Yes, yes they do.
I still need to beat Knightmare difficulty of Maid Samba...

You can record your replays and upload them to youtube from the PSN versions too, though they have pretty bleh quality
I don't even want to think about nightmare mode in Hitogata Happa
Kreuzer is barely possible on easy, and I can practically ace the rest of the game (on easy)

@Sterno it does have gigantic buttons.

@GraceNote is it a group of developers then? I couldn't glean much from their (google translated) site

and... a lot of ™s and (TM)s.

@BenBrocka They're a full circle, I believe, so more than one person typically. Couldn't tell you if the voice talents were in house or not, though.

3:04 PM
@badp If you so much THINK Dead Space (TM R C EA GAMES FOREVER) without giving proper attribution EA will break down your door and murder your family

@BenBrocka I showed the difficulty differences between the second stage of Maid Samba to a friend of mine once. On seeing the last one, his comment was "This looks like a Rube Goldberg machine of death."
@BenBrocka But... what about our Dead Space 2 script?

YOU SHALL BE SUED
@GraceNote Easy -> Nightmare in Hitogata Happa is crazy too
There's like 40x as many bullets and many enemies get new attacks

How about a sneaky prize draw right now? First winner of the Alpha Fund @indieroyale giveaway is @GnomeSlice. Congrats!
Ah.... anyone want one?

Hum?
(Also, congratulations!)

I already bought it.
Hah.

3:13 PM
@GraceNote So you've got PSN? Have you played Crescent Pale Mist?

@BenBrocka I don't yet have PSN, but I've got a PS3 that's kinda been waiting.
But it's on the list

Hmmmm....

@GnomeSlice Hum. I'm interested in only a single one of those three, so I'll let it be seen if someone else is more interested in the full package - they should have more precedence.

@GnomeSlice MY word.
Someones lucky today.

Q: How to optimize your chances to catch a survivor with your special infected?

AntoEveryone knows how glitchy hitboxes can be with the Source engine. Its a problem for Left4dead just as it is any other Source game (TF2, CSS, etc). But some friends and I have the feeling that it became even worse in Left4dead 2, especially while playing the special infected (more specifically ...

3:21 PM
@Wipqozn They were giving out five copies to people who retweeted it, and I was the sixth retweet.
Figured I had a goodish chance.

@GnomeSlice Recursive link is recursive

iPhone app iAlbums brings the nostalgic album sleeve into the digital era http://tnw.to/1DU7U by @nfm
@fredley I'm gonna pass on clicking it, I think.

town looks like an interesting game.

@GraceNote outrageous! Tons of great downloadable games

@BenBrocka This has been more because of a lack of ability to hook up the PS3 to the internet.

3:23 PM
@Wipqozn It's been out for quite a while on Gamersgate. I'm surprised it's actually still in Alpha.
@BenBrocka Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars.

@GnomeSlice: How is it?

@GnomeSlice Your browser would notice after a few tries that it was recursive

@Wipqozn No idea, haven't played any of these yet, haven't had a chance to download them. It looks like a more-modern-graphics dwarf fortress.
Which is also a game I haven't played.
I really only wanted it for the third game in the set though.
Wyv and Keep

@GnomeSlice It goes here: www.justz.info/mobilemoneymachines/ (← SPAM do not open)

@GraceNote Oh, act

3:26 PM
@fredley Trend is blocking that, so I'm gonna leave it alone.

@GnomeSlice It's just an ad, nothing too sinister

@fredley It's spam. I got spammed with that link multiple times

What's even funnier is that it was in reply to this:
If anyone is getting like a million texts from me, my phone is throwing a fit. It's repeating like everything. Sorry.

@GnomeSlice Well done for broadcasting that your phone's compromised

@BenBrocka Tell me you have SARPBC
@fredley It's not, I just have a shitty connection out where I live.

3:28 PM
no youtube I don't want no poker

@GnomeSlice I live in a city, and you can only get decent reception on one network
@badp tries to think of a humorous way to combine the words 'poker' and 'youtube'

Pootube?

