RPN?
Rather Peculiar Namespace?

reverse polish notation

@RavenDreamer I think I've used JD-GUI before, and it works fine

2 + 3 → 2 3 +
2 * 3 - 5 → 2 3 * 5 -
(IIRC)

Hm.
@TimStone Oh, is that a decompiler?

7:02 PM
So it is.

import java.io.DataInputStream;
import java.io.DataOutputStream;

public class a extends vl
{
  public int a;
  public int b;
  public int c;

  public a()
  {
  }

  public a(int paramInt1, int paramInt2, int paramInt3)
  {
    this.a = paramInt1;
    this.b = paramInt2;
    this.c = paramInt3;
  }

  public void a(DataInputStream paramDataInputStream) {
    this.a = paramDataInputStream.readInt();
    this.b = paramDataInputStream.readInt();
    this.c = paramDataInputStream.readByte();
  }

  public void a(DataOutputStream paramDataOutputStream) {
Yeah, not terribly useful.
okay, wtf
public abstract class kx
{
  public abstract boolean a();

  public void a(rk paramrk)
  {
  }

  public void a(vl paramvl)
  {
  }

  public void a(String paramString, Object[] paramArrayOfObject)
  {
  }

  public void a(adw paramadw)
  {
    a(paramadw);
  }

  public void a(xh paramxh) {
    a(paramxh);
  }

  public void a(ep paramep) {
    a(paramep);
  }

  public void a(acu paramacu) {
    a(paramacu);
  }

  public void a(fi paramfi) {
    a(paramfi);
  }

  public void a(lc paramlc) {
This class makes 0 sense.

@badp oh, yeah, that's. yipes. Function names are sorta necessary.

  public void a(acu paramacu) {
    a(paramacu);
  }

@badp Well, I'm used to poking around non-descriptive code, so :P

I mean, this is a stack overflow generator, yes?

7:06 PM
Heh.

The original name of this class was probably OhGodShitIsPrettyFuckedUpPleaseSelfDestruct
or perhaps it's just the obfuscator adding useless classes

Why does an abstract
nevermind.

actually, the obfuscator just adding useless classes sounds plausible.

@RavenDreamer Did you really just ask that?

I'd kinda need to build a dependency graph to detect that.
and the result wouldn't be obviously visible either, with more than 26² classes

7:10 PM
It'd be better if it did mutual recursion all over the place.

It's easier to just buy Notch when he says he's going to release the unobfuscated source code for modders

@badp I don't think it's easier to buy Notch, what with shipping and all.

@ArdaXi Your shipping is expensive.

We're not talking about shipping me, we're talking about Notch.

@badp He didn't actually say expensive.
Also most countries have laws against it./

7:13 PM
@RonanForman Shipping notch is cheap?

@Powerlord Given that I never completed my thought... what did you think I was asking?

@RonanForman That adds to the costs.

@RonanForman Most countries have laws against saying expensive?

Seems kind of silly to try and limit the release of the source code, if you are going to do it. Someone's bound to put it in a torrent in a matter of days.

@sjohnston It's not about having nobody see it.
It's about having nobody use it.

7:14 PM
The thing is, a lot of the modders already are playing around with it.

Especially having nobody making money of it.

I'm just not sure what they've done to know that they're modifying "ItemHoe.java".

@sjohnston Yeah, it's probably going to be a shared license thing where you can get the source code for free but you can't use it for most purposes

@RavenDreamer It looked like you were asking "what does an abstract method do" or something like that.

@Powerlord It was going to be, "why does an abstract method have a body?" and then I realized that the methods weren't abstract, just the class was.
Ergo - no further questions.

7:15 PM
@RavenDreamer Yes, there's only one abstract method in that class. :P

Yup! I know what abstraction is! I swear!

Gotta love how it named all the methods "a" there.

ab·strac·tion
The quality of dealing with ideas rather than events

@Powerlord Well it's easy to understand it's the first method overloaded in twenty different ways.
the class names are a, b, c, ..., aa, ab, ..., aaa, aab, ..., aec.

