@MarkTrapp ...Are you suggesting that anyone playing the game should know which castle the princess is in? Because questions like that are acceptable.

So in order to ask a question on Arqade, EVERYBODY who has ever played the game must already know the answer?

The rules are vague, and no one will admit that - you two are fighting a hopeless battle; but kudos for trying anyway :p
<goes back to watching on the sidelines>

@pixel Look, if you don't want to have a discussion about the topic and are just interested in being a dick, you're going to continue to be very unhappy with how the site is run.

Q: Who sings the Portal 2 song "Want You Gone" by Jonathan Coulton?

user390480What is the name of the singer who sings the Portal 2 song "Want You Gone" by Jonathan Coulton? Thanks!

@MarkTrapp Doesn't seem to bother a bunch of other people I see around here.

@MarkTrapp Nothing like that at all, you just implied that the font question was off topic because of a reason that was instantly disproved with @GnomeSlicE's very next comment. I resent being called a dick since I'm trying to point out the gapingly obvious flaw in everything you've said to try and convince me so far
@MarkTrapp I am completely open to being disproved, I'm just waiting for you to do it.

4:02 AM
@pixel What? I didn't disprove shit.

user2334
Those people aren't the ones who are flipping out about font identification questions getting closed. If you want to just berate people who disagree with you about the closing of questions, by all means @GnomeSlicE and @pixel I'll block you and you can keep pinging me all night long if it'll make you guys feel better.

I wish I knew how to link multiple comments

@MarkTrapp ...I'm being polite. I am also not 'flipping out'.

user2334
Doesn't really bother me either way if you guys get it or not

@MarkTrapp I wasn't the one calling people a dick for having an opinion.

4:04 AM
@MarkTrapp Okay, hang on there man, 'get it'? "Well, those guys just don't get that they're wrong" type thing?
I've been polite all night, and I'd appreciate the same in return.

@MarkTrapp By all means, block me, I actually don't care. This site wants contributions but rejects them immediately after seemingly because at that moment of the day nobody wanted to answer it. I am fine with rules, I'm fine with scopes, but neither have been defined even though I've asked multiple times. You just resulted for insults and completely misread me "flipping out" when I'm pointing out the obvious contridiction that is going on currently.

@pixel You should write a meta post.
I'm guessing he blocked me a while ago, which is unfortunate, but says a little about his mentality on the subject... =[

@GnomeSlicE there is no point, see my 'brick walled' comment right at the start. Second somebody misinterprets anything it gets immediately shot down without discussion.

@pixel I have felt this has been going on for quite a while.
I've often been at the receiving end.

Man, I miss all the good arguments.

4:08 AM
@GnomeSlicE these aren't even my questions I'm fighting for, I'm not personally attached to them in any way, people trying to hold the high ground based on contradictions annoy me though.

@OrigamiRobot Oh man, this one was actually good too.
@pixel THIS. ME. YOU. I DO.

And after all of this, I'm still none the wiser about this legendary "scope".
Other than it means "what we can be bothered with at that given moment"
and I really would like to be enlightened on that...

Do you have a specific question?
Also, yes, everyone here is very opinionated.

user15026
@pixel The FAQ does help explain. It really does.

@Pixel to be honest, I don't agree with 100% of what you said, or maybe it was just the way you said it. Scope is hard to define and video games are easily the most difficult topic on the network so far to define a clean scope by. We do the best we can, but I agree with you that it does seem to 'shift' depending on game popularity and whether or not a post contains 'flag words' like 'font'.

4:11 AM
CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? <3

@OrigamiRobot ...I'm not.
Maybe I am.

user15026
@Shinrai I like this plan. Cupcakes for everyone. Cupcakes make everything better.

@OrigamiRobot Did you see the one about the Pokemon font?

@GnomeSlicE I am of the opinion that you are. So there.

@GnomeSlicE if anybody ever agrees with me 100% then the fabric of space time itself will rip

4:11 AM
@OrigamiRobot WELL THEN.

@AshleyNunn Bacon cupcakes.

@GnomeSlicE What about it?

@OrigamiRobot Well, that's what started this.

