It has nothing to do with differentials, and nothing specifically to do with cars

It is a question about CAN electrics, which are used in all sorts of things, not just cars

I have a weird random misfire under high boost (and RPM) on the GXP. Any ideas? It's pretty rare. Also, a few weeks ago, it happened right after I got off of the highway, in the middle of nowhere, and took a 270 degree right turn onto the service road. Misfire, flashing CEL, worked itself out 30 seconds later. I was driving to an autocross. Car did fine all day, all the way home, and the issue didn't show up again for about a week.

Compression is good (165,162,165,164), swapped ignition coils with known good modules from the SoS, new plugs (~3 months), new HPFP (also ~3 months as the old one was obviously leaking)... Not a lot left to check that I can think of other than the tune.

I have a friend with a nearly-identical GXP - years, miles, tune - that does not have this issue.

Multiple Random Misfire was the code.

Followed by misfire codes for all 4.

Hmmm ... I was reading for a problem on here not too long ago, where one of the symptoms was random misfire

I've seen quite a few, but it's typically due to fuel delivery (pump or injectors), spark (plugs, wires, coils) or compression.

Oh, I also have new injectors. Which are not fun to change on this motor.

You need to monitor fuel pressure, but yah, fuel starvation could definitely be something which would cause it.

Is the hood on your car front or rear lift?

And do you have a wideband O2?

@RoryAlsop - It is strange EE didn't want to get rid of that question ... usually if it has anything remotely car related in it, they don't want it.

It's black.

Hood is front-hinged. It's basically @Ceshion's car.

Stock sensors are wideband.

107k (miles) on the car. Never had to replace a fuel pump before I got this thing. I guess that could be the issue.

@3Dave - I haven't done days like that since I was in the Gulf War ... it was exactly like that 7 days a week, 16-20 hour days ... only it was for about 2.5 months ... and I was a LOT younger then, lol.

@3Dave - I knew it was like Ceshion's car ... I just couldn't remember which way the hood flipped, lol.

Would make it easier to run a fuel pressure gauge where you could see it ... tape it to the cowl ...

Logging fuel pressure gauge? There goes... well, a third of the price of a new engine. :D

Need a CAN interface and a laptop that just dumps all of the messages to a file.

The rest is just translation and graphs.

@3Dave - I think you're just the guy to do it. You could most likely get the information from an ELM327 ... maybe

That's OBD-2, so MAYBE, but CAN is the better way to go.

Faster sampling, more nodes on the network, and the GM networks of that era ('07) has been pretty well worked out by the community. CAN is also a much simpler protocol.

CAN is the secret door behind the big chair that no one ever opens. Want to plug up a packet sniffer to your car?

You can make the HUD (if equipped) do crazy things, control the throttle... you name it.
