This is the dumbest idea I've ever had twitch.tv/unionhawk/v/491637663
I'm going to use it every time

@GnomeSlice imo Dark Souls trains the ability to skip enemies. Once you get to a boss and die, there's very little reason to keep fighting the enemies on the way
in fact, as long as you're not trying to explore slowly and know where to go, killing trash mobs is not required and it's much better to just run through
there's nothing worse than to get oneshot by a trash mob next to the boss entrance for the 5th (10th, 100th) time as you've killed 50 enemies on the way there

12:35 AM
@Elise Yeah this is why my first playthrough of dark souls took like 60 hours lol, I played like this for the entire game and just fought every enemy every time

12:46 AM
@Yuuki I think it's technically a "PS4 Controller" so it requires that one
To like work with the system

Q: CNC tool to tool (T/T) so fast, how to catch up the exchanging speed by a VFD pumping system?

SH JThe latest development of CNC machine. RPM is very fast, the T/T time is less than 3sec. For a cutting fluid pumping machine. it is difficult to catch up that T/T time which is so faster. When M code command distressed from CNC to CTS machine, if CTS is managed by VFD. How to catch up with it?

having good tests AND making sure that successful tests are successful because whatever you're testing passes the test rather than being successfull because you end up skipping the test is so important

Yeah, my coworkers don't quite understand why when I'm assigned an issue my first commit tends to be "[Issuenumber] Added a failing unit test to show the issue"
You can't write a unit test to see if you've fixed a thing if you've already fixed the thing! Then you don't know if it's an accurate test

@Elva I try to do to TDD as well, but when you're adding a new feature, you kinda can't add a test for a method that doesn't exist yet

Yeah new features true, I'm talking about bugfixes :p
Though if the new feature is new different behaviour depending on configuration it works
And you can always create a "throw new NotImplementedException" method to call

Yeah, I know. Thing is, the current task I'm working on (task as in larger whole) is a service method that handles a very complicated import: first validate a complex object graph that can go like 8 nested levels deep, then convert that object graph into a flat tree that we can then insert into an existing part of our code so we can reuse our clone logic for the import
So it ends up being a group of 20-30 methods that all work on the same object and are pretty much impossible to test in separate unittests, because it's the entire graph that needs to be validated and imported at once
So my unittest is an 800 line beast of a test
And it tests everything, and in the right order, but I think I'll need to cut it into sections
The problem is that I don't think I can cut it into smaller methods, because during my initial setup and pre-conversion validation, I create like a dozen objects that are "just good enough" to pass the pre-validation stage, but I then fix them one by one during the actual import test as they fail to get imported
so I'd either have to turn a dozen objects into global variables (which is madness) or keep it like it is currently

Q: Which helmet is this character wearing in Star Trek Online?

Gerald SchneiderWhich helmet is this? The visor consistently scrolls to the side, like the Intel Uniform visor, but over the whole frontal surface. The upper part of the uniform seems to be the Terran Task Force Armor, but the helmet doesn't match. I already looked through this list and the costumes from th...

I've had similar (though probably smaller) problems. I tend to have a helper thing that initializes the object graph and then different unit tests to prod at different bits of the configuration
Helps keep the unit tests clean and helps you zoom in on what an issue is if only some of them fail
Course, not always an option

@Elva That's not really an option here because there are multiple errors that are based on the the same field, so I can't just have a helper method that instantiates the entire graph and then write individual tests for each object
example: I have 3 errors that can occur based on the order in which certain objects from one part of the tree are referred in a different part of the tree

The order o.o

At least Eclipse has built-in coverage tools in modern versions, so it's easy to check if something isn't tested for

preps the codesmell hazmat suit

10:03 AM
@Elva No, it's data. we have business logic related to requiring a Build level as the first level of any lifecycle, having no more than 1 build level per lifecycle, and having levels in the order build-test-prod
Thing is, you can reuse levels across multiple lifecycles, so there is a subentity in a lifecycle that contains a link to a level as well as the ordinal sequence number of a level inside a lifecycle
So I iterate over the lifecycle associations, get the level, get the type of that level (which is an Integer) and then check that the first number is 1, that there are no multiple 1s and that they are in order 1-2-3
Again, that's business logic, and we need to validate that this order is correct because this order comes from a user-controlled source
Or did you mean something else with codesmell?

@Nzall No I meant exactly that :p

10:54 AM
@Elva Why exactly is it a code smell?