@GnomeSlicE I have noticed that a lot of people misunderstand the context of what I say though, and feel this is probably normally my fault.

user15026
@Shinrai Bacon cupcakes with bacon peanut brittle on top

4:12 AM
@GnomeSlicE I think it is off-topic.

We say it's on-topic, @MarkTrapp (who has now blocked us I suspect) says it isn't.
@OrigamiRobot Do tell. =]

@AshleyNunn Molasses. Needs molasses.

user15026
@Shinrai Yes. Definitely.

@AshleyNunn did we just become best friends

user2334
@pixel I called you a dick because you're acting like one. I asked you a legitimate question and you respond with "Are you serious?" You're also repeatedly ignoring everyone's attempts to get you to be more specific about your confusion, yet you keep throwing your hands up in the air and saying it's all mystical. I'm sorry: I made the assumption you were interested in understanding what the site's about, not using chat as a platform to voice your displeasure.

4:12 AM
@MarkTrapp if you have blocked me I would like to know, so I can return the favour and save myself inadvertently answering something that you'll never see

Just because something has to do with a video game doesnt make it about gaming.

user15026
@Shinrai Ooh, perhaps

user15026
@OrigamiRobot Thisthisthis

@OrigamiRobot Aha, I mentioned this earlier.

@OrigamiRobot I have to agree with this, as stated

4:13 AM
36 mins ago, by GnomeSlicE
@MarkTrapp 'which font is in x game' is not a typography question, in much the same way that some of the questions we get on the site with a game in them are not about games.

But certainly that's already the policy. It's just the question of where to draw the line, I supposed

Why should videogame enthusiasts know about fonts? Should avid readers know which font is used in a book?

@OrigamiRobot It also does not mean that it's not the most logical place for it, and that it ISN'T about gaming.

@MarkTrapp my hands haven't been up in the air once, no elevated pulse, no raging psychopathic screaming, nothing. If you interpret me acting 'a dick' then fine, I wasn't. You asked a legitimate question which I answered after the 'Are you serious?', guess you didn't see that.

@GnomeSlicE That is correct.

4:14 AM
@OrigamiRobot To play devil's advocate, say we had a typography.SE. (Do we?) Would you expect to get a decent answer there?

user15026
@OrigamiRobot Oh man I so used that argument earlier!

38 mins ago, by GnomeSlicE
@MarkTrapp If I want to know what font is in a pokemon game, and I google it, chances are HIGH that I will end up on a gaming-related website when I find the answer.

@GnomeSlicE IMO, the health questions are very much about gaming, but I still think this is not the place for them.

And so far, nobody has given any answer on this identically formatted question
If fonts are off topic, why isn't music

@Shinrai Possibly.

4:15 AM
and if music is, why did it get loads of upvotes

@OrigamiRobot I think 'health' can be separated a little more, but it's not the argument here
35 mins ago, by GnomeSlicE
@AshleyNunn Books aren't meant as a form of visual art, the presentation is not an integral part of the media.

@pixel I think it is/should be off-topic

@OrigamiRobot I see no mob VTC, no downvotes, no 'this isn't suited to our Q&A format', nothing

@pixel upvotes do not necessarily correspond to on-topic-ness. Portal 2 is a popular game, and people probably vote because they want to know the answer, not because it belongs here

@pixel Refresh, he just voted on it.

4:16 AM
@OrigamiRobot My personal opinion is that you'd be likelier to get better answers here than there. (And indeed it did get a good answer here). Now, that doesn't automagically make it BELONG here, of course, but...

@pixel I voted to close and downvoted this question as a result of the discussion.

@OrigamiRobot Why? It's perfectly answerable.
34 mins ago, by GnomeSlicE
@AshleyNunn Mostly yes. But it's beside the point. A book is written by an author, edited by and editor, and published by a publisher. Those are all different people involved in the book. You could ask about any of them and still be asking about the book. Why is asking about the different elements of a (much more complex) video game any different?

@pixel you do know that VTCs time out and disappear right? You wouldn't know if it got 4 close votes the day it was posted

@murgatroid99 contradictions is what most of this discussion has been about, some of the people who've commented on that question are moderators

I'm just going to re-use my counterarguments from before because I'm too tired to re-wrote them, @OrigamiRobot

4:17 AM
@GnomeSlicE Answerability isn't the issue here.

