Time for another test of Wine and TF2

Mmhmm

Y U NO IMGUR?!

Gotta love someone who, while having issues with my plugin and another plugin that also does map related things, and both say they can't read the map list, he assumes it's a problem with my plugin.
Oh, and the other plugin is one of the SourceMod stock plugins (and my code reuses code from a different stock plugin)

12:06 AM
Via @Ronan

My god, I think I fixed TF2
NOOOO, I was wrong. :(

What's in the new TF2 crate series?

Oh cool!
If you guys sign up with this link, I get stuff.
Wish I'd known that earlier.

@GnomeSlice don't care for the song, but that device is pretty awesome
here @GnomeSlice, have a star

DJ Earworm is pretty good

@MarcoCeppi Apparently Annie Lennox liked this video so much she also posted it on her own Youtube channel (the one I linked to, actually)

@MarcoCeppi Who?

12:45 AM
@Wipqozn Guy who made the video I linked to.

@Powerlord ah, okay
Well I'm going to be judgmental, and not watch it due to his name.

@Wipqozn He does a lot of mashups, not just Annie Lennox videos :)

@MarcoCeppi no idea who that is either, although I assume she is the female in the video
in anycase, I'm off. night all.
may you dreams be full of horrors beyond your imagination
errr I mean

@Wipqozn You've never seen one of those?

Pleasant dreams!

12:47 AM
@Wipqozn I'll be dreaming of you, Alot.

@GnomeSlice oh my, is that an alpha invite Gnome?

@Wipqozn Unfortunately probably not, but you'll likely get into the beta
It will also give me a referral
Which I didn't notice until today

Does Siunsoidal imply "sine" function? Or can it refer to a cosine also?

well thank you @GnomeSlice. I'm off to bed. Night all (again)

12:51 AM
@GnomeSlice I'm amused I recognized the "ooohs" from Viva la Vida at the beginning

Wait, wasn't there a PS3 update just recently? Why does Sony's page still say 3.70, released back in August, is the latest version?

1:14 AM
Spend $2400 on new iMac
{ Steve head }
Play Minecraft

@Brant iMacs cost $2400?!

The ones pimped out with SSDs and enormous hard drives do.
(Hey, I don't JUST play games)

define enormous. :P

Err... 256GB+2TB

Granted, my PC only has 128GB+1TB, but it also has dual nVidia GTX570 cards in it.
and cost around $2300

1:27 AM
Nice.

I wonder if the two processors you can get in the current iMac are the i5 2500K and i6 2600K (or their non-K variants)
I should have gone for one with a bigger SSD, though. I didn't realize exactly how fast I'd go through 128 GB with apps and games.
I'm down to like 20GB even after symlinking the Users directory to the other drive.

Anyone else want to sign up for the next group that gets let into Airmech, and also give me a referral?

1:48 AM
Maybe, if you give me a quick rundown of what it is.

Back!

Yo.

Oh, shoot, I just closed the tab with my time on it. Really...?
That's like the perfect way to complete that joke.

Evening all.

@LessPop! How's it going buddy?

1:59 AM
So, did we manage to get anyone into the Diablo 3 beta? Invites went out today.

I think my girlfriend got one, let met check
Nope :(

hm
that was certainly bizarre.
I started watching a Starcraft game involving the player Jaedong. As soon as the caster said the "dong" part of his name, my computer BSOD'd, causing my speakers to repeat "dong dong dong dong dong dong dong dong dong" until my computer shut down.

Martin SojkaWhat would be historically correct manpower/citysize/tax values for the Indonesian islands at or around the game start of Europa Universalis III in 1399? @LessPop_MoreFizz I'm sorry I had to star that

@Mana Sherriff Joe is an expert on illegal immigrants I suppose.

Is that a satirical news site like the onion?

