All right, HP, SHOW ME ONCE AGAIN HOW WORTHLESS YOUR SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD SERVERS ARE

Sandisk players are known to have great sound quality and that one has an SD card slot

user15026
@Chippies No because I am stubborn and am scared it won't work how I want

But the live experience is best because it is a live show that takes live phone calls from real people. (Many of whom are very dumb and bad at calling radio shows, but many of whom are delightful and funny and awesome.

@AshleyNunn well, I can assure you that nothing is going to work like Apple does :P

user15026
(which is irrational and I am paranoid and I know that)

1:00 AM
TOM IS LIVE

Oh it's done
YOU HAVE DISAPPOINTED ME HP

user15026
@Chippies I just want something very simple that plays music, lets me sort by artist/album, maybe remembers what I added recently, and has buttons

I expected that to take 3-5 business days

@AshleyNunn I used an older Sansa clip for a long time and was really really happy with it
It was actually my first mp3 player

@AshleyNunn it does have buttons (not sure if this particular model has touch buttons or clicky ones) and the rest sounds like pretty basic stuff

1:02 AM
@AshleyNunn That's pretty much exactly what a Clip is

oh I linked wrong player :O

user15026
@SaintWacko I'd need something a little bigger (because I have a lot of music) but that actually looks like what I want

user15026
is loading stuff onto it easy?

user15026
(also, how in the blue hell am I going to get all my music -off- my ipod?)

1:03 AM
@SaintWacko yes! That's what I thought I was linking
google gave me wrong link
@AshleyNunn sd card compatibility

user15026
@Chippies oh, okay, that's awesome

oh the one I linked was a newer model
so I guess google didn't exactly give me a wrong link, just a newer one :P

user15026
@SaintWacko wait, wait, wait, radio? :D

@AshleyNunn ipod doesn't have radio, does it? :P

@LessPop_MoreFizz drinkingquest.com

user15026
1:06 AM
@Chippies nope

@GnomeSlice I own this game.

user15026
Also, this thing is CHEAP!

good of course you do

@AshleyNunn and known for quality

user15026
(I have no job really, so I appreciate it!)

user15026
1:06 AM
@Chippies even better

user15026
Oh, Bridge, I love you because now I can stop panicking if it doesn't work

user15026
@SaintWacko how easy is it to load stuff onto it?

user15026
(Did I already ask that?)

@AshleyNunn You just plug it into the computer and open it up as a device and copy music onto it

user15026
@SaintWacko Nice!

1:07 AM
@AshleyNunn acts as removable device

Or you can load things on through windows media player

user15026
Anyone know anything about getting music off a ipod?

If you use that

@AshleyNunn I think there's a way to set it to act like a removable storage, but I could be wrong and that might not apply to ipod classic
but Idk anything about ipods tbh

user15026
@Chippies I will have to poke the internet with sticks

user15026
@Chippies I don't need to move my iTunes library, I need to yank things off my iPod because a lot of my stuff doesn't exist on this computer

@AshleyNunn bah, Idk how them apples work :P

user15026
(a good pile of my music, for various reasons like moving out and relationships breaking, only exists on my iPod)

user15026
@Chippies No worries, I will check Ask Different and see if they know

user15026
and if not I will ask :P

1:11 AM
this is what I was saying about the removable storage @AshleyNunn

user15026
@Chippies yay! <3

user15026
This is looking more and more like I have an affordable solution :D

@AshleyNunn Best Show Music time is over if you want to tune in to good talking stuff
45 mins ago, by LessPop_MoreFizz
@AshleyNunn @Fluttershy @TimStone @ other people who care about beer exploits: lookit whut I have in the fridge

@LessPop_MoreFizz That sounds tasty. I tried a couple of new beers last night myself! They were also tasty.
Also, I took that picture last night. The Ohio River is flooding. :o It was crazy.

user15026
1:20 AM
@Fluttershy That does look pretty crazy

I don't like traveller, but three floyds makes very tasty things.

Ben
Suggestion: "How to read Minecraft Crash logs"

@Ben what?

Ben
In the similar fashion of "How to ask a good Minecraft Crash Question"
@murgatroid99 well, at what percentage would you say we get Minecraft Crash questions?

@Ben I have ignored, so I have no idea

Ben
1:23 AM
And in what percentage of those, the answer can be found in the crash dumps?

I just didn't understand what you were saying

Ben
@murgatroid99 well that would be an indicator of how many we got lol

That doesn't seem like it would be on topic on meta, so you'll have to ask in a way that's actually valid on main, like "How can I figure out what's gone wrong from a Minecraft crash log?"