@murgatroid99 its a pretty solid guess, since it didn't have downvotes until it started getting linked now

@murgatroid99 Downvotes don't time out, and since when do you people vote to close without downvoting?

@GnomeSlicE I do that all the time

@MarkTrapp @pixel Can we be adults for a little while, please. You're missing the actual discussion.

4:18 AM
@GnomeSlicE there are a lot of questions that I think "don't belong" but I don't think "are bad"

@MarkTrapp How was this supposed to be interpreted?

@murgatroid99 Okay, but honestly. You're a minority.

user15026
@murgatroid99 this

@OrigamiRobot You still here?

4:19 AM
@GnomeSlicE could be? but are you sure about that?

user2334
@pixel At face value: I asked you a sincere question to better understand the point you were trying to make.

@murgatroid99 I think these are synonymous. Questions that don't belong are by definition bad for the site.

@OrigamiRobot Any thoughts on my last ping?
For the record, I don't want the portal question to be closed.

@MarkTrapp no, I in fact expect that only a very small percentage would know what the font is, if any, and that the answer would require some research, just like any other question

@GnomeSlicE About re-using arguments?

4:20 AM
@murgatroid99 Relatively.
@OrigamiRobot The actual argument itself.

@StrixVaria but that's not what the downvote description says

37 mins ago, by GnomeSlicE
@AshleyNunn Mostly yes. But it's beside the point. A book is written by an author, edited by and editor, and published by a publisher. Those are all different people involved in the book. You could ask about any of them and still be asking about the book. Why is asking about the different elements of a (much more complex) video game any different?

Q: What is a GameShark code?

QAtashThis has always boggled me. Obviously GameShark and Game Genie never got inside access to place their own cheats into every game. I don't think any developers gave them the source code to pour over for codes. And I don't think the original development process for these games included placing any ...

@GnomeSlicE This sounds very analogous to Game Dev, not Gaming.

@murgatroid99 Questions are "not useful" if they don't belong on the site.

user2334
4:22 AM
@pixel How would you go about getting the answer to the question? What knowledge do you need to have to answer a font identification question like that?

@OrigamiRobot Well, it's not a great analogy, but I think it stands.

@StrixVaria Well, obviously you and I don't agree about how downvotes should be used, but I don't care enough to argue it. It may be that in general I downvote less than you do

@MarkTrapp like I said, I used google and got the correct answer in under five minutes.

@murgatroid99 It's not worth arguing about. Your downvotes are yours to spend as you see fit, and mine are mine the same way. Just pointing out an alternate viewpoint.

@MarkTrapp this is an important point though. Harder to answer questions are of more value to the site - you made some comment about Arqade not being a veneer for Google? Harder questions are rarer and more unique

4:22 AM
I hate to beat the dead portal, repeatedly, but here are some more posts to think about:
38
Q: What are the lyrics to the Turret Opera at the end of Portal 2?

Raven DreamerSo after you beat the main game and the finale movie starts to run, Chell's upward elevator-ing is abruptly halted by a quartet of turrets. Rather than shoot at you, they start to... sing? What are the turrets singing about? Is it Latin? (And even if it isn't, what are the translated lyrics?)

@GnomeSlicE So you think I should ask people who read the book about something that people involved in it's creation are far more likely to know?

6
Q: What are the lyrics to the song PotatOS Lament on Volume 2 of the Portal 2 Soundtrack?

Mark SzymanskiWhat are the lyrics to the song "PotatOS Lament" on Volume 2 of the Portal 2 soundtrack? It doesn't sound like English (though some parts do sound like the word "potatoes"). Is it another language? Or just gibberish?

10
Q: What is the redacted lyric in Portal 2's credits?

Ryan ThompsonIn the credits song "Want You Gone" of Portal 2, there is one line where the text is [REDACTED]. The lyric is either "I'll stop feeling so bad" or "I'll stop feeling so glad", but after listening several times I can't tell which one. Can anyone provide evidence for which one it is? Or is it amb...

@GnomeSlicE Nice, asked by a mod...

What do you guys think of these posts?