@Brant Nope, WND is a legendary right wing echo chamber.
@Brant Like, Joseph Farrah (editor of WND) makes Matt Drudge look sane.
WorldNetDaily (WND) is an American web site that publishes news and associated content from a U.S. conservative perspective. It was founded in May 1997 by Joseph Farah with the stated intent of "exposing wrongdoing, corruption and abuse of power" and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. History In 1997, Joseph Farah created the news website WorldNetDaily with the backing of $4.5 million from investors, Farah owning a majority of the stock. The site describes itself as "an independent news company dedicated to uncompromising journalism." According to its website, World Net Daily has a s...
> (Besides his Wikipedia misadventures, Klein is most famous for constantly repeating the stunt of interviewing members of Hamas and reporting that they "support" or "endorse" various American liberals, which proves conclusively every single time that Democrats are terrorists, by the law of transitive Islamofascism.)
> Anyway, their lawyer was Larry Klayman, who is not allowed to appear before courts in much of the United States because of his "total disregard for the judicial process."
> Here is a story from WorldNetDaily: "Soy is making kids 'gay.'" It is in six parts. The original headline was "A devil food is turning our kids into homosexuals." WorldNetDaily demands your respect! It is a serious news organization!
@Brant So, to answer your question... sadly, no. Not satirical at all. :( Oh how I wish.
Other headlines on WND's front page TODAY:
Yes, a terrorist really did help write Obama's autobiography, Obama-backed rebels killing Libyan blacks
> Hindus in Australia, America and India have been outraged by an Australian play that depicts the Hindu god Ganesh taking on Adolf Hitler in a swashbuckling fight over the use of the swastika symbol.
^^ Not WND. Much more awesome.

2:45 AM
Wow.

@LessPopMoreFizz Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven is an awesome album.
Of course you know this but I just have to re-affirm it

3:18 AM
Bill O'Reilly threatens to quit his show if Obama raises his taxes. - that might be the most impotent threat ever issued.
Quote of the day: "Although Marines pride themselves on being the most testosterone-fueled of the services, they also ferociously promote their view of themselves as the best. With the law now changed, the Marines appear determined to prove that they will be better than the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard in recruiting gay, lesbian, and bisexual service members."

Q: Side-scrolling helicopter shooter, rescue people

zaroseIn this arcade game, you flew through a cave or something with a helicopter. There were people to rescue on the ground (I don't remember if this was for bonus or a requirement). I don't remember much else. Screenshots would be nice.

HA!

@Mana ...that response just smells like oneupsmanship. Not only did you use an exclamation point (!) instead of my period(.), but you capitalized both characters, rather than just the one.

I just one-up'd you.
By video game logic it was actually quite generous of me.

Yo, so I closed that ITG question up there.
Are you angry with me??? :(

I've been convinced that all ITG questions should be closed, remember?
So basically, I delegate them to you and badp.

oh, right.

goes back to "new users posting coments-as-answers" hunting.

@RavenDreamer IT NEVER ENDS
(personally I'm convinced that all ITG questions should be closed too but meh)

Unofficial Rule of Gaming.Stackexchange: Moderators are Lazy. Let the userbase do most of your job for you!
>.>
Anyway, so I think I'm done studying for my test tomorrow morning.
I just realized that the reason I'd been having so much trouble understanding the subject matter...
is because our teacher has basically taken the following approach:
"You know all that hard, mathy stuff? Yeah. We're just going to handwave and ignore that."

@RavenDreamer Yeah, ever since I've become a mod I find myself scanning new user posts less and less often

Flags are god. All hail the little yellow window!

The game asked sounds like Choplifter, by the way. Funny little game back when it came out. :)

Best visual representation of "Be still, my heart" I've seen in comic form:

So, I've (obviously) been playing through all the New Vegas DLC because of Lonesome Road...

4:57 AM

and god damn is Joshua Graham a creepy motherfucker.

in Mr. Burns voice Oh, do go on.
/hasn't played New Vegas.

The way he quotes Scripture at length to justify his campaign to slaughter the (admittedly bloodthirsty) tribe encroaching in zion...
the way he talks about the pain from his burns...

And, he's Mormon.

