Q: What uses do black, grey, and brown woolen sheep have?

In Minecraft you can find grey,brown,white and black sheep naturally in the wild. What uses do the grey, brown and black woolen sheep have? As far as I have concluded they aren't worth anything when dying. Do these specific colors have any special purposes? Potions or something?

I don't understand why it's down voted so much.

I want to make it a better question.

Any ideas?

@YoungGuilo It is downvoted because you are making a needless assumption that those colors have specific uses rather than the simple "Because those are natural sheep colors"

It's probably because in the eyes of folk, it's probably not a very useful question. Perhaps because it's founded on a premise of expecting that wild black, grey, and brown sheep are any bit different from white sheep.

That is why I downvoted at least.

The reality is that without any not-color difference between the colors of sheep, there's no reason to have this premise - and there's nothing that indicates that there should be a not-color difference. Ergo, people don't think the question is useful.

You're assuming downvotes are based off of the legitimacy of the question.

There's been a history of extremely poor questions asked across the network, especially on Stack Overflow, where an expert drops by with waaay more information than necessary but essentially it's a great resource. Things with negative votes on the question but double digit positive votes on such an answer.

(1) Why not just ask what all of the color combinations are?

@GraceNote Because that would result in a rampaging mob that it is "too broad".

There's no real benefit to the system to focus specifically on brown as a source.

Q: What dyes are now available in Minecraft?

Notch just updated the game and reintroduced dyed blocks - in the form of wool + a specific dye. Apparently there's 15 new dyes, obtainable through various means - but I can't seem to find information on all 15. What dyes are now available and how can I obtain them?

As a Minecraft player, I don't understand the question at all.

@FEichinger I'm at a loss to figure how we can remotely consider "all combinations with brown" and "all combinations" to be different levels of validity. Broadness is by topical scope, not by absolute quantity.

It's also 2 years old.

You have lists where the superclass list would be too broad to be useful, but then you have lists where the subclass list is needlessly narrow. This I figure falls into the latter.

@RonanForman if you feel like it needs an update you can add a bounty

@GraceNote Don't ask me. I just know that we have that come up a lot of times a "What are all the X?" question shows up. Rather than, you know, focusing about the whole "unmaintainable list" problem that it actually should be for that kind of question.

however, if the question had been "what are all the plants in Plants vs Zombies 2, and what are their abilities?" - there wouldn't have been an issue

it might have collected a few downvotes but it wouldn't have been nuked

But what I do know is that compared between "All combinations of a specific type" and the sublist "All combinations of a specific type using a specific ingredient", the latter is needlessly narrow.

We have questions that ask for long lists