I would expect a mod to fully understand the scope
38 up votes as well
Not any more though

user2334
4:24 AM
@pixel If anyone can easily Google it, we're not making the internet a better place. There's no added value to our answer over the answers out there. Which is what I've been trying to explain: our added value is the expertise enthusiast gamers bring to answers. If a question doesn't solicit that expertise, it's off-topic.

@GnomeSlicE is on a rampage tonight

@pixel Only a small percentage of this site's voters are active in chat/meta.

@OrigamiRobot Hm... Interesting. But that's not what gamedev.se is. I still maintain that the gaming community is appropriate for questions like that. I mean, someone involved in the creation of Super Mario is more likely to know which castle the princess is in, but those questions are still acceptable here.

@GnomeSlicE I think that the lyric questions are different primary because the answers are completely contained in the game

@Fredy31 Feels good man.

4:25 AM
@murgatroid99 Does this make theorycrafting questions off topic?

@GnomeSlicE Do you expect an avid reader to know which font is used in a book?

@murgatroid99 Okay, that's understandable but... what about all of the questions about backstory between games in a series?

@pixel all of the information necessary to construct theoretical models are in the game

@murgatroid99 I hate to bring it up again, but FOR EXAMPLE:
41
Q: How much in-game time has passed between Portal 1 and 2?

KeenAt the start of Portal 2, it's clear that time has passed. You've been woken up every few months for physical and mental fitness tests, until something goes wrong and you're left in stasis for much longer. How long is Chell, your character, in stasis? How much time has passed between the end o...

@murgatroid99 how is a font used specifically and exclusively in a game, "not in the game" ?

4:26 AM
@OrigamiRobot This applies to so many questions on game mechanics and calculations - which are far better known by devs; but I don't see any justification to move them to gamedev either

@pixel Is the name of the font given anywhere in the game?

@Alok This is not the argument I am making.

@OrigamiRobot No, but, there's a general set of rules you follow with print-media, particularly in novels. Novels are not works of typography, much of the text in a video game is.

@GnomeSlicE So people are less likely to know?

@GnomeSlicE I am not trying to argue that the other question is off topic but that your examples are not closely analogous enough

4:27 AM
@pixel Well, actually, most of the fonts in games aren't exclusive', but I don't think that's an important detail regardless.

@murgatroid99 Is this question "in the game"? gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/76837/…

@OrigamiRobot No, they're more likely, there's only a handful of fonts used professionally in popular writing.

@OrigamiRobot Relating to this site, I parsed it as: I should ask <gamers> about something that <game devs> are far more likely to know

@pixel I already voted to close

@pixel It's also got 2 close votes.
Make it three.

@pixel That should really be migrated to SU

But I don't really care; I tend to agree with @pixel & @GnomeSlicE about too eager VTCs but don't want to take the effort to argue about it >_>

@Alok The more specific context is the implied "<gamers> are unlikely to know"

@pixel Ah, strategy questions. Welcome to my complaints about Diablo 3 character builds.

@GnomeSlicE I meant less people are likely to know the game's font.

4:29 AM
more contextual on topic-ness ?

@OrigamiRobot Less than what?

@pixel As I said, I'm not trying to argue that the criteria I gave should be the criteria for on-topic-ness; just that it makes the examples different from the other things we are talking about

@GnomeSlicE ...Than a book. These are the two situations we are comparing...

@pixel This is where it starts to get blurry, I've always found strategy questions, particularly to be really sketchy on the site.

@murgatroid99 the criteria you gave is applied inconsistently, which is the topic

4:30 AM
@OrigamiRobot Aha - ok, I missed that. I don't really know much about the overall font arguments; but I'll just mention that I specifically went and found out that Diablo font is Exocet after I saw it on the screen (and no, I don't have a general interest in typography though I've read a bit about it here n there)

@OrigamiRobot Well, yes, probably. So? If everyone knew the answer to all of their questions, we wouldn't need a Q&A site.

@pixel I'm not sure I follow

@murgatroid99 the whole point of me being here typing instead of playing TSW, is that people keep mentioning rules and scopes but they're applied inconsistently, seemingly based on who is online when the question is asked.

@GnomeSlicE Again, you are not understanding what I am saying. This is not an everyone vs. no one argument.