Ben
That would be a better way of going about it :P
@murgatroid99 there is a question that is similar... but I don't know.

@Ben Probably roughly 50% or so.
It's a ton.

1:29 AM
Why is this on meta? — badp ♦ Oct 28 '14 at 20:26

Ben
The info I wanted to get was along the lines of keywords, what to look for specifically... so the Average Joe can figure it out for himself
@murgatroid99 Don't ask me :P
@Frank Exactly. I've made a vendetta against the "Minecraft Crash" questions. I want to do my best to get rid of them

@Ben While I agree they suck, you're tilting at windmills.
We'd basically have to give a primer in debugging code for people to understand it.
And there's no way people will actually read it.
They just want their problem solved.

user15026
@Ben That's never going to happen

user15026
Vendetta or no

Ben
Dang it
While I do realise it's impossible to get rid of them entirely, I'm just trying to find a way to reduce them as much as I can.

Q: Does Swedens UA work in team-games?

Shelby115Lets say I setup a game 3v3, and I'm sweden, will I automatically get the 20% bonus from having 2 allies?

@AshleyNunn Ellie kemper is on right now
if you're not tuned in and want to

2:07 AM
@Ben what I imagine would happen is we'd ignore all questions that are basically crash dumps and link the guide on how to read them to the user, then the user would half assedly read the link and ask a question and we'd just ask for crash log, because the user didn't read/understand the crash log properly

It's too bad we can't force a template for users to fill out, if they use a certain tag, and it detects keywords.
Not that it would guarantee they'd actually fill it out properly.

Should I say sorry for my rant earlier? Because I think I should :(
So, sorry to everyone about my rant/argument earlier. I feel I might have overstepped my bounds a bit :P

I have said it before, and I will say it again, asking them for versions and mod lists when they have a crash log that contains all of those things is almost literally useless

@RPiAwesomeness did I miss a rant?
or are you talking about Linux discussion we had?

@Chippies No, the Linux discussion.
I have my own reasons for using Ubuntu and I feel like I was a bit elitist about using Linux and it being far and away better than Windows.

2:18 AM
@RPiAwesomeness I don't see anything to apologize for, we were all just having a healthy discussion

@Chippies You don't? Oh good. :)

@RPiAwesomeness if there were more linux supporters in that discussion, it may have seemed totally other way around

It felt to me like I might have offended a few people, @AshleyNunn in particular :(

every time I talk about Windows, I feel like someone probably thinks I'm a fanboy and/or elitist
@RPiAwesomeness I highly doubt that
pretty sure most people take more than that to be offended here :P

2:21 AM
and it's not like you were just shouting "LINUX IS THE BEST, WINDOWS SUCKS!" :P You were giving proper arguments, which we were all discussing

user15026
@RPiAwesomeness irritated, not offended, over it because whatever, there's Trek to be watched (I tend to be of the fast burning sort of temper, it flares, it fizzles, I move on and eat cupcakes)

@RPiAwesomeness i am entirely offended by the fact that i was not listed at being offended

I find that you seem to think that you offend people here quite often :P

I do believe that I've got a bit picky about my OS in the past 2-3 years and I haven't properly used Windows in that period, so I really shouldn't be speaking on this point anyways :P
@MattGiltaji Well Good. That was my intention this entire time.
;)

@RPiAwesomeness excellent, glad we are in agreement on this :D

2:22 AM
@AshleyNunn :D And listen to bagpipe rock, amirite?

I, personally, enjoy talking about why Linux is better than Windows, because lately there seems to be a trend of people talking about how Microsoft is ruining Windows and how everyone is soon going to switch to Linux

user15026
@RPiAwesomeness Not at the moment, but yes

and as a windows user, that thought is baffling to me, so hearing from Linux users is good experience :P

@Chippies ... I have fairly controversial views on most things, and thus have the potential to cause offense quite easily.
@Chippies Oh that whole fiasco. Ugh. That thing has been blown way out of proportion.

@RPiAwesomeness if someone gets offended by hearing your views, it's their own fault, imho
and people will always find a reason to be offended

2:25 AM
I am offended at the idea that if I am offended it is my fault (no not really)

@RPiAwesomeness ever since Windows 8 was released, there's so much talk about how it's a crap OS, because they changed the start menu UI

@Unionhawk i am offended that you are trying to usurp my inappropriate offendedness

I do, personally, find that Ubuntu/Linux is better - but that may be just because I've used it as essentially my one and only OS because I can't afford Windows and because I'm a power-user and prefer to have the ability to control anything I want to on my computer as opposed to the guiding hand of windows.

