8:44 AM
Good morning!

9:25 AM
@Martin Morning!

@NickC Everything fine?

@Martin pretty usual tbh - you?
Am stuck in the office when I'd rather be at home, but that's nothing new...

@NickC Things are fine.
@NickC Same for me. We have gorgeous weather now, not a single cloud visible.

@Martin Not so here, it's grey, cold and windy!

@NickC We have that too, but only on weekends (greetings from a Mister Murphy)

9:53 AM
@NickC same here.. grey, drizzling and generally unpleasant

@motosubatsu Still, at least it's seasonally appropriate for the UK in March...

@NickC true!

Hello, folks! A friend of mine has BMW 535D e60, the car randomly stalls when cold, there are no check engine lights and any error codes. He changed a lot of sensors around still no change, checked the fuel system looks fine, also changed fuel filters.
Sometimes car stalls after 10 seconds of working sometimes after few minutes.
Any ideas?

12:20 PM
@AsenM any rough or "lumpy" idling?

nope
the car just cuts off instantly
there is no rough work and it dies normally its not like lack of fuel stall or something like that

hmm.. that's a very strange one, if it had been I'd have said failing injector
but running smooth and just cutting out suggests otherwise

once car warms up it runs smooth
no problems whatsoever

any trouble starting it?

sometimes it takes few cranks when cold but most of the times nope?

12:28 PM
glow plug controller is a possibility I guess
but that would usually throw a code
what sensors have been changed?

crankshaft fuel and many more

I'd be thinking along the lines of temperature, MAF, MAP, and O2 sensors
any chance you can get a logger on it?

Crankshaft, Camshaft, High Preasure Rail Valve, Fuel Pump Valve, Fuel Filter

also worth unplugging the connector on the EGR
and seeing if that changes anything

problem is the more we test things the car warms up
and we cant really tell if something makes a difference until the next day
how do you suggest we test those sensors on the "field"?

12:50 PM
if you've got access to an OBD II dongle and an app like Torque you can read the values the ECU is seeing from the sensors in real time - obviously to get the most use out of the information you'd want to be able to see the problem occurring (which means the irritation of waiting for it to cool periodically)

1:13 PM
thanks will try out

1:32 PM
any idea how many ohms the injectors should read?
it shows values between 40-50

@AsenM In case of such issues I often check the date of the battery. When everything else won't help I swap batteries (no need to buy one, just borrow him yours)

@AsenM 40-50? for all injectors??
that doesn't sound right at all - top of my head I'd be expecting 170+
(and you're right the numbers are in Ohms.. kOhms to be pedantic but that's neither here nor there)

1:57 PM
the guy who measured them measured them with some cable extension because he couldn't reach the pins of injectors we will have to double check the numbers but yeah might be because of it? but shouldn't ohms lower once the car warms up?
?

@AsenM other way round actually.. I forget the physics behind it but the resistance on these increases as they warm up - which is why when one of them is failing the symptoms are generally more pronounced when it's cold.

hey fellas, anyone here have strong opinons on a "fixed tdi" went and looked at one and the prices are amazing
just curios about reliability