33 mins ago, by Mark Trapp
@pixel As I said in my answer, there are two facets of knowledge required to answer a font identification about a game: knowledge of typography (not gaming-related) or inside knowledge of the game (not gaming enthusiast related, at least according to current consensus). The fact that the font is in the game is incidental to the type of of knowledge required to answer it. SE specializes in attracting experts on a topic: if a question doesn't cater to those experts, that's what makes it offtopic

4:31 AM
Or, in some cases, who asked the question
Typographic knowledge isn't required

I also disagree with @MarkTrapp's statement that 'Inside knowledge of the game' is not 'gaming enthusiast related'.
2
@OrigamiRobot I must be, try explaining it again? Sorry.

Inside knowledge of games is gaming enthusiast related
2

@GnomeSlicE I also have to agree with this

33 mins ago, by GnomeSlicE
@MarkTrapp Wait, you think that inside knowledge of the game is not gaming enthusiast related? Particularly on SE, which is loaded with programmers, this is just a silly thing to say.

@pixel I'm not trying to argue for any particular rules. I'm not even sure if that font question should be on topic. But that is a general problem with community moderation: not everyone will interpret rules the same way

4:32 AM
@GnomeSlicE It is not reasonable to think a video game enthusiast know about the fonts used in the game. Some might, but it's still drawing from a different area of expertise.

user2334
@GnomeSlicE Then make that argument on meta. The two of you can star each other's feelings about it all you want, but as I said in my answer, it's currently the primary reason why things like "Why did they design it that way?" is off-topic. If that's true, and we stick to that reasoning, it cannot be used as the basis for our expertise because we've ruled that out.

@murgatroid99 everybody pulling in different directions is not good for Arqade
@MarkTrapp I didn't star it. Nice assumption though - just sayin'

@OrigamiRobot Correct, but so are the hardware questions, the questions about Steam, the health (gone though) questions.

Would you like me to star it so you can see it go to '2' as proof?

@MarkTrapp Would you stop getting all uptight. I didn't star shit. Someone else clearly agrees with both of us. I'm not attacking you.

4:34 AM
@GnomeSlicE Steam is specific to games, though. Hardware, I mostly agree.

@pixel I think we are on agreement on most things. We only have trouble on the fringes, and we just have a large grey area to deal with

@MarkTrapp 'why' is an opinion, doesn't matter if it comes from John Carmack himself, its still an opinion. 'what is <x>' is not an opinion, its definitive.

@OrigamiRobot ...Eehhh, but Steam isn't a game.

@GnomeSlicE SO if you also think it is unreasonable, why do you think it's on-topic?

@MarkTrapp Also, I never said 'why did they design it that way' is on-topic.

4:34 AM
@GnomeSlicE This is not games.stackexchange.com

@MarkTrapp I agree 100% that 'why is <insert opinion here>' is bad for a Q&A format, I really do

@OrigamiRobot I never said it's unreasonable. I said the things we're comparing are similar. I'm of the opinion that most, if not all of them are, in fact, okay on the site.

@GnomeSlicE ....You said "correct"...

@OrigamiRobot 'correct', it's drawing from a different area of expertise. Much like the various 'genres' of questions we have, currently. Questions which I think are fine.

user2334
@pixel "Why did they design it that way?" are definitively answered provided we have the developer on record saying why they did that. They're currently off-topic because the community has formed a consensus that "Why did they design it that way?" requires knowledge gaming enthusiasts can't provide: that is, inside knowledge of the development of a game. If that reasoning holds, it applies for all questions.

user2334
4:37 AM
If someone wants to make a cogent argument on meta explaining that the reasoning doesn't hold, I'll probably be the first one to up vote it.

@MarkTrapp Forgive me, but did you read his message?

@GnomeSlicE I want you to realize that what you are saying is questions drawing from an area of expertise that is not gaming are OK for gaming.stackexchange.com

@MarkTrapp The answer to "why did they design it that way?" is always an opinion, even if it comes from the developers.

@OrigamiRobot Essentially, yes. As long as the topic relates to gaming, the means are largely irrelevant. Provided it's answerable.

user15026
@pixel ...

4:39 AM
@pixel That doesn't really make sense. The developers know why they did what they did

@pixel Well, no. Now you're arguing semantics.

