@ToxicFrog Japanese curry uses a roux, so they make blocks of curry roux for easy curry making.

It's kinda like Japan's version of a fancy mac-and-cheese.

So all you need to do for a nice dinner is saute some vegetables and meat, add water, add some blocks, let simmer, and you'll have a nice curry for dinner.

So if you swim backwards, and change direction every frame, you can build up as much speed as you want

The original method for this was using a camera lock in WWSD, but they patched the method to obtain camera lock in HD

It’s as if a year ago, almost no games had daily quests (or streaks or whatever you want to call them).

Now they’re everywhere.

I remember daily quests or some equivalent in Halo 4, which was published in 2012. And I'm sure they didn't start it

I've seen daily login rewards for consecutive days, and rewards for daily quests/challenges, but never rewards for consecutive completed daily challenges

Realm of the Mad God (log in more days in a row, get increasingly greater rewards).

Angry Birds Transformers (log in for a week, get increasingly valuable rewards for each consecutive day).

And more. None of these games had this mechanic from their inception - they all added it recently.

That sounds mostly like daily login rewards, and not something that most games would describe as a "daily quest" or "daily challenge"

@Adamant imo, games with purchase mechanics tend to do special things around holidays because they know that players have more free time on holidays (no school or work) and want them to spend time in game and potentially buying things

a few years back it was like double XP or triple XP weekends

now stuff like overwatch is pretty much organized around special theme drops and lootboxes during the event

the "shards" is just a rare kinda word that seems connected to crystals. crystals are prominent in both sci fi and fantasy settings, so it's widely applicable

and it sounds more fun than saying "pieces"

"fragments" is another popular one

but shards is a nice and pointy word, and it's easy to draw some sort of crystal thing for the icon for it

and once one game does it, other people who work on games play it and see it used and "hey, we could do a thing with shards too!"
