have been wondering, is Fortnite the most popular game now because it's Fortnite with a Battle Royal or is it that Fortnite Battle Royal is the most popular game and no one gives a shit about the original Fortnite
Original Fortnite looks like it might be pretty good though
I dunno I think shelling out money for a full game is less appealing to the... younger... fanbase than a free game where you can get "just a few" hats once you have your foot in the door
So even if BR was intended to promote the full game that's not how it turned out obviously
So, I have this awesome modded server that I'm using to start a YouTube series with my online friends. Everything is perfect, right? Well, not exactly. One of my friends can't join. Everyone else can join and have fun but not him. To host my server, I'm using a ngrok tcp tunnel tied to localhost:...
Frankly though I don't see how chasing down the tiny sliver of CS:GO skin gamblers is more worthwhile than doing something about actual little children blowing money on Fortnite cosmetics, cosmetics with truly no value like their regulations want
@Chippies going by what happened in the Netherlands they are currently only going after those games where you can cash out random rewards. the basic thing about buying lootboxes with real world money is still being looked at to my understanding
I guess for lootboxes my point specifically is that gambling with the official lootboxes were the only reward is the cosmetic itself is not much less addictive
And cutting out the community market aspects eliminates a means by which consumers can become more aware of this
@Chippies Incidentally, a mechanic Valve tried on one series of crates and never again was that you could input a string, like a random seed, and before you opened it it showed you which four items you could get based on the seed (all weighted equally I think)
I think that keeps some of the fun while taking out some of the flat-out gambling
this just seems like gambling that can be gamified
find the best seed and gamble away
@quartata the point is that, yes, it's still addictive, but when the only reward is a cosmetic that you can only use for yourself, it takes away a ton of gamblers who gamble for the profit factor
do you think people would play lottery if you could win a certificate of winning the lottery instead of money?
you could still show off the certificate of winning, just like cosmetics
My point was that, in addition to removing the market value, there are things you can do to crates to keep some of the fun while making them less random
@quartata but less random is still random and it's still gambling
as long as the rewards are random and cost real money to try for them, it's gambling
and Valve will need to find a sensible solution for it
perhaps remove the real money cost from lootboxes (if the laws are okay with that, by the time they are finalized) and allowed them to be open some other way
or allow to buy all the cosmetics from an in-game store directly
my point about the Strongboxes was less about the money part and more an aside about fun for the player. finding a seed that has four items you like equally is more interesting than rolling 2d12
even assuming it's all free
TF2 doesn't have a gambling problem, incidentally, because it's impossible to make a profit off of crates
Keys will always be more expensive than the contents
Leaving aside unusuals
CS however has weird rare skins and that's where the problem emerges
Unfortunately TF might be going down the CS path in that regard
with the new cases slowly replacing the old crate system
we'll see
(when I say gambling problem I mean what you mean, real money gambling)
@quartata "fake" money gambling is a problem too, but from what I understand, the EU is worried about the real money gambling first and foremost
when the only way to get the stuff you want is from rng lootboxes, it's frustrating regardless if it's real or fake money, but of course with real money involved it becomes a much bigger issue
I just hope they don't get rid of the trading card trading, lmao
I recently put up all the cards I had saved up in over a year and made over 50$ CAD
I never did it on a large scale but in theory you could make big money off of trading cards by buying them for scrap and selling on the community market
my brother bought a copy of god of war from a used game store and they didnt have a cover so they drew one. on the back of a disney video game cover. im screaming
(apparently we have all of the things on one group (2 fridges, 3 computers that auto-turn-on, a dozen monitors) and when they did some work on the electricity and turned it back on yesterday the ground-fault-interrupt triggered)
(it's not really our fault that everything is on the same group because this is 3 rooms being on the same thing)
For anyone who was lucky enough to watch the gameplay or who's been able to find more info than I did, will we be able to fully customize our character in this game? As in, bone structure, how deep your eyes are set etc. Not only eye colour and body type but really everything I mean.
Is Shadow's super-powerful virtual computer project as fluid as they claim? Can we really run any software or game at maximum without latency? Some people don't believe it (I don't have an opinion about it yet) but the developers have very good marketing communication. I am rather divided between...
@KevinvanderVelden Is that reason so you can tie up pizza delivery boys in your basement in order to sacrifice them to the Blood God Khorn?

asdashdasjkdjasd DAMN IT @Yuuki
EVERY. DAMN. TIME.
At this rate I'm going to ping @Sterno by mistake about something not related to him at all, and he'll be all "WHAT'S THAT? SPEAK UP SONNY! MY HEARINGS NOT AS A GOOD AS IT USED TO BE"
@Exeggutor So the day 1 patch came out today. Folks are reporting the online is better, but according to one person there's still some occasional lag spikes. but their internet could also suck.
Additionally, they really dropped the ball on match customization, like to a mindblowing degree. There are two game lengths: short (7 point tie breaker), and extended (2-game 1 set match, like in the game). You can't play anything else, aside from in adventure mode. Online tournament is all just the extended mode.
I legit don't understand how Nintendo constantly fucks that shit up, but here we are
I'll still have a bunch of fun with it, but it shouldn't won't last as long as it could without the option for multiset matches.
@Exeggutor There isn't, and it's really frustrating.
@Exeggutor I agree mostly, but I just wish there was a multiset option. So: quick (tiebreaker), standard (1 set), and extended (best of 3 sets). Having the final match in a tourney be multiset would be great too.
aka limited options can help reduce wait times on waiting for a match, but in this case I think the options are too limited. The fact it's limited offline too makes me think it's just...well I don't even know :/ incompetence is the best word I can think of
When I was a kid I found an NES emulator called NESticle and the icon for the emulator was actually a scrotum, but I didn't realize that because I was a kid so I proudly showed my father how I figured out how to play Final Fantasy on the computer.
ew when i look at my monitor from the edge of my new glasses it looks like this but at least it doesnt seperate white to blue+red so thats nice ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How can I make the wiggles parts show up on my map? The one in the loop loop river place had a wiggler icon above the level and I found it, but none of the other levels have that and I cannot find any other parts. Paper Mario Sticker Star, by the way. ANY hel...
