@SteveRacer thanks for the advice! I've been doing it that way whenever I go out for harder drives for the past few days and it seems to work just fine, definitely still interested in a harness though-- wonder if I can set it up in some sort of way that it's not visible when not in use

2:04 PM
I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the site finally met the criteria for the Generalist badge. It was awarded to 19 people yesterday. That's pretty kewl!

2:37 PM
@Ceshion @BobCross that Sky hardtop is from Norm's Fiberglass. The Sky never came as a coupe from the factory, only the Solstice. The aftermarket tops are distinguishable because the top, back corner me of the windows are curved. The factory coupe windows are square.
@Ceshion wrt harness: it's typically not recommended to put one in a convertible without a real roll bar or cage. If the car flips, your body has fewer places to go. My 350Z had pads on the tunnel and door that you could brace your knees against. Worked pretty well. But, a good street / race adjustable seat - Sparco is my favorite but kind of pricey - will do wonders.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I wondered why we suddenly all got it at once - what was the criteria?

@NickC - There's two criteria. One is for the individual (which is in the badges documentation). The other one is for the site. IIRC, there has to be 40 tags which are over 200 questions (or some such). It's fairly usual for the individual to meet the criteria, but then the site needs to meet its criteria, which when it does, dumps a whole bunch of badges at once.
Hopefully that makes sense.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Yeah, I knew about the individual criteria, it was the site criteria I didn't know
that makes sense

2:53 PM
I'm not quite sure if my numbers for the site criteria are correct, but it's pretty close to that if not.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Well, we have exactly 40 tags with over 200 questions, so I reckon that's probably right...

I'm getting old ... I try not trusting my memory tooooo much.
IIRC, we've been pretty close to it now for a while.

say what now
heads up display

I’m not a bikist so this sort of a helmet is a mystery to me.

@Ceshion - Really pretty kewl.

3:04 PM
/only/ $1400 minimum

Yah, but after it actually comes into fruition and is used, the price will go down.
I think they should name the first actual helmet Jarvis
;-)

yeah, I think I'd wait until then

Anyway, I'm off to the races. Gotta fill up the car and a couple of other things.

I've actually thought about trying to write an all-inclusive smart assistant and name it Jarvis
have fun!
(just for personal use, of course, don't want copyright lawyers at my door)

3:09 PM
oh my god Hannah will love that thank you

(they're really into Star Trek)
okay bye good luck with your day
haha

@NickC, and idea if that BMW engine is an interference engine?
Or have we really gotten to the point where all modern engines are interference?
(interference meaning that the cylinders and valves occupy the same space at different times)

@DavidLively I had heard that too, I'm still thinking about what to do, whether it's a four-point or just waiting until I have the hard top

@JPhi1618 No idea, I suspect so though, most are now
TBH I know nothing about them, that answer was based on google-fu
@Ceshion I've heard the "don't fit harnesses unless you've got a cage" argument before too - it makes sense. If you roll in inertia belts, you can fall sideways into the centre of the car if the roof caves in. With straps over both shoulders, you can't...
and that can apply just as much in a tin-top as a convertible
possibly more so in fact - in a convertible, the A pillars are usually reinforced

4:41 PM
@JPhi1618 - @NickC - I'm not sure either, but my rule of thumb these days is, it's an interference motor until proven otherwise. Better to be safe than sorry.

I just got called a "troll" by a user with a rep of 6 because I said his question needed to be more clear...
Oh well.

5:03 PM
@JPhi1618 - Heh ... join the club ... well, maybe I haven't been called a troll, but I've been called worse, lol.

Ugh... Over on bicycles.SE. Random guy is selling a 15yo bike helmet for $10. It looks lightly used except for the cracking and bending! Sounds like a steal!

Q: Should I buy this (gently) used helmet?

tomMy neighbor is moving cross country and selling all his bike stuff. His helmet's a white Bell, about 15 years old. It's a bit scuffed but generally in pretty good condition. The only thing that worries me is some of the styrofoam is cracking off, but it shouldn't be hard to glue or remove and stu...

Dude, a new helmet is like $15.
This is not an expensive item.

Things that never get old: “Wow! Do you keep this car in a bubble? It looks great!” 😁

@BobCross, I commend you. That's no easy feat when life gets more and more demanding.
In my 20's my car always looked great. Now... Well, not so much.
Where did this fry come from?! We haven't had McDonalds since... like last year!

10:33 PM
Thanks - it doesn't feel like I do anything special. Wash the car on the weekends when you have a chance. Wax the car every now and then. Don't leave bird crap, etc. on the car.
I live where there's salt year round so washing isn't optional.

@BobCross - It must really suck to live on an Island. ;-)

11:03 PM
Technically, I travel between multiple islands per day

11:21 PM
@BobCross - But you only live on one, I'd imagine ... unless ... you live that kinda life ... ;-)