@Chippies well i bounced from ubuntu after the unity mess

@Chippies Windows 8 is bad for other reasons

2:26 AM
where can i find an old fashioned desktop?!

@MattGiltaji Unity is much more than what changed in windows though

@MattGiltaji Uh...Slackware? :D

@murgatroid99 I am always happy to hear these reasons :) Because usually no one gives any

@MattGiltaji Or, if you're really wanting to go old-school and be a masochist, use Arch :D

@RPiAwesomeness yeah i want to have some time left over to actually use the computer after setting it up

2:27 AM
p.s when I talk about Windows 8, I mean 8.1, because there's no reason to still be on 8.0

@MattGiltaji ;)

@Chippies But what if you like even decimals?

@MattGiltaji That I really fail to understand any grounding in. Yes, I've only ever used Unity as my DE, but I personally find it very useful and usable

@Chippies The focus on non-mouse-based UI, the strange tendency of metro programs to restart every time you switched to another program
The fact that programs weren't in windows, and the flexibility that provides disappears

@murgatroid99 yeah, some stuff got moved to the metro interface, but most is still available through regular means. I can't speak of metro apps, because I have never used any
I didn't use them in Windows 7, don't have to use them in Windows 8
which is another thing I find silly

2:29 AM
@Chippies OK, I'll admit that you could basically run Windows 7 in Windows 8, but almost every change in Windows 8 was for the worse

people complain about metro apps, when they didn't even exist in previous versions of windows

Personally, I think Microsoft was trying to be ahead of the curve on the whole touchscreen thing. A few years down the line, it would have worked. But we're still in a computing era where computers aren't all touchscreens and Metro doesn't really work terribly amazingly (In my minor experience) with a mouse.

@RPiAwesomeness before unity i had a DE that had all the nice familiar aspects, menu locations, etc, of a windows environment but with the immense power of a posix cli and stability/low resource usage you would expect from linux

@AshleyNunn If you haven't found a way to get stuff off your ipod yet, phonebrowse might do it.

It's not bad as a touch screen OS. And, with some tweaking and a bit more listening to the users, Windows 8 can be a good OS.

2:30 AM
@murgatroid99 I can't argue that, but, imho, the changes are quite minor for an average user and the performance benefits are substantial

user15026
@GnomeSlice I think I have a way, but I will keep that in mind if it doesn't work once I try what @Chippies found me

unity took the majority of that away and made it hard for me to do work

@MattGiltaji Which one?

@Chippies The average user was forced to start in Metro

@RPiAwesomeness one of the gnome 3s

2:31 AM
The whole faster boot times and UEFI/secure boot stuff is great in Windows 8. I'm personally looking forward to Windows 10

@murgatroid99 eh, true enough, you do have to have some understanding of windows to switch it to boot to desktop

@Chippies Also, that "move the mouse to the right edge of the screen to access stuff" thing was awful

but once it's set up, it's basically a faster version of windows 7 with a different start menu

@MattGiltaji Really? That's different. Most people who disliked Unity seem to dislike the whole Gnome 2 vs Gnome 3 debacle

2:32 AM
@murgatroid99 yeah, that is something I wish I could disable. Hopefully in windows 10 I will
it doesn't bother me that much though

@Chippies It's the fact that they put it where the exit button is that makes it really stupid

From what I've seen anyways. Again. I joined the OS Master Race myself in 2011, fairly soon after the switch to Unity as default and really didn't start using it as my main OS ~1 1/2 yrs later w. 12.04.

@murgatroid99 oh that doesn't affect me, since my taskbar is on the right edge

I'm joking about the OS Master Race part ... mostly

Also, the fact that critical settings are there and it's hard for the average user to even know about

2:33 AM
so I never really go into the far top right corner

Not sure if the phrase "OS master race" is better or worse than what "PC master race" has become

@murgatroid99 yeah, there are some settings that are harder to find, because they're hidden in the metro UI

@Unionhawk ikr

@Chippies I meant like the control panel is only in that hover-to-the-right thing
I think

@murgatroid99 I don't think that's true, I'll have to check though...

2:34 AM
I have to say...the Windows 10 start menu and general design changed dramatically between the first dev build I tried out and the second-most-recent one (9926). The new design, IMO, looks really bad.

I downgraded my laptop from 8 to 7 after a few months because it was awful

right there it is

@Chippies Isn't that the hover to the right thing?