Eh
> I have 3 errors that can occur based on the order in which certain objects from one part of the tree are referred in a different part of the tree
That

Ave
@Elva yes
I was actually considering asking you and a couple other friends if I could come visit for a day or so

\o/

@Elva I'm not sure why it is a code smell. I need to validate my data is correct

You can definitly come visit!
If you want to stay over I've got space for that
@Nzall order of referring things? That sounds super complex

Ave
10:57 AM
@Elva yeah tbh plane tickets are no issue but housing is costly :p

Maybe it's the least complex way possible
@Ave yeaaaaaahp it is
Let me know when you start figuring things out, it's end of december right? I will probably be free from work during that time

@Elva let me rephrase that: I have an object Lifecycle and an object Level. Since this is a many-many relationship, there's an in-between entity. However, there's business logic that states a lifecycle needs to have exactly 1 build level at the very start, and that all production levels are at the end of the list
The in-between entity has a couple of properties related to the specific association, including a sequence number. When validating, I get the associations, order them by sequence number (generated by the export), then get the relevant levels from the import graph and put their type in an Arraylist in order
Then I validate this arraylist. There are 3 problems that can occur here: 1) the first item on the list is not a Build level; 2) There is more than 1 build level, 3) The object types are not in increasing order
There isn't really another way to deal with this

Q: ARK: Survival Evolved - Infinite loop on start up WIN 7. How to solve it?

zwitterionWhen I try to startup the ARK I am getting an infinite looping. It starts with a screen and closes it after some seconds. I am using WIN-7 with most recent updates. Seems to be the same issue reported in the STEAM. Dont know what is happening or how to solve it. Any guess?

thanks, me, being curious about why a thing happened and looking at the history
how and why did that change happen what the hell

Q: How do resistances work in ES Blades?

Our mobile app released with a workflow breaking bug last week, so we did a quick hotfix (literally one line of code that affects one very small portion of the app) and re-released it to stores.
And now, for some inexplicable reason, the entire iOS app is nonfunctional
Buttons don't work, combo boxes don't pop open, can't log in, etc...
And when reverting to the previous version, now it is broken as well. wtf is going on

Q: Can you split ammunition stacks in Resident Evil 7?

user238464On my second playthrough I easily reached the ammo cap for both pistol and shotgun (30). Is it possible to split stacks, for instance taking out 10 shots and storing them in the supply chest? The inventory space is limited even after the backback upgrade (+4 slots).

@Dragonrage @MageXy WELP GG TL

@Yuuki unless DWG's bot lane improves a lot, they look pretty exploitable. plus Jensen and Impact should fair much better against Showmaker and Nuguri than most mid/tops DWG have faced so far
I wouldnt write them off just yet.

@Dragonrage Yeah, Impact's great at absorbing pressure and Jensen's better than the play-in midlaners, but DWG got the play-in boost and IG's definitely looking for MSI revenge.
I can't remember DWG's record against SKT in the regular season off the top of my head.

@Yuuki did they recover from what seemed like a pretty mediocre summer split though?

Okay, DWG beat SKT in both regular split Bo3s, although they lost 0-3 in playoff Bo5.
The reason I'm bringing up SKT is because as far as LCK goes, I think the most dominant botlane duo is Teddy/Mata and if Nuclear/Beryl don't give up the ghost against them, I can't imagine DL/CoreJJ would gain more of an advantage.

9:39 PM
@Dragonrage I mean, they got to World's? IG's power level is hard to calculate because I think most people agree that they overperformed in their 3-0 stomp of FNC last Worlds.
Or at least, most people who watch LPL regularly.

@Yuuki basing it off of just what i saw in the playins, nuclear/beryl were carried pretty hard by the top side of the map. it is rather likely that they dont get as far ahead top side against TL, so if their bot lane falls behind against DL/CoreJJ, CoreJJ is a good roamer and could potentially snowball mid top in their favor from a bot lane lead

Both of the LPL casters that I know of (well one current and one former being Raz and Frosk respectively) hold that opinion.
At the same time, they went on a tear at MSI groups stage before falling to TL, 1-3.

Did you guys see the new World's theme? youtube.com/watch?v=i1IKnWDecwA

not yet, at work atm

@MageXy DO YOU GUYS NOT HAVE PHONES?

9:49 PM
The reaction on Reddit is that the animation was great and the song was mediocre/boring
My personal opinion is the opposite, I loved the song but thought the animation was confusing

In my opinion, it was always going to be super hard to top RISE.
The song was great and so was the animation.
(FPX confirmed worlds champ btw)

10:10 PM
My favorites are, in order, Legends Never Die, RISE, Warriors, Ignite, Phoenix, Worlds Collide.
I like the songs quite a bit for all of them, but the last two lost points for the animations which didn't tickle my fancy.