@badp I'm just wondering if they really were overloaded like that in the original source or if they were separate methods.

7:18 PM
@Powerlord I guess they are

Well, it's certainly been obfuscated.

In base 26, that's bound to be 21,034 classes
(26³ + 5×26² + 3×26)

Sounds like the next Xbox system could hit sometime in 2013.

I dunno, some classes like 'b' appear to be more normal than others

A year behind Nintendo, but eh.

7:19 PM
the 'cv' class also does stuff
em looks kinda interesting
I mean, method names!

@Powerlord I haven't heard anything on the Wii-U in a while.
Or is it WiiU? either way..

@RavenDreamer Last I heard, it was expected sometime in 2012.

Q: A question moved from SO to gamedev

George DuckettThis question: voice recognition through usb port was moved from SO to gamedev. I'm not sure it's appropriate though, as the actual problem is sending keystrokes to a USB device pretending the program sending them is an actual keyboard. The only connection the question has to gaming is that the ...

Heh

Although given how little we've heard of, I expect late 2012.

@Powerlord Well, I'm not even talking about release date stuff. Last I heard was about GPU chip troubles.
But yeah, 1 year lead is pretty big. See: 360 vs. Wii / PS3.
Okay, this may be a silly question

7:24 PM
The PS3's trouble weren't really because they were a year behind, it's because Sony was charging an outrageous price for their console.

How do I post a new thing on reddit?
It didn't not not help.
It didn't help.

PS1? Launched at $300. PS2? Launched at $300. PS3? Launched at $600, or $500 if you wanted the gimped version.

Gdamn. Extraneous triple negative.

Gotta love Google's employee's response to questions about Ice Cream Sandwiches source code:
> At the moment I don't have anything to say on that subject
I bet they distribute the source the same way they distributed Honeycomb's source!

7:29 PM
crap. gonna be late. gotta go.

@Powerlord I'd just be happy to download the font they use

adios.

@RavenDreamer bai

Q: How can we be effective with the Huntress in Dungeon Defenders?

Mag RoaderWe played a couple hours of Dungeon Defenders last night, with new characters starting at character level 1 and getting up to around character level 7. We played on normal difficulty with 1 of each class: Apprentice, Squire, Monk, and Huntress. All throughout, it seemed like our Huntress was bei...

When'd the one-box tags become green?

7:42 PM
Are you on Chrome dev?

@Powerlord Google: Taking the open out of open-source since 2010.

They broke visited links.

@Powerlord Nice. Let's see what they come up with.

Sweet.

7:51 PM
It's probably a concession they had to make before extending Google Profiles to services such as Youtube - something they're likely itching to make

Aw man... I would have LOVED to see youtube comment threads with everyone's real names attached.

@Brant @BlizzardEntertainment Yes, we know you would.

But I recognize that this is better for everyone.

There, preliminary L4D/L4D2 support in this extension is done.

I miss L4D. I played a ton of it back when it came out.
Never got into L4D2 though... I don't think I've even finished all the campaigns.

7:57 PM
L4D2 now has most of the L4D campaigns in it, too.
I heard there was a bug in No Mercy that stopped the survivors from talking on the elevator down.
or was that up... I forget.

@Powerlord up
up to the roof and stuff

That's what I was thinking... it's the L4D2 first campaign that has the elevator down.

@Powerlord My game glitched on that elevator once. Was rather annoying.

Are the other L4D1 campaigns still in beta stage in L4D2?
I know Dead Air was for a while.
But I don't remember seeing a release from Valve saying they were finished.

@Powerlord They're finished.

8:16 PM
Do they have all the new weapons and whatnot?
(I'm not sure if that'd be good or bad)
Also, I didn't like L4D2's characters nearly as much.

@Brant They have the new weapons, but the L4D1 characters.