Will YouTube MySpace?

Port of an old DOS top-down shooter.

I think you botched your link

3:32 PM
@GraceNote I certainly did.
Fix't.

Oh, that game

I hate it when ctrl+v doesn't register.
@GraceNote Why am I not surprised you know of it.

I don't see why you would be surprised, seeing as you tossed it at me on the assumption I'd be interested.

I wasn't assuming that you knew the specific game though.

@GnomeSlice Raptor and Tyrian are pretty famous

3:34 PM
@GnomeSlice I got it because it was free with PS Plus, haven't played it because I've been using the Vita

I got so drunk last night and when I woke up I'd started a business with @mistercw: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-02-28-chime-duo-launch-new-music-game-developer-echo-peak
AWESOME.
@BenBrocka It's for PS3.

I know, I haven't been using my ps3

@ArdaXi Oh dear?

Scalable quantum computers have quite a few implications on things like cryptography.
For one, RSA is easy to break using Shor's algorithm.

3:39 PM
@GraceNote By the way, you don't own a mac, do you?

And a lot of encryption happens to be at least partially based on RSA, including TLS (SSL, HTTPS)

You lost me at RSA.
And I'm no longer interested, so don't try to explain it.

RSA's like, the most common encryption scheme

@ArdaXi available quantum computers just mean a movement to post-quantum cryptography, which I have to imagine will happen fairly rapidly as availability of quantum computers increases

3:41 PM
@IanPugsley But really, that move should be happening right now.

I think Raptor has been the answer to 2 or 3 ITGs

So SHA and other cryptographic hash functions are safe from quantum computers, right?

@ArdaXi sounds like an ITSecurity.SE question

Googling for "Bunny Must Die" convinced me that the easiest way to obtain the game is most likely bittorrent :|

@IanPugsley It seems like a simplistic RTFM question.

3:43 PM
so I'll just say Cave Story is enough metroidvania-alikes for me

@badp How was Aquaria, by the way?

@ArdaXi why? The implications of quantum computing on certain algorithms doesn't seem overly obvious

@GnomeSlice Great up until the abyss, then I lost my save game

@BenBrocka "In contrast, most current symmetric cryptography (symmetric ciphers and hash functions) is secure from quantum computers."

3:44 PM
@badp It's a similar style of game though, yes?

It says that right in one of the papers I have lying around.

Would anyone like a key for the indieroyale alpha bundle?

Not sure.
@GnomeSlice Didn't Grace request it?

Most? So what's not? And why?

@badp Not exactly, she said she only wanted one of the games, so I should give it to someone else.

3:45 PM
@badp I said I was only interested in a single game, so someone who would want the full package would be more deserving.

@ArdaXi that's a pretty specific and easily-findable manual you're proposing people RTFM

Well I'm not going to request it if it means Grace won't get it.

@BenBrocka I'll just dig up the paper and then think about whether it's a good question.

not to mention evidence behind that would be pretty darn complex - I don't think it would be a bad question

@badp I could just buy the one single game, honestly...

3:46 PM
It's pretty important to me though since I just spent a lot of time implementing OCRA for security.

@badp the only legal way to purchase it does appear to be to buy one of a limited quanty of out of production CDs from Japan (which are japanese only)

@GraceNote I could just buy the bunle too.
@BenBrocka blech

And hence you see the inherent problem with Old Media distrobution in a global age
It does NOT work at any scale
And it kills indie developers so I can't imagine why Platine dispotif doesn't have digital distrobution

Yeah, but it's not like the developers are unaware of this or unable to fix it I'm sure
they're probably okay with it.
and/or have signed away their rights to independent/direct/digital distribution when they decided to go with physical distribution

I doubt it, it's probably just the distro model they know

3:48 PM
@BenBrocka The culture of that particular indie scene predates the expansion of digital distribution being big.

plus maybe crap is different in japan
@GraceNote barf
I certainly hope they didn't sign away rights because of it

Moreover, given that in Japan, they don't have to worry about needing to import stuff on account of being there, it means less need for digital distribution on their end.
Comiket is huge. The following behind it is massive.

but it locks out the large majority of the world's population from ever being able to access it :/

Does anybody want it or not.