@GnomeSlicE Then we are in complete disagreement

@OrigamiRobot Oh dear.

@GnomeSlicE I can make anything relate to gaming.

@OrigamiRobot I think we're in disagreement, but I'm not explaining myself very well.
@OrigamiRobot And I was hoping you would know what I meant by 'related to gaming' rather than 'ANYTHING CAN BE GAMING'.

4:40 AM
@murgatroid99 opinions are not good for a Q&A format though, regardless of whether they're factual in context

user2334
@pixel No, it's not. An opinion is "I like strawberry ice cream" or "I think closing questions suck." "Why?"-type questions solicit rationales and experiences. They confer knowledge. I suggest reading "Good Subjective, Bad Subjective", which is a short essay on the differences.

@GnomeSlicE What do you mean then?

@pixel Either way, 'why did they' questions are bad.

@pixel that's not what opinion means

@MarkTrapp "RAGE was designed from the ground up to run at 60FPS because we did some testing and think it plays better" -> opinion
Still factually correct, not good for Q&A format

4:41 AM
@OrigamiRobot The best way I can describe it:
1 hour ago, by GnomeSlicE
@MarkTrapp If I want to know what font is in a pokemon game, and I google it, chances are HIGH that I will end up on a gaming-related website when I find the answer.

@pixel opinion is the opposite of fact.

answering 'what is this song' is factual
not an opinion

i.e. that question about the singer from Portal. Well, it's clearly about something IN the game.

@GnomeSlicE I agree with that, but that goes not make the question about gaming

It's not 'I was playing portal and I heard a song on the radio and who was the singer?'

4:42 AM
@OrigamiRobot how is a question about the music in a game, not about that game? And if its about the game, how is it any different from 'where is X item' for the same game?

and that's not important. We don't like questions that can only be answered by one particular person, which I'm pretty sure is the reason we don't like "why did they do it that way" questions

@pixel gaming does not mean "about a game"

@OrigamiRobot I think you're taking the definition of 'gaming' too literally. Where would you have them ask it? Particularly with popular games like Portal 2, this sort of question will be easily answerable here. However, I do concede that questions like this become less successful on less-popular games.

@OrigamiRobot a decent double figure percentage* of questions on this site are not about gaming, they're about games

@GnomeSlicE Answerability has nothing to do with it

user2334
4:43 AM
@pixel A question that asks for what a person said, even if what that person said happens to be an opinion, is not the same thing as asking for an opinion. The former is a request to objectively report the facts of the matter (i.e., what a person said). Compare "Carmack said X" to "I think it's X" or "I think Carmack would've said X"

@pixel And the playing of said games...i.e. gaming

@OrigamiRobot Oh? Do tell.

* = this is a wild guess that is probably fairly accurate
@MarkTrapp I agree, but surely every single one of those questions is off topic, then again, I've never disputed 'why' questions as on topic.

user2334
@pixel No, they aren't off-topic. This would work a lot better if you read the things I link to you. This is completely explained in Good Subjective, Bad Subjective.

@GnomeSlicE How about this, should I be able to ask "What is the font used on the ATMega128 microcontroller?" on EE.SE? It is answerable and related to electronics in that it's something on a microcontroller.

4:46 AM
@OrigamiRobot You seemed to think otherwise earlier.

@GnomeSlicE Understanding plot is part of gaming.

@OrigamiRobot I don't even know what that means. But essentially, what you're saying is 'this wouldn't work elsewhere, so we shouldn't allow it here'.

Personally I think Identify this Font questions are A) About a game or are gaming related, and B) are answerable with a single, verifiable answer. The C) Requires a specific expertise is not necessarily true. Using tools like What the Font circumvent the need for this expertise

@GnomeSlicE Not at all. I am trying to get you to understand why it wouldn't work there.

@MarkTrapp I am not going to retrospectively find questions that demonstrate those guidelines don't get followed well around here, but I will save ones that I find in future.

4:48 AM
This is what analogies are for.

@OrigamiRobot To be quite honest, it's not working.

@GnomeSlicE What do fonts have to do with playing a game or understanding the story (if any) it is trying to tell?

