12:19 PM
today is a sad and strange day

@Ceshion How come?

@Ceshion yeah, we're getting a lot of those.

12:37 PM
Jas is gone and now I have $6000 and a big blue box instead
It'll be a lot more exciting on Monday when I pick up the ZX14 but right now I'm just kind of deflated about it
I mean to be fair the box is pretty snazzy: makes cool noises sometimes, lights work great, bigger on the inside so plenty of room

@Ceshion Bow ties ARE cool!

@Ceshion ah yes, always sad to do...

12:55 PM
basically it's: left brain says it was the right choice and that it makes practical and financial sense, right brain says "but I liked going fast"

@Ceshion oh boy, I've been in that spot before. I've had the internal discussion of "look, crazy speed brain, I promise you that I'll make it up to you. What we get then will be so much better and wonderful that you'll scoff at losing this thing."
And when I got the WRX, I was all "See crazy speed voice? I told you I'd make it up to you!"

it's exactly that conversation haha

I'm in a similar position myself. Land Rover is fun, but so impractical :(
Only had it a month and already realised it was a silly idea
and it's not even fast!

This is why the WRX was a stroke of genius. Fun AND practical! This weekend I filled it with firewood just to demonstrate that pickup trucks are silly. :-)

I would have probably gotten something like a WRX if I wasn't getting the Ninja, the thought crossed my mind at least
but I figure this way I have one that's safe, cheap to insure and maintain, hard to get into trouble with, with lots of space
and then one that does a 9.8s quarter mile and with which the main option for not getting into trouble is go faster
because you're only in trouble if you get caught, right?

1:04 PM
Funnily enough, the recent WRX has no real pull for me. It's too bad because when I pass this car on to my son, I'll likely wander away from Subaru. They don't make anything I want anymore.

4 hours later…
5:14 PM
oml
The guy who bought the sky just texted me
he burned out the clutch on the way home
I mean I was on the test drive with him while he was holding it up an incline using only the clutch so I'm not horribly surprised but I am disappointed

@Ceshion - Once it's gone, it's gone. You cannot look back or you'll have heartache for days. Just gotta let it roll. It's only a car.

that is true, I mean I'm not overly torn up about it, more like-- I told him the clutch would burn if he slipped it as much as he was
and he just didn't listen

Sigh. Dudebros are dumb.

Well, burning up the clutch is what he gets for not listening to someone giving him good advice. IOW: (he's stupid)
Hopefully he doesn't try to say, "Oh, the clutch was bad in the first place!"

In the days before daytime running lights, I felt like a genius using the handbrake to hold my car on a hill. What do you mean it's hard to get going in a standard car? Use both feet and both hands, what's the problem? :-)
Now, if I do that, my headlights are blinking at the other drivers. Argh!

5:27 PM
what's /really/ frustrating is the cars with a button for an e-brake instead of a lever or pedal
especially the kind that shut off when you press the button

Yeah, that's less good.

@Ceshion - Isn't that what they are supposed to do? ;-)

haha, I guess so
but it means no EZ-drifting during the winter

@Ceshion you just aren't trying hard enough. AWD + more power = drift joy!

5:29 PM
haha

@BobCross - Nothing like a four wheel rooster tail :o)

I didn't realize the CRV has 4WD until I saw it, that was definitely a plus
although this guy was a "Hondas don't need anything, it hardly ever needs any work done"
IOW: it needs a lot of work done that's been neglected

Yeah, ick

all 4 struts and/or front strut cap realignment (TSB 05-022, it's been out almost as long as the car has been) to fix the egregious torque steer, new serpentine belt, the FR-right edge and FL-right edge of the tires are rounded off because of aforementioned suspension misalignment- but the oil looks like it's been kept up on by the look of the valvetrain through the oil filler, and it's not leaking anything but a little bit of exhaust
I mean it still needs to be fixed but at least it's pipes and not oil seals

5:51 PM
mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/53727/… speaking of burning out clutches
A. 3rd party remap that adds nearly 50% extra power... I'd be expecting pretty much anything wearable in the drivetrain to need replacement soon, and some of the non-wearables too
and B. is there any car where the clutch isn't the weakest point in the drivetrain?

That's almost on purpose. Replacing clutch is a pain but replacing broken metal is usually more bad.

that's kinda what I was thinking

I'm also a little judgy - I got 180K miles out of my last clutch :-)
Technically, the clutch is still fine. The transmission itself started failing at the seams.
I used up all of its rotations.

6:32 PM
@Ceshion So long, Sky. :| I passed the yard that has the maroon redline in it again yesterday - been sitting there for years. But, it looks like they keep washing it. Weird.

6:47 PM
Washing cars isn't weird! It can be fun! ;-)

@BobCross Trust me - you don't want to see me in a bikini.
They even mow the grass around the car. But, it hasn't moved in a very long time. Tempted to go over and see if they'd sell it.
but the wife would kick my butt.

@NitrusInc - Why did you kill this answer? mechanics.stackexchange.com/a/53700/4152 ... it looks reasonable considering the symptoms. You obviously did a lot of work on the answer.