Clearly we need to make stuff the japanese would crave for then request they have a brazilian SSN or somesuch before they can get it.

3:49 PM
scalability is built into digital distribution

@BenBrocka Something the language itself already does a fine job of doing.

which is why people translate it :/
I'd rather be able to buy a game and use an unoffical patch to translate it than be unable to buy it in the first place

Aye, and it's been the onus of the translators to work on the whole digital distribution angle, since that is where their work greater benefits.

but the translators obviously don't have the right to distribute it in the first place

...no it's not, the content still has to legally be availible!
It's the onus of the developer or publisher to make the damn content availible

3:50 PM
There's really no surprise then that Steam turned them down

The devs benefit moreso from the translated version being digitally distributed, but not so much when it isn't yet translated.

So...no?

@badp It's the same localization group working with the same circle, so, I would expect that they would've worked out the legal aspect in advance.

What I'm saying is they should distribute it in whatever language and let it be translated later, or get an offical translated version after the fact

agent86: if someone demanding "Provide me a link" is acceptable, how is using lmgtfy not?

3:52 PM
@GraceNote ...so why can't the developers apply the patch and upload the damn thing onto Steam's servers themselves? I can only think the only reason is they want to remain niche and difficult to get to.

killing the means of access prematurely by making it physical only ruins everything

@badp I don't know? I only know that Steam turned them down already.

Yeah, because that's the only way to distribute game digitally.

What game are you two talking about ?

@badp IMO that's what they SHOULD do and I would personally be telling them that if their contact form weren't japanese/if I had reason to believe they'd respond to/understand an English inquiry

3:53 PM
Besides why are you rooting for the game to go on Steam? You don't want any of Steam.

you three...
or four. Or however many are talking about.

@Wipqozn Scrolling up might be faster.

@badp I hate Steam, but I still like having games there because it means I can't lose them.

@badp I already own the game, so that isn't my concern, but Rockin Android's success is my concern.

"Bunny Must Die", a game we need to get so we make the relevant tag from it!

3:54 PM
Bunny Must Die and platine dispositif

@GnomeSlice Well, that's not really what it means.

And we have like 24 hours left to do so

The question was digital distro not steam, but steam would be even better

@ArdaXi No, but it means I can't misplace them.

@GraceNote Then go with Desura.

3:54 PM
@GnomeSlice It means you can lose them through no fault of your own.

Platine dispsitif's success and growth is my concern
That's not how Steam has operated :/

@BenBrocka It's also entirely possible that the cost matters are what affects it. It could be widely different how it all works out over there than over here.

@TZHX lmgtfy is snarky; asking for documented evidence of a claim may be pushy but isn't overtly rude

It shouldn't be, it's digital

I don't love Desura and I haven't ever bought anything straight from them except for indie royale's, but...

3:55 PM
@ArdaXi Yes, but I've never been a victim of cyber-theft, and I don't plan on doing so either, so I should be okay.

The physical publication process might be different, but the matter of making things work in a digital age (aside from rights) is largely the same the world over

@GraceNote No problem. =]

All of this stuff should be country agnostic, that's the problem

It currently ain't, and that's why I'm working with some import shops to try and get better stock to begin with, haha.

@Ian when it's the whole point of the question, surely a user can be expected to have googled the issue first?

3:57 PM
The digital side of it largely is though
"stock" shouldn't exist
limited quantities in a limited time frame is exactly why I was never part of the import stuff

The culture of that particular indie scene, though, the big Comiket scene, physical is where it's at.

This is where I kind of get tempted to say "hm why not" but then recall that my GPU won't handle it. It already struggled with the ME2 demo...

@TZHX it sounds like a downvote would be appropriate, but again, LMGTFY is a bit rude (some previous discussion one meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/15650/…)
