So, I got the GXP on a lift on Saturday. Found a couple of nice big cracks in the welds on my intercooler.

Side effect of having the thing on the very front of the car, 4" off of the ground.

Got the new turbo in and the transmission tunnel backing plates for the rollbar installed. While sitting in the car, on a lift, at the Mercedes dealer.

Got the new turbo on the GXP finally. I have a friend with the same model, same year, pretty much identical mods. for whatever reason he pulled 35HP more than I did at a dyno day a few months ago.

@3Dave - Is what it is. He's been sick for a few weeks. The vet said he most likely had cancer on his kidney or liver or something (wife knows the "what"). He's not hurting anymore. He's been spending a lot of time on my lap the last few weeks ... been getting thinner.

After the new turbo, I can easily slip past him on the highway.

He made it about a year with us before we had to have the talk.

Planning to try and copy one of my aftermarket vented fenders from the SoS this weekend. They're pretty simple parts, small enough for a single sheet of fiberglass mat.

My resin has been sitting on a shelf untouched for two years, though. Might have to make a trip to the store.

@3Dave - IIRC, the materials are pretty cheap overall.

I made a mold for a trunk lid a few years ago. It's still hanging in the shed.

But, that's a big part - hard to do it right. The fenders on the Solstice are pretty small. Much easier to work with. Just need to spend some time cleaning up the original part first. Making a mold is easy (after the first 30 tries). fun project and much better than spending another $400 for fenders and waiting a year to get them.

We'll see how this print goes. I have to print two of them, but don't have 3.5 hours right now to print both.

Well, it has started out well, so it should go just fine. The base is what's the most important part (where it meets the build plate) ... if that screws up, you just start over, because the whole thing is screwed.

If I'm making something out of expensive (or, in some cases, literally impossible-to-replace) material, I make one out of crap first.

@3Dave - Oh, absolutely agree. Nothing like a model to proof your idea/work, then go with the good stuff.

I'd rather mess up a $10 Home Depot board than a piece of quarter sawn red oak.

Last time I tried to get a piece of THAT from the hardwood dealer, they offered to buy my table.

The real issue is the "quarter-sawn" part.

It's like a bone-in filet. Mills won't cut it that way unless you request it. It wastes a lot of the tree. But, you get these gorgeous flecks and depth in the surface that are impossible to imitate, or to get in any other wood.

I only got it because a friend had to fell a tree and had an 18 wheeler and a crane take it to the saw mill. Literally, you can NOT buy this stuff in that cut in those dimensions (9'5x3"x11