@OrigamiRobot I'm curious what your thoughts are on the three linked posts after this message: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/5367643#5367643

@GnomeSlicE I do not like them.

@pixel Please create a meta question with your argument when you do.

4:50 AM
@OrigamiRobot I'm still of the opinion that it's about a game, and a gaming related site is where the answer is eventually likely to be located for these things.

@MarkTrapp I'd rather not, I've already stated my reasoning why

@GnomeSlicE Please answer my question.

user2334
@pixel Then expect any future references to fall on mostly deaf ears. Be the change you wish to see in the world

@OrigamiRobot Oops.
@OrigamiRobot No more than a hardware question, or a question about the platform. Both of which are perfectly acceptable here.

@MarkTrapp I'm not going to fight against establishments that're stuck in their ways. On which note, I'm going to go and play games.

4:51 AM
Maybe less than those, to be honest.
@MarkTrapp This is not as easy as it sounds, you know.

@pixel please don't reject meta as a way to achieve consensus just because we are having trouble reaching an agreement here

@GnomeSlicE You are doing this thing where you are applying the views of others on other subjects to my views here. Please do not do that.

@OrigamiRobot ...Sorry. I must have lost track of my argument.
I'm not even sure what you mean.

@murgatroid99 unfortunately, there is clearly at least one group of people here who will readily support people within said groups without looking at the bigger picture

@GnomeSlicE Understandable with so much going on.
@GnomeSlicE I never said I though those other things were on-topic.

4:53 AM
@OrigamiRobot 'Font's have nothing to do with playing a game. But a font from a specific game does.

@GnomeSlicE How so? How does knowing the font help you play the game?

Q: Why does my mission marker dissapear in Saints Row 3?

NickWhen im doing a mission....great example the mission im on now "Live! With Killbane". I put the transmitters on the towers and followed the van and then im suppose to head to the interview? The mission marker shows up on some building that i fly to and then after i land on the building it disappe...

@OrigamiRobot ...To be blunt, How not-so?

@pixel I think we all just see the big picture differently. And we probably need the structure of a meta question to get all of the differing opinions and arguments organized and understandable

I just don't see where the distinction is being made.

4:54 AM
@GnomeSlicE Give me an example of how it does.

I do agree that most of the 'what font is ___' questions have pretty shitty answers.

We had an question a couple weeks ago; the question asker was arguing that the font supplied was not exactly what was being used.

Actually, I may have changed my mind about the font question, suddenly, but not the music ones.

@pixel to be honest, I'm still on the fence on this one. But it's hard to have an orderly extended argument in a setting like this where the messages just go by and disappear

@GnomeSlicE Baby steps.

Q: What font is used in the codec screens in Metal Gear Solid 4?

GaryWhat's the font used in Metal Gear Solid 4 for both the subtitles and Codec screens?

Those two answers are terrible.

I wasn't arguing, I was discussing. I've been called a dick, accused of arguing, flipping out, had incorrect assumptions made against me, all from senior people here.

@OrigamiRobot I maintain that the ones about music are perfectly acceptable.

It's not the first time either.

@GnomeSlicE Don't get off track. (lol)

@pixel Welcome, brother. =]
@OrigamiRobot ?

4:57 AM
it would be sister, but that's another thing I've stopped caring about correcting

@GnomeSlicE We are talking about fonts.

@OrigamiRobot We were talking about a ton of different stuff.

@GnomeSlicE You and I were not.

I think the font questions might be less answerable than I thought at first.

@GnomeSlicE Answerability is not the issue.

4:58 AM
@pixel sorry if I made bad assumptions. I saw people trying to convince each other to change their opinions, which is what I would call arguing. The point is that this argument will go nowhere without the structure of a meta question.

@OrigamiRobot It is in my opinion.

@murgatroid99 oh no, not you, its been mainly @MarkTrapp

@murgatroid99 downvote, flag, ban, downvote

@GnomeSlicE It is an issue, but not the only one and not the one I am concerned with.

@pixel Even if individuals change their minds, we will never reach a lasting consensus here

4:58 AM
@OrigamiRobot Then we're arguing different things, hah.

@GnomeSlicE What part of the 3-5 times I said "Answerability is not the issue" made you think I was talking about answerability?
