)

Is it inappropriate if I just make a sock account for fun?
I know it is not a good idea, but what legitimate reasons exist?

10:18 PM
The mods can see IPs, right? So they'll know at least.

We can see IPs and have other tools to spot socks etc
@Hohmannfan It's not against the rules so long as you don't start voting for yourself with it etc

And it is probably a good idea to ask for permission first. And clearly state that the account is a sock
Is the opposite of one person with many accounts common? Like many persons using the same account?

Q: How should sockpuppets be handled on Stack Exchange?

Won'tSo a high-reputation, highly-active user has already been dinged once for a sockpuppet, and I just dinged him again. He probably has another sockpuppet as well. What are the guidelines for handling users who game the system in this fashion? Specifically, How can I be sure I'm looking at a soc...

There's the sock policy

@Hohmannfan well that's pretty hard to notice...

10:57 PM
could some of you write here the number of constituents badges every now and then?
we could see the evolution of the votes later

11:38 PM
Voted.
[I had a busy afternoon.]
~136 Constituents.
