There has been some discussion in chat about allowing "identify this game" questions if the asker can narrow the game down to being part of a specific franchise or series. This discussion is prompted by the following question:

For one, they're highly localized. If you view SE sites as an extension of SO's original purpose, being a database of programming experience for future developers, ITG questions are problematic because they are very unlikely to help future gamers.
@Beedrill Have we definitely decided what we consider eligible as a concrete piece of the game when it comes to game ID questions? Like, we now have discussion about a cheat code. What about a distinctive piece of text, like a location only from that game, or a character name, or a quote?
@Frank I'm curious what the asker means by "doesn't look like this game at all" because if that's the case then is it really a Castlevania game? They all look rather similar
I didn't mean to make a big fuss over it, I just thought there was enough information, I was proven wrong, I will accept that and move on. Forgot we aren't supposed to add media to those, again accepting that and moving forward with new knowledge.
@ToxicFrog And we do allow remixes. But that's still a non-memory artifact. Which moves it from fallible memory over to, "where is this piece from?" objectivity.
I personally see the audiovisual artifact rule as an expression of "we really don't like ITG questions and would honestly prefer that they be banned completely but that would involve a whole bunch of blowback that we really would rather avoid so here's a rule that should filter out most of the worst ITG questions so we aren't overwhelmed". So arguing over what counts as an audiovisual artifact or whether some criterion filters the ITG search space enough to be reasonable is missing the point.
@Yuuki very unlikely, but not impossible. I've had times where I'm trying to identify a game by memory and I found the answer because of some forum post where someone else was trying to identify the same game
In Injustice 2 on mobile you earn different currencies for completing challenges, missions etc. One of the main ones you seem to get from the daily achievements is a bronze shield kind of thing with a up arrow in it.
What is this for?
@Chippies honestly reverse image searches or just remembering a key feature of the game to google has always given me my answers. I've never needed to ask someone else
@BlueBarren that's the flaw I see with the current state of ITG's. If we have screenshots, it's super simple to find the game, which makes the question so simple, it may not even be worth asking
but there's plenty of people who don't know how to reverse image search, so there's that...
I also have the benefit of having a brother who plays games. We both played the same games in our childhood so if I don't remember it I can always ask him if he remembers

I will never use ITG on Arqade myself because I can reverse image search myself, and if I don't have a screenshot, it's off-topic. The whole ITG is useless to me
I wrote a small update script that pulls down information from about a hundred servers around the world. At the office it finishes in less than 10 seconds, so I set it on a one minute timer and let it run in the background
At home, the same script now takes 90 seconds to complete, and so the timer starts running multiple instances of them at the same time, at which point horrible things start to happen
@MadMAxJr they're things that helps those with adhd and various types of autism or even neurotypical people immensely, but they're pretty much in hands of everyone even if it helps them or not. It gained a meme value for that. I personally love it because of adhd, but can't use one because they're banned here.
@BlueBarren I mean, if we're going completely hypothetical here then this conversation may as well just be hypothetical as well. I'm just stating the fact that fidget spinners are, overall, bad in schools
@Chippies a problem of the teacher holding their classes attention. There are only a few scenarios where I can see it not being a teacher's course content or a students uninterest in the class. Examples would be a fight, or a lock down, something of extreme nature
I'm a strong believer of if a student wants to pay attention/learn they will make the choice to do so. If they don't they will also make that choice to do so. It's not a teacher's job to force them to pay attention or participate, it's their job to encourage and make them want to participate
if you're talking about college and university students then sure - they're old enough to know better and if they still choose to ignore the teacher then that's on them
I'm talking about elementary and early high school kids
that's where fidget spinners seem to be the most problematic anyway
@BlueBarren middle school and up isn't (shouldn't be) as big of an issue, because they should know the difference between having to do school work and playing with their toys and being distracting
children will almost always prefer their toys over school work and that's where the problem lies
"Doctor, the world has gone mad!" "What is it [companion]?" "Everybody is just playing with these damned spinners!" Sonic screwdriver sound "My god! It's a psycho-reactive device to harness and farm kinetic energy!"
if the phones are allowed, there's nothing a teacher can do to get their attention and anything they could do would just piss them off more and pissed off kids don't work well
@BlueBarren if it's a one-time thing or they are the only ones whose phone gets taken away then yes, but if it's a school-wide ban, they get used to it easily
And the teachers who enforce those rules are the ones who are so boring that can't hold someone's attention hence ban people from doing something more interesting
then one day in grade 7 we had one of the faculty substitute for our teacher (like it wasn't an actual substitute but another teacher who worked at our school) and he saw me doodling all over my page and he sternly told me to stop that and I shouldn't be doing that
@BlueBarren I had a couple teachers (both were chemistry teachers) that most kids found scary, but if you got to know them better, they were just very strict because they cared for our education
@Avery Idk much about adhd. I have a colleague who has severe adhd and takes (a fairly large dose of) meds every day, he seems to be fine with the meds. You might wanna see about trying different kinds

High school was the worst 5 years of existence. Full stop. I'm glad that is no longer me.
@Ash I should try and switch to adderall but I haven't seen my phychiatrist for nearly 4 months now and really don't want to pay for multiple hours of catching up, especially because we've already spent a ton this month.
@Chippies I forget, when did you move? (Or maybe I've never been told)

@Avery well, no, you should speak to them and let the people with the training decide your meds, not you as you are not a doctor person and aren't trained to necessarily know interactions and things, but that's just my opinion I guess
@BlueBarren I believe I've been here for 4 years straight now. (I moved first in august 2012, but had to go back for a little once my visitor visa expired)
Me and my server's staff team are struggling for a quite a lot time with this.
Our server is somehow set to be constantly at 6 am.
More specifically, it always starts at around 6.20 am and when it reaches ~7.20 am it resets and goes back to 6.20, and this happens in an endless loop.
Neither me...
@Yuuki I didn't even know Adderal was a prescription medication but then again I'm not familiar with the subject and I may have been confusing it with Advil
@BlueBarren Advil is a painkiller, Adderall is basically a mild speed that was originally (and only supposed to be) used to help kids with ADHD/ADD focus and other such things.
@Avery I actually had no idea what bonsai (in the context) is, but I figured it was a form of drugs (thanks to the context). I was making a joke about bonsai trees :P
user15026
@Avery oh, yeah, I get that, I was more just stating that a lot of things are available if you look, generally.
@Avery Eh, Adderall and Ritalin don't get reported on my area either, but I'm almost 100% sure you can find those drugs illegally if you go to any private school or college/university campus.
And probably most public high schools in middle-income/high-income areas.