TL;DR version: Joshua Graham was a mormon missionary who fell in with a dude who became Ceasar. Ceasar is a bloodthirsty warlord that has conquered most of the southwest, and Graham was his right hand. Until Graham lost a major battle. Caesar set him on fire and threw him into the Grand Canyon. And he lived.
He has since found his religion once again, albeit a... somewhat more bloodthirsty variant. He sounds like a vicious, amoral, avenging angel when he speaks.

5:01 AM
The Rasputin of the mid-west, as it were.
Reminds me of Talion A.D. in Deus Ex:HR.

@RavenDreamer less crazy, more violent

@LessPop_MoreFizz Just the way we like it! (right?)

@RavenDreamer Well, yes.
Also, you really should play NV. The writing is so damned good.
@RavenDreamer Did I link you to the 'grenade prank'?

@LessPopMoreFizz Have a lot of the bugs with NV gotten worked out?

Unfortunately, I hit a massive @$*#block of "Games for Windows" in my Fallout 3 experience.

5:03 AM
@Mana It was never that buggy to begin with, but yes.

I still have yet to recover.

@RavenDreamer FONV is Steam, not GFWL

@LessPopMoreFizz yea, but same engine. GFWL just compounded other issues I had with the game.

@Mana As of now, it's only as buggy as any Gamebryo game. (i.e. occasionally Weird Shit happens, but it'sn rarely gamebreaking and often funny.)\

5:04 AM
Like all my data being erased, randomly, when I had to move my save files to a hard drive so I could reformat my laptop.

@RavenDreamer So were Morrowind and Oblivion.

FO3 wasn't GFWL either, really. You could just ignore that part. Also, fallout3.exe (the main game, which you could simply start instead of the launcher) was DRM-free.

@MartinSojka but but but but ACHIEVEMENTS.

@LessPop_MoreFizz And I'm still bothered that physics gets recalculated every time you touch a nearby object.

@RavenDreamer But it provides such hilarity!

5:06 AM
grabs a single carrot; watches contents of mage's guild banquet hall go flying over room

@RavenDreamer At least objects rolling from a loaded world chunk into a not-yet-loaded one don't prevent the second one from loading its heightmap, unlike Oblivion, where that lead to big holes in the landscape. Damn, was that hard to debug ...

@MartinSojka That sounds fun!
I'm looking forward to Skyrim.
doublechecks the date
Closer to two months than three, these days.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Except, for whatever reason, GFWL failed to authenticate, so I effectively played the entire game "offline".

@RavenDreamer Yeah, happened to me too.

Which meant
NO ACHIEVEMENTS FOR YOU!
Or "me", I guess.

Tea is strong. Tea is bitter. Wisdom is strong. Wisdom is bitter.

5:15 AM
@RavenDreamer It's okay. In less than a month we get the end of Homestuck Act 5 and every single one of us will rewatch it until the year ends.

@Mana I predict it will be an animation, with music.

good prediction

okay. time for the sleepings.
au revoir

4 hours later…

@RavenDreamer I don't have Runner

9:52 AM
Oh man. Any server with tf_birthday on can use that infinite noisemaker? Awesome.
I loved it as a DR spy, spamming it while cloaked
especially if on fire
hm, nope, not true

Hey! We're finally starting programming in my computing lesson!

Oh nice, Game On! is up to 8 people for saturday and 7 on sunday.

@RonanForman Programming what in which language?

Pascal.

@RonanForman just regular pascal, or some form of object pascal?

Regular, it's because it's a theory exam

11:36 AM
ah I see, cool
well I'm off
toodles all

@RonanForman Oh poor you. :) It's not a bad language to learn programming with, just that its paradigm is rather seldom used in the "real world".

That was one of my problems, but once I know the basic syntax I can work other langages easier.

Not quite. You can work in other languages which support the same (procedural, in case of Pascal) paradigm easier. :D

Who here knows how to investigate a data dump?

@GraceNote Data dumps are just binary "blobs" in general, unless you have some special form of it. Grab a hex editor and see what structure you can find. Keep in mind simple stuff like "3F800000" being the float equivalent of the number 1, and you'll be fine.

