Hey -- in your video you position rings on pistons relative to one another. Is that really important -- that the gap of one is at 12 and the 2nd at an angle relative to it?

@amphibient - Absolutely imperative. The further they are from spec, the worse your blowby will be.

Another question -- when honing, I noticed that I got streaks (approx. 30 deg angle) and no top band of different shade on cyl 1 -- but not on the rest

I wonder if that is because the grit pads collected oil/residue from cyl 1 and were not as abrasive

e.g. chemically (alcohol or acetone) or with a grander and a flapdisk

I'm really not envisioning what you're saying, but realistically, with what you're doing, you're just trying to break the glaze and that's it. I'm sure it's going to be fine. I don't clean my hone stones between cylinders.

also -- i think i should have cleaned each bore chemically before honing but didn't -- how do you think that should be done?

OK -- I was suspicious because it is visible that cyl 1 has honing streaks and the rest do not even though they look clean

The big thing you're trying to do is break the glaze. Clean with WD40.

The glaze is definitely broken

Keep cleaning the bore until your cleaning implement is clean. You can use coffee machine filters to clean with.