Oh, cool.
Reinstalls L4D2

Yeah, they introduced the L4D1 survivors into L4D2 with The Sacrifice.
Which is funny, since The Sacrifice runs on both L4D and L4D2, but you have the extra L4D2 weapons in that version.

That must be a big download, what with all the dialogue and stuff

@Powerlord And zombies infected.

8:19 PM
I think L4D2 was upwards of 11GB the last time I installed it.
@ArdaXi Oh right, didn't think about that.
Now that you mention it, I remember seeing Chargers in that campaign.

I have 7400 MB of L4D2 here.

I'd removed L4D2 at one point
redownloading it now would take...
7,400 MB, yeah
not counting shared files

@ArdaXi I suppose I should mention that I thought it downloaded abnormally quickly for an 11GB download.
Steam was probably just lying in its downloader to me.

Well yes in the download page I get "127.3 MB / 12,804.2 MB"
also nice to see Beat Hazard's still getting updated

As far as I'm aware, L4D2 doesn't have any shared files with other games, not even L4D.
But yeah, L4D2 now has... er... 12 campaigns?

8:24 PM

so what are the extra 5,400 MB?

The original 5 L4D, the original 5 L4D2, The Sacrifice, and Cold Stream?

I can't imagine it doesn't share content with L4D to be honest.

@ArdaXi 7,400 MB is also what Steam told me about the disk usage. It could be that's not an actual figure, but an estimated figure that didn't get updated over the months

@badp Steam having the wrong size for stuff?

8:24 PM
Probably the core source engine stuff, maybe?

@Powerlord I trust "12,804.2 MB" to be a more accurate figure than "7400 MB"

TF2 Heavy clips in dubstep?

@Brant Source Engine has different versions for L4D and L4D2.

Too bad it's not very good.

"7400 MB" just seems like the result of somebody typing "7400" in a form dismissively

8:25 PM
@GnomeSlice You're not very good.

@ArdaXi That's why I'm not a producer.

Whenever I build this extension, I have to build the "Orange Box Valve" SDK version, the "Left 4 Dead" SDK version, and the "Left 4 Dead 2" SDK version.

@Powerlord are there any more separate SDKs then?

Orange Box Valve being the internal name for the multiplayer version of Orange Box used by HL2:DM, DOD:S, CS:S, and TF2.

I think they released one for Portal 2 and another for Alien Swarm but I dunno if they're actually separate or the same thing

8:27 PM
hl2dm was updated to the orange box version of source?

@badp: Alien Swarm, Episode 1, Orange Box, Dark Messiah, Nucleur Dawn, Bloody Good Time, Portal 2...

ugh.

Oh wait, Episode 2 and Orange Box are probably the same
@Brant Yes, it was.
The only reason I need different SDKs is because I need features not present in the original, generic orange box engine.
As I understand it, I can link against the base Source SDK if I don't need newer features.
However, I can't hook client commands without newer SDKs.
Yes, they actually changed the C++ hook required to hook client commands between versions.

(oh, and I needed to hook the client "vote" or "Vote" command for TF2 and L4D/L4D2 respectively)

8:35 PM
Going to check out Xonotic. I'll let you guys know if I think it would be a good fit for Game on.

8:45 PM
This man's mouth is a guitar. Your argument is invalid.

So people have speculated that this Oct 20th there will be the TF2 Halloween update, just like previous Oct 20ths
Now TF2 crashes before you even get ingame!

This is great.

@badp Um, I'm pretty sure both TF2 Halloween updates have happened on Thursdays, and there's no way the 20th was on a Thursday two years in a row.

Today's Thursday though

Besides which, I'm pretty sure last year's Halloween update was much closer to Halloween than the 20th.

8:49 PM
(right?)

@Wipqozn we should totally schedule this.

@badp It is, but last year, 20th would have been a Wednesday, and Tuesday the year before that.

@GnomeSlice schedule what?

Anyway, time for me to depart.

8:50 PM
Later.

Bye!

Why doesn't VLC have some kind of beta?
I know there's the nightlies, but they're a bit too bleeding edge.