11:46 AM
@MartinSojka I just need someone to confirm whether DBA is in the latest one or not. blog.stackoverflow.com/2011/09/…

@GraceNote Ah, you mean a database dump ...

We just call it a data dump 'round these parts.

Those should be plain text anyway, so why don't you just load it into a text editor?
Granted - one which can potentially read 1GB+ text files ...
... or XML editor, in this case.

12:01 PM
If you didn't want to do it you could simply offer that you don't want to volunteer. ♪

12:14 PM
@GraceNote One moment.

Thanks @Arda ~

If I recall correctly, I won't need to download it to check.
There's a dba.stackexchange.com.7z in there, so yes.

Awesome, thanks!

How can I ever bring myself to use this?

Win 8?

12:23 PM
@ArdaXi You're stopped by naming your computer? Naming a machine is fun! I mean, my display name here comes from the name of the computer I use.

@GraceNote I was referring to the horrific Metro UI.
This is the home page.
I'm not trying to use a phone, I'm trying to use a computer.
Buttons don't have to be 100 pixels big.

It's the same business as with every Windows installation, as far as I'm concerned - you have to spend several hours to cut it down and de-install all the crap first.

No matter what room I'm in, there's always someone trying out Windows 8

@MartinSojka Yes, but this is absolutely horrific.

Oh, that's the UI
Crepes, where are you supposed to put your wallpaper? How are you supposed to see your wallpaper?

12:28 PM
@GraceNote If you press desktop it brings you to a psuedo-win7 desktop
If you press Start though, you get Metro'd

Yes.

I don't want to glance at my desktop!
If I'm not running a fullscreen window, I like to have my windows arranged so that I can space off staring at my wallpaper, or that I can view it no matter what browsing I'm doing.

Think outside the box

Yeah, I'll think outside the Windows 8 Box... by sticking to Windows 7 for now

Good idea.
There's no way they're going to push corporate use of Windows 8 in its current state.

12:34 PM
Yeah, but it's still along way away from release. PLUS THE RIBBON HAS MADE IT INTO EXPLORER!
HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE EXCITE?!

@MarcoCeppi That cat should really sit in an Necker cube ... maybe.

@MarcoCeppi The only ribbon I care about is tied around Tenshi's waist, which I can't see if I can't see my wallpaper

@GraceNote Well, you don't spend the whole time in Metro - Metro is just the start menu replacement
@MartinSojka this is why my eyes are bleeding!

@MarcoCeppi That is exactly how.
@MarcoCeppi And the UI replacement for every app they can do it for.
IE, the control panel, et cetera.

It's a good thing I stopped using windows after Win 2000, I might actually be upset about this

12:37 PM
@MarcoCeppi That's a main function replacement that blocks my wallpaper. My current one doesn't.
I mean, even the Win7 taskbar has the decency to have transparency so I can still see the traces of my desktop on the right side of my screen.

@GraceNote You have the weirdest qualms with stuff.

@ArdaXi Well, I like my wallpaper.

I never see my wallpaper. I have 4 virtual desktops and each is full of other windows that block things

It's half the reason I look forward to turning on my machine is to be greeted by it. Smile or otherwise, depending on the selected image.

@MarcoCeppi I have two monitors like that.

1:02 PM
@MarcoCeppi You'd have been upset for Vista and Seven and Eight and anything else anyway
I really don't see all the difference between Unity and Win8 tbh. Both have a huge, overlay "start menu", just Win8 defaults to have it open and offers no shortcuts, while Win8 seems to be the only OS that seems to be able to do piping entirely in the UI.
I mean. Piping. That oughta be Unix's territory.

Dash is transparent and resizable though

EoA5 progress:
SOBS

Is it resizable?
I never noticed

Definitely looks (better?) different than metro

That's not how it looks in 11.10

1:10 PM
WHY DOES IT HAVE TO EAT HALF OF YOUR SCREEN THOUGH

By default that lens takes basically the entire screen

WHY.

@Mana WHY DO YOU HAVE THOSE FAT BIG FINGERS
WHY.