7:04 PM
@Ceshion I dunno - I dynoed my car at 310 whp, came from the factory with 180 at the crank.
... and I just remembered that I put a Spec clutch and AL flywheel on after engine #2.
So, yeah.

7:19 PM
@DavidLively - I know that feeling. I have three derelict cars at the house right now. Two of them I'm working on. One of them has been in the garage for over a year ... great fun.

OMG. The historical society who runs my house would beat me with a frying pan.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Gotta have a hobby.
@BobCross So get a classic car. :) I'm thinking '62 Vette. I've been drooling over that one for years. By the time the kids are out of the house, a real one would be almost 80 years old. :(
Maybe I can CNC some fiberglass molds for the body and find a C5 roller to stuff it on.

I have a classic: a 2004 Subaru WRX. It's nearly as old as my second son.

That's depressing.

What, that I have two sons?

7:22 PM
No. That 2004 was so long ago.
I mean, it wasn't the greatest of years, but still.

Pish - my memory goes back a lot farther than that!

I have shoes older than most of my students.
And it's grad school.

I recently tried on some shoes I wore back in high school dress up occasions. They're back in style!

My eye doctor recently pointed out that I'm middle-aged and need bifocals. Which would explain why I have to take my glasses off to solder anything. It might also explain the two missing hub bolts on the SOS a few months ago.

7:38 PM
After being quite near-sighted all my life, I'm finally to the point where it's easier to take my contacts out when untangling a necklace or combing the coat of a flea (i.e., I'm still quite near-sighted ;-).

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 take the good parts from each and build a rat rod.
@BobCross LOL.

@DavidLively - Nah, but not a bad idea. Two of the cars are Japanese ... I don't see them becoming "rat rods" anytime soon ;-)

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Have you ever seen a Civic "drag racer?" Kind of like a rat rod wannabe.
My favorite is when they put slicks on the back.
Drag racing is bad enough. But THAT is hilarious.

@DavidLively - And skinnies up front??

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Yep.
In cars with a completely stripped interior, no AC, etc.

7:40 PM
Oh ... Em ... Goodness ... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Somebody probably forgot to tell them that a) its FWD and b) there's a switch that shuts off the AC when you floor it.
Then again, if you're trying to get 20s ETs, every bit of parasitic drag counts, I guess.
It's Texas. If you get stuck in traffic without A/C, you might die.
Time to retrieve the rug rats. Y'all have a good one.

8:42 PM
Hello All.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I noticed, after the fact, that the Question said the Ignition Module was replaced.

1 hour later…
9:51 PM
@NitrusInc - Still, it doesn't mean whatever they did fixed the initial problem. There are such things as bad parts. It was a really good write up.

10:07 PM
And the answer can be undeleted if you change your mind

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Thank you. =]
@BobCross I ended up realizing that part of it could still be relevant, s o I undleted it and mentioned why in a comment to the OP.

Good plan

dem rimz tho

Saw this today, was tempted to make a bogus question here about "missing steam on my ride.."

10:22 PM
Still more reliable than FCA products.
Thank you... Thank you... I'll be here all week.

Had to google "FCA"
Sorry, today was an intense day. Took a day off, made a tour through several dealerships. I need a new car

No worries lol.
Sounds like you need a beer
So.... What car(s) are on your short-list?

I think ones with four tires.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Oh, hi!

What... You mean no G63 6X6?

10:29 PM
Yah, those three wheeled steam powered ones are definitely out, I'd suggest.

@NitrusInc A VW Caddy, long wheel base or a Seat Alhambra

Seat to be neat.

If I find an good offer, perhaps a VW Multivan or something similar..

Nice

Basically I need a nice minivan and I don't see the forest for all the trees.

10:35 PM
Honda?

@NitrusInc What model?

Not sure if they offer their minivan in your region. It's called the Odesyee in america
If I could spell
Things kind of insane. It's got like on-board vaccum, 3 row climate control etc etc

Unfortunately, it isn't available here

Gotcha.
Subaru just released a 7-Seater for USDM
Ascent.
I'm assuming it's not available there?
This game isn't as fun to play when you only know your home market. Lol.

Nope, no Ascent..
Wife insists on sliding doors as parking space is often cramped.

10:41 PM
The Peugeot 1007 was a Mini MPV produced by the French automobile manufacturer Peugeot from 2005 to 2009. It was based on the same platform as the Peugeot 206 and Citroën C3. == Design == The 1007's unique design featured four pillars, and two power sliding doors (similar to the Toyota Porte), rather than conventional hinged doors for easier access in cramped spaces and on hills. The car also featured user swappable Cameleo interior trim pieces. == Background == Another innovation (now discontinued) is the optional "2-Tronic" semi-automatic transmission, also used (under the name "Sensodrive"...
Oh my. I didn't realize it was going to Auto-Sumarize like that. Sorry.
Super-mini with sliding doors. It's it's own punchline
I hear you on the sliding doors, though. It makes sense.

@NitrusInc That's a mini, yes :)

11:14 PM
Alright. I'm off. Good night folks!