@GnomeSlice ?
I haven't been following the conversation @GnomeSlice, and I'll be damned if I'm going to have to scroll up.

@Wipqozn Xonotic.
My computer crashed when I tried to reply.

@GnomeSlice ah, enjoyable then?
IT looks likeit.

8:55 PM
Evidently the game doesn't like it when you alt-tab.

Seems like a perfect fit for Game on! imo

I'm getting some weird 'skipping' in game though.
Not much, but it's still odd.
Oh wait.
I was running it off of an external hard drive.
@Wipqozn I tried some single player, and it's fun.
It's your standard QuakeLive/UnrealTournament arena shooter.

yeah, which seems like a good fit for Game on!
The problem with some games, like Team Fortress 2, is they don't work well unless you get a lot of people to join. Other games require users to devote the full 3 hours to the game, which is time not everyone has. Plus if they can't make it on time, they can't play. Xonotic seems like it will be fun with only a few people, and that people can easily join and leave the game as they wish.

You should check it out, see what you think.

I plan to check it out at some point.
I'm busy with midterms until next week though, along with assignments and all that.

8:59 PM
This 'skipping' thing is really weird.
Mostly only does it when I refresh the window [changing settings]
And a little bit when I use the scope on a weapon.
I wonder if I was running the wrong one?
There are like 7 different versions of it in here.

Sounds intense.

IMAGE UPLOAD, Y U FAIL ME.
Oh
Imgur is under maintenance.
Or so they say.
Anyway, does anyone have any idea of what the differences between these 6 applications might be?

Q: Why do I randomly get more Estus Flasks?

KotsuI have noticed while playing that sometimes there is a loud cracking noise and my character glows white, after which I get an additional Estus Flask. Why is this happening? Is it related to being near areas where there are bosses? Example: I idled right before the entrance to the Gaping Dragon b...

@GnomeSlice The ones with x64 are 64-bit executables.
The ones without it are 32-bit.
The ones with dedicated are servers.
The ones with SDL use an alternative renderer. (Namely SDL)

@ArdaXi is correct.
assumes arda will star that

9:14 PM
Of course I am. (Correct, not starring)

Hello @Mana
would you be up for a game of Starcraft II in a bit @Mana?

9:37 PM
38 mins ago, by Wipqozn
I'm busy with midterms until next week though, along with assignments and all that.
@ArdaXi Is that good?

They probably have a good reason for the default renderer.
Stick with the normal executable, unless you're on a 64-bit system.

@GnomeSlice I have some amount of free time, I just don't want to spend that free time installing and playing a game I've never played before.

@ArdaXi I was running the 32-bit one though, and I have a 64 bit system.
@Wipqozn No installation.

That's fine.
64-bit will be a bit (teehee) more optimized, but not really noticeably.

What does running one of the servers do?

9:38 PM
@GnomeSlice Run... a server?

@ArdaXi teehee?

@GnomeSlice It was a pun.

@ArdaXi Never done that before.
Oh.

@ArdaXi I lol'd

Now I get it. 'bit'.

9:39 PM
Trust me, you don't want dedicated.

I'll try the 64-bit one later, see if it clears up the weird stuttering.

You're weird stuttering.

@GnomeSlice, talking about bits?!?
Oh.
:( I got my hopes up for a bit...

I already made that pun.

I...I didn't even notice the pun. That's a bit hilarious.

9:47 PM
It was a hilarious bit.

Q: Slimes do not spawn in SMP

evgenyI am having trouble getting any slimes to spawn in SMP. I have dug out 2 slime chunks with the floor at y=6.6, lit it up, and left it there for about 2 hours. Nothing spawned. Getting the world files, stripping all entities, and plugging them into SSP got me slimes almost immediately, in those ...

So many puns... so many laughs...
Surely The Bridge is a place home to comedians of the highest caliber.
So is that a no to SC2 then @Mana?

@Wipqozn Just saw that. Unfortunately, I'm on Linux atm while I study stats.