Is this supposed to be a Unity for giants?! It needs to be at least..............................................three times as small!

What is Unity in this instance? I assume we're not talking about the game engine.

1:11 PM
That's the gamer approach to UI: 14x14 icons are too large

@Mana ...he's absolutely right!

@MarcoCeppi Fair enough, let me take the 'basically' off

(Also I didn't realize you were a male model)

That's pretty metroy.

1:13 PM
@GraceNote (It's what I do in the evenings

@MarcoCeppi By the way - PHP can use prepared statements too now, and they add quite a bit of security to your interactions with the DB. :)

close parentheses)

Having "What is Unity?" not actually explain what it is seems a bit unorthodox. That said some clicking yielded that it is an environs of some sort.

It's still transparent. If you have a small resolution it full screens, if you don't it'll do what mine does

also brb fooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood

1:14 PM
@GraceNote Unity is the new desktop interface Ubuntu is developing.

@GraceNote eh, "it's what you see on the screen when you run it" isn't terrifically helpful

@MarcoCeppi The "desktop environs" said basically that.
Well, to actually quote, "A powerful desktop and netbook environment [...]"

It's basically comprised of the top bar, left "launcher" and "dash" which is opened when you press the Ubuntu icon or the "Meta" key

@badp I think the only thing missing from that sentence is "What is it (the second one)!?"

@MarcoCeppi This is pretty. Metro is ugly.

1:16 PM
@MarcoCeppi See, I can see the wallpaper on that!

@GraceNote I know <3 IT'S TIME TO MAKE A SWITCH
If that wasn't enough, you can also get really good help with problems

Unless you have windows open, then it'll just overlay on the windows :P

@MarcoCeppi I plan to launch the R-12 CROSS THE RUBICON eventually.

*RUBICORN

@MarcoCeppi Hmm... what's that site?

1:18 PM
Regardless of the proper name of your river, the ship itself is the CROSS THE RUBICON

No, I'm pretty sure the proper name is RUBICON.
but it's not a ruby unicorn.

@badp It's Italian. So obviously it's RUBICONE.

Rubicō

I think we're talking about "D-SEX ACTA EST", right?
eh... perhaps "BIS D-SEX ACTA EST" if I really wanted to mimic the current notation

1:20 PM
confuse

I'm not even sure what you're on about

Alea iacta est (Latin: "The die has been cast") is a Latin phrase attributed by Suetonius (as iacta alea est ) to Julius Caesar on January 10, 49 BC as he led his army across the River Rubicon in northern Italy. With this step, he entered Italy at the head of his army in defiance and began his long civil war against Pompey and the Optimates. Meaning and form The historian Frances Titchener has given a stylized description of the context of Caesar's pronouncement: The phrase is still used today to mean that events have passed a point of no return, that something inevitable will happen. ...
uh, I thought 'alea' was a neuter plural, instead it's a feminine singular. 'est' should've been a dead giveaway.

@badp As should the suffix of alea.

I am still confused. I'm not the one in my family who studied Latin.

@GraceNote I still am too.

1:22 PM
"The D6 has been cast"
._.

Oh, I see, I think.

ne'ermind.

I was trying to figure if you were parodying the R-Type serial numbering.
In Latin.

This is video gaming. Regardless, going from D-SEX to dice nomenclature is a bit of a stretch.

If I really wanted to confuse you I'd have said "DVI"

1:25 PM
That would've been easier to grasp.

I see, I see

Plus you should've kept iacta, not acta.

(Besides DVI means 506 in roman numerals, nevermind the modern meanings of 'DVI')

Right now it says the D6 is a journal.
Or a beach.
Which is what threw me off at first.

is this actually in Ubuntu?
I've never seen it
> We see you tried to email a diaspora handle. This is not actually an email address yet, but one day maybe it will. For now, you should log on to your diaspora account and try and search for your friend using the address they gave you.

Hurray, TF2 time!!

It should be possible to send status posts from non-real persons.
Well, not right not, but it could be implemented.