@murgatroid99 oh, I thought you meant the quick access menu in the bottom left corner
this is the reason why I don't want to go back to Win 7
most of the stuff I'd ever need just a click away

@Chippies 90% of those things are either in the Win 7 start menu or useless
Maybe another click away

2:37 AM
@murgatroid99 gotta go through a bunch of junk in start menu to find them though

I know how to get to almost all of those in a few clicks
Most of the middle is Start Menu->Right Click Computer->Manage

The buttons are oddly sized and the new icon theme is rather bright and garish

Task Manager is Ctrl+Shift+Esc

it's less of a resource hog than start menu :P

I don't think I've ever noticed a resource drain from opening the Start Menu

2:39 AM
although I doubt it would matter on my new laptop with SSD
@murgatroid99 resource drain, no, but it can take anywhere from half a second to 2 or more to open if the computer is at load
or even at idle on my old laptop
especially if you have a lot of folders in start menu
of course, it doesn't matter for the average user with a decent computer
I do like the simplicity and responsiveness of the quick access menu

Q: Where can I acquire Succubi/Liliths?

Oblivious SageWhere is a good place to farm Succubus (or higher variants, but Succubus is presumably the easiest)? I had decent luck farming Nagas from Hyperion Lava Flow - Serpent Loved by Flame, but I've spent a couple hundred stamina running the dark equivalent, Clayus Prison - Witch of the Darkness, and g...

it is also possible to add your own shortcuts on that list, but it's complicated and I think requires some registry editing, iirc
maybe windows 10 will add the option to customize the menu

@Chippies What do you mean customize it?
The sidebar things like My Computer and stuff?

@RPiAwesomeness add/remove shortcuts from it
7 mins ago, by Chippies
user image
this menu

@Chippies Ah. So the sidebar stuff like My Computer.
Oh, that one. I see.
Well, they've got the live tiles that are customizable off the right side of the start menu ... if that's anything.
And Cortana's search bar is annoylingly large and non-resizable.

2:44 AM
@RPiAwesomeness totally different thing :P
I like my metro start menu the way it is, tbh
it's basically my frequently used shortcut dump
being able to run metro apps windowed though might make more people actually care about metro apps

@Chippies Which is something Windows 10 is gonna have. But boy are the window control buttons strangely large.
I think they're still catering to touchscreen users ... mayhap to push their surface tablets..?

@RPiAwesomeness yeah, that's why I mentioned it :) Haven't seen the buttons though

@Chippies If I remember I'll pull up my VM tomorrow and grab a screenshot.

I see nothing wrong with making the OS more touchscreen friendly, but I do hope they add the option to customize it for desktop use

@Chippies Yeah. I think that's one of the biggest issues that plagues Windows is the lack of customizability.

2:49 AM
I'd actually like to have a surface pro, but they're way expensive

You can choose a color scheme for your computer! <-- Doesn't cut it.

maybe one day though

@Chippies Oh, heck yeah. I'd love a surface pro!

@RPiAwesomeness too much customizability can lead to fragmentation (linux distros) and compatibility issues

@Chippies And that's one of the flaws in Linux/FOSS. The ability to fork stuff like there's no tomorrow :P

2:51 AM
that's something I don't really have a strong opinion on, tbh

People fork projects way, way too commonly

with windows I usually adapt quite quickly
and I customize what I can, if I care enough to do it
but I also understand that being able to customize it more is a good thing
I do remember there being custom shells for windows, idk whatever happened to that
stuff that replaced explorer.exe
I remember installing one back in the XP days, it was a trial version
after the trial ended I uninstalled it wrongly or something
I couldn't run explorer.exe
didn't have internet back then, so I lived for about a half year without explorer

If people just stuck with something through the rough spots and fixed the problems and weren't so darn selfish over silly things like what DE to use, Linux/FOSS in general would be in a better place

I used task manager as my explorer
you can do so much through task manager's "run new task" window :P

@Chippies Ouch xD

2:54 AM
@RPiAwesomeness wouldn't that defeat the whole idea of Linux? Every single user having their own custom version of Linux? :P (exaggerating)

Yeah, I tried one of those out too. I removed it though, because I couldn't find any themes I really liked :P

I haven't heard of anything lately that actually replaces the whole shell, though
usually it's just some fancy stuff like rainmeter, but I don't think it replaces explorer
just adds stuff to it, I think...
I could be wrong though

Replaces the whole thing? No. Theme it, yes. Window Blinds is one I think...there was another one I can't remember now

I think maybe the option to replace the shell was removed after XP
or maybe too much stuff relies on explorer.exe in newer windows versions

Perhaps. I haven't really used Windows after XP on a computer I can tweak :D