@Mana Stats? MY word, not a fan.

@Wipqozn That's a phrase, not a word.

9:57 PM
@ArdaXi I assume you waited until I couldn't edit it anymore to point out my mistake.

Always.
Anyway, no, I wasn't, I was preparing a snack.

Good choice. Snacks are awesome.

@Wipqozn You're a snack.
2

@ArdaXi I would have starred that so fast if you finished it.

Fine

10:01 PM
Clever girl.
I said I would star it though, and I don't want to be a liar.

@Wipqozn Like I said, watching House.
:D

@ArdaXi Understandable.
If you were a mod I assume you would just remove all the stars from messages which are either not made by you or not about you.

The TF2 Manniversary Update in a nutshell.

@Wipqozn ಠ_ಠ

I'm back. B)

10:13 PM
Aaaand still stuttering.

@Brant Lost it at hl2.exe has stopped working

That was a great touch.

@Adam Hello hello
Welcome to the site btw

Already been welcomed once LOL. :P

not by me though, and I wouldn't want to be rude
So how did you find our lovely site?

10:19 PM
how else? The parent site XD

@Adam Really now? So you're a father then?
we have a parenting site :P

no
I mean the site we're hosted on.
stackexchange.com

Yeah I know, just messing with you :P We have a parenting site and all

:P

Why are you pushing that site so much?

10:21 PM
BECAUSE I WANT TO SUCCEED @ARDAXI

Are you the parenting site?

No, but if I become a parent, I'll want that site to be there so I can tell everyone their advice is wrong.

I don't need to become a member of EL&U to tell you your grammar is often wrong.

You really should stop watching House.

No, I do not.

10:26 PM
lol House.

@Adam What's funny about that?

idk.

Woot, the abstract I just wrote has a Flesch-Kincaid readability score of 7/grade level of 17
eh, a couple abstracts I just measured get down to 4
a bit to go
and one has a -36 readability score

@NickT I was unaware of this score. That is rather interesting. Thank you for bragging about your score which in turn taught me about this.

10:57 PM
Right. Xonotic.
This isn't very promising.

@ArdaXi What's wrong with it?

It started at that horrible 800x600 resolution old games always do.
Let's try out the AI.
Yes.
This is good game.

you are good game

I know.
Anyway, this is like Quake Live but better.
And amazing graphics for a free game.

@ArdaXi What game you talking about?

11:06 PM
9 mins ago, by Arda Xi
Right. Xonotic.
Definite yes for Game On.

@ArdaXi has spoken, and so it will be done

@Wipqozn ಠ_ಠ
REALLY!?
@ArdaXi Mine started at 1024x768.

@GnomeSlice ?

@Wipqozn It only gets approved when HE says it?

@GnomeSlice It's funny, because it was approved before. Hence my saying it was a perfect fit for Game On!

11:18 PM
But you didn't say it would be done.

@GnomeSlice Problem?

@ArdaXi Did you get any weird 'skipping' when you played?

@GnomeSlice I am, yeah.

@ArdaXi Mostly only on the menus though right? Try using the scope on a weapon (middle mouse button)

Scope works fine.

problem?

I never delved into obj-c enough to find out

I assume they would be
It seems to think I'm missing a ")" before:

You need to be... anti-starred or something, for making me look at Objective C.

Sorry about that.
I'm aware I'm a terrible person.
oh wait a minute
THank you @ThomasMcDonald, can't believe I didn't notice the case :/

Q: What different versions of xbox 360 are there? What is the hd for with xbox?

BlankmanWhat are the different versions of xbox 360? What exactly is the hard drive used for, I see 4GB and up to 250GB. It can't be just for saving games now can it?

user30
@Wipqozn So NSSTRING isn't a class then?

@ThomasMcDonald NSString is

user30
Wasn't sure if it was some bizarre wrapper you had around NSString or something

@ThomasMcDonald it was the casing

user30
but yeah, Nero were pretty decent
