@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 can you tell if the impellers are corroded on the old water pump?

@Zaid - The impellers looked fine.

Any reason to change it then?

@Zaid - It is normal procedure when changing the belt to change the pump on belt driven water pumps. You're already in there, so should go ahead and do it.

@Zaid I'd agree with @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 - the cost of the pump itself is usually small compared with the labor cost of changing it and the risk of damage if it fails. Which is why on many cars it's practically standard procedure to change it when doing the belts.

Hmm

@Zaid - The timing belt (with tensioner) would have been $46. With the water pump it was $70. Cheap insurance.
I'm off to workout ... be back on later.

Why wo...

I love this question. It's the realization that you've been doing something wrong for a long time.
"I mean, I have to add a half-gallon of coolant like every two weeks! It's getting flushed naturally!"

@JPhi1618 - Not only that you've been doing something wrong, but that there is probably something seriously wrong with your vehicle.
